I loved Alex and Becca's story. Watching her come into her own and seeing her interact not only with Alex but with Jack and Gage (I cannot wait until they get their own books!) was so much fun. Seeing what was going on with Alex as the book progressed was more than a little scary, but once he finally decided to do something about it that made it all the more satisfying. Everything isn't "fixed" by the end of the story (there's that word!) but things are moving in the right direction and there's definite hope. I'm looking forward to seeing what Alex, Becca, Jack, Gage, and Monica will be doing with the Ranch! Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

A wounded SEAL, Alex, and his comrades team up with his step-sister, Becca, on a property they inherited from Alex’s father. They are opening a short of camp/sanctuary for veterans. Truly a collaboration of so many plot plans we seen before: we’ve got the step-sibs, the wounded military men, the returning hometown heroes, and cowboys all mixed up with a woman striving for independence after suffering from a life threatening illness and being sheltered her entire life…and it completely works! Lots of strong emotions scars bring some heavy reading but Helm’s ability to add fun and flare to some difficult life situations makes for a marvelously entertaining and heartfelt reading. I received this ARC copy of Cowboy SEAL Homecoming from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca. This is my honest and voluntary review.

One ranch. Two people. One goal. Cowboy Seal Homecoming has WINNER written all over it. An act of bravery brings a group of seals full circle and with a little help from a friend inspires a common goal. Ms. Helm teaches a valuable lesson about what courage really means. Bravery does not mean lack of fear, but the strength to take a risk. In fact courage is a lot like faith. Alex and Becca have a history that borders on taboo. Despite the time, distance and heartache that may be headed their way, they bring out the best in each other. She sees the man he really is and he sees the woman she hopes to be.

A heartbreaking emotional story between stepsiblings that never truly were stepsibling. After leaving navy Alex is going home after all those years. He has to share his fathers legacy with his stepsister Becca who he never really met and doesn't know a thing about her but they have the same dream to built a center for veterans. Becca was protected her whole life and is not good with people but she is prepared to change that and 3 ex-SEALs are a perfect opportunity but if only Alex wasn't so hot and making her feel all of those things that she never felt before. Both Alex and Becca are great characters well develop, my heart was breaking for Alex but in the end, it all turned out fine not perfect but ok. I really hope there will be others book and story from Jack and Gabe. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

This is a new to me author. I wasn't sure what to expect and was really hopeful going into it that this book would live up to the blurb for it. The premise for any soldier coming home book always gets to me and this one was no different. This one is about Alex Maguire and Becca Denton. Alex was a Navy Seal until he was retired due to injuries. Becca was his step-sister although his father married her mother after he had already joined the service and they only saw each other a couple of times. Alex is coming home, along with 2 of his fellow teammates who were also injured at the same time. Alex and Becca both each inherited a half of the ranch his father owned and now they have decided to partner up and create a place for soldiers who have no idea how to become civilians to come and work. All while not wanting to admit that he, himself, may need help in order to get past what happened to injure him in the first place. Becca also has her own little issues from not only having been sick as a child but her entirely over protective mother. He thinks that no matter how attracted to her he is, he needs to stay away from her and keep his control with every aspect of his life. Never realizing that Becca may be the exact thing he needs in order to truly heal and move on in his life. I really enjoyed this book. There were a few moments that were slightly slow to me, that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Alex and Becca are very sweet together. Becca is just trying to become more outgoing and to actually have real relationships and just to live her live to the fullest without her mother there telling her she shouldn't do this or that. Alex is trying his hardest to control every little minute of every single day and thinks that will make everything in his life fine. They couldn't help but fall for each other and even when they have major issues, Becca is still the strong woman you know she can be and stands up and tells him what he needs to do to be better. Complete with the help of his friends, who have their own issues to overcome! This book really hits home how much our veterans have to overcome when they come home not only physically but mentally. That they truly need our love and support and the strength not to let them push people away in their fear and/or grief. This author did a great job writing about this and I really can't wait to read about their friends stories!

Honestly, I loved it! This was my first book from this author and what an intro. This book had all of the components you could want in a really good love story. This was such an emotionally heartbreaking and emotionally satisfying story at the same time. My heart broke, my heart soared, my heart felt everything these characters were feeling; which to me is the sign of a really good writer. Alex and his buddies, Jake and Gabe, have all been through hell and back. Becca has her own demons to fight. I like that the author does not sugar coat the effects that PTSD has on veterans and their loved ones. All of these characters are very relatable and likable. Alex and Becca truly belong together and I enjoyed watching things progress between them. Great start to a new series. I will definitely be reading more.

When the job he has put years of life into suddenly turns it's back on him and his two buddies, Alex is left a little dumbfounded, and completely lost, he goes from having a job that he loves to nothing, and it's heartbreaking to say the least. So he does the only thing he can think of, and decides to go home, and face the place that he never thought he would return to, in hopes of finding some stability and answers. The whole experience is a little overwhelming for him, for so long he has been a soldier, he hasn't got the slightest idea how to be a civilian, how to find his place in the world again... but he is determined to try. Once he arrives back at the family ranch, he gets a little surprise when he finds that he now shares ownership of it with Becca, a daughter of one of his father's wives, and he isn't quite sure how to handle her either. But little by little him and Becca begin to find common ground, both have pasts that need dealt with and both of them think the ranch could be best used to help others in similar situations. They want to make it a place for soldiers to come to and relearn how to be a member of society, to help them find their place in the world again, while also helping them deal with all of their lingering demons. It all sounds good on paper, now the real work comes when trying to make it a reality... In Cowboy SEAL Homecoming you will meet some really amazing characters with hearts of gold, and be treated to one heck of a heartwarming story line.... I loved this one!! This touching read will reach into the recesses of your heart and leave it permanently touch, and give you a glimpse into the lives of people who are fighting hard to find their way back to a normal healthy life. I have to say it was an eye-opening read, sometimes you take the simplest things for granted and witnessing all that these soldiers had to endure returning home made me a little more appreciative of all that we have, because of their bravery. I am excited to see what Ms. Helms has in store for these amazing characters next, and I cannot wait to get a up close and personal view of Gabe and Jack! Highly recommend this one, but be sure to have your tissues ready, cause it bound to give you the feels and have you shedding a few tears!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

This is an excellent book and the start to what should be a great new series. Navy SEAL's turned cowboy - oh heck yeah! The writing is great and I just fell in love with these characters. Looking forward to reading more in the series. Becca Denton has no idea what she's gotten herself in to when she agrees to help Alex Maguire and his two SEAL buddies turn the ranch into a a place where veterans can come to heal and ease back into civilian life. Alex may be gorgeous but he's also a bossy control freak who just needs to lighten up a bit. He may have been a leader in his SEAL days but that won't fly here on the ranch. Will these two find a way to work and maybe play together?? Definitely a recommended read.

Book Info Mass Market Paperback, 352 pages Expected publication: January 2nd 2018 by Sourcebooks Casablanca Original Title Cowboy SEAL Homecoming ISBN 1492621307 (ISBN13: 9781492621300) Edition Language English Series Navy SEAL Cowboys #1 Other Editions (1) Source:Netgalley EARC Buy book from Amazon B&N BOOK BLURB Three former Navy SEALs Injured in the line of duty Desperate for a new beginning... Searching for a place to call their own. Alex Maguire never thought he'd go home again. The perfect soldier, the perfect leader, he's spent his whole life running away from Blue Valley, Montana―but when a tragic accident bounces him and two of his men out of the SEALs, there's nowhere left to turn but the ranch he used to call his own...and the confusing, innocently beguiling woman who now lives there. Becca Denton's like nothing he could have imagined. She's far too tempting for her own good, but when she offers to help turn the ranch into a haven for injured veterans, he can't exactly say no. He'll just need to keep his distance. But something in her big green eyes makes Alex want to set aside the mantle of the perfect soldier and discover the man he could have and whole within the shelter of her arms. The Prodigal SEAL has come home. My Thoughts For former Navy Seal Alex Maguire and his friends, also forcibly retired due to their injuries from further service with the Navy Seals, Gabe and Jack the small town of Blue Valley Montana and Alex’s former childhood home is a chance to regain their equilibrium in returning to civilian life as well as a place to physically heal completely. Of course none of these men are prepared for the force that Becca Denton becomes in their lives. For Alex she represents a chance to have love and some day create a family of his own. For Gabe and Jack she becomes a little sister figure and someone who maybe can convince them that mental healing is just as important for these three men as their physically well being. Becca herself gets a chance to not only spread her wings for the first time but she finds an inner strength she never expected and the man of her dreams she never thought would become a reality. For me this was one of those intense contemporary romance reads that actually felt too realistic because of the heavier content focusing on the mental issues not only Alex, Gabe and Jack had but those that Becca had to work through as well. While that was so still have to admit it was a genuine pleasure to enjoy not only the development of Alex and Becca's relationship but the ones she forged with Gabe and Jack. The burgeoning friendship that was forming with Monica and her son Colin also pulled me in as well. Between the serious and the silly there is a good balance which will appeal to many romance readers and the fact that this book very obviously is leading to the next story to come was not a cliffhanger but rather an ending that builds anticipation, at least for me it did. This is the first book of Ms Helm’s new series titled, Navy SEAL Cowboys. It’s about three Navy SEALs who have been wounded after a mission that affected them not only physically, but also psychologically and emotionally .Their leader Alex Maguire, has brought then to the ranch he grew up in and where now he is half owner. The other half of the ranch belongs to his step-sister, Becca Denton. She is shy, inexperienced in life, and uncertain about them. But now they all end up living and working together with the goal of converting the ranch into a place where wounded veterans find a purpose and feel safe. Though the theme has been repeated frequently , I still appreciate the fact that the author reminds us that the returning troops need to be supported. We, as a society, need to help these brave men and women with their physical and emotional wounds. As well as helping them integrate back to civil life. I also see potential stories for Jack and Gabe. All that said, I found the first fourth of the book moving slowly and later it was a bumpy road. Becca was an ok character. The romance with Alex was kind of flat. I will come back to this series for the guys, and hoping that the partners for the others are stronger and more complex. I was gifted this copy by Netgalley. PTSD This book is obviously setting the scene for a series. Three ex-servicemen, supposedly ‘fixed’ but rather dysfunctional and struggling with PTSD and a young isolated woman set about building a place where ex-military can come to continue their recovery and find purpose again. Becca and Alex are step siblings but hardly know each other until they are left half shares of the family ranch. Becca had dreamed of helping children with terminal illness through therapeutic horsemanship but changed her dream to instead help wounded veterans. Alex plans to give soldiers purpose and healing through hard work on a ranch. The idea is the two programs will run in tandem but we don’t get as far as seeing things up and running. Neither the horses, ranching, refurbishing the bunkhouse and growing closer to Becca are helping Alex to cope with life since his accident and it is obvious to everyone except him, that he needs help. Like all military he tends to suppress feelings and emotions and the thought of therapy is anathema to him (as it is to his friends) but eventually that is where he has to go to find the tools to cope. A good book with a lot of strong language and some interesting characters. I would be happy to read the next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
