About the Author

Kait Ballenger hated reading when she was a child, because she was horrible at it. Then by chance she picked up the Harry Potter series, magically fell in love with reading, and never looked back. When she realized shortly after that she could tell her own stories, and they could be about falling in love, her fate was sealed. She earned her B.A in English from Stetson University-like the Stetson cowboy hat-followed by an M.F.A in Writing from Spalding University. After stints working as a real vampire aka a phlebotomist, a bingo caller, a professional bellydancer, and an adjunct English professor, Kait finally decided that her eight-year-old self knew best: she's meant to be a romance writer. When Kait's not preoccupied with writing captivating paranormal romance, page-turning suspense or love scenes that make even seasoned romance readers blush, she can usually be found spending time with her family, being an accidental crazy cat lady (she has 4 now-don't ask), or with her nose buried in a good book. She loves to travel, especially abroad, and experience new places. She lives in Florida with her doting librarian husband, her adorable young son, a loveable mangy mutt of a dog, and the four conniving felines.

dnf at 71% You're probably wondering why I let myself get to 71% and then stopped, I think the start of it was how basic the beginning of the storyline was for a shifter romance. The farther I gotten in the book, it wasn't standing out for me. I didn't really care for the characters either, unfortunately. This might be a case of "its me, but it may not be the same for you."

An exciting cowboy paranormal shifter romance! Cowboy Wolf Trouble by Kait Ballenger is an exciting cowboy paranormal shifter romance and the opening salvo in Kait’s new Seven Range Shifters’ series. The series is set to revolve around the seven shifter clans that call the Montana Mountains their home. I have to say that I’d have been drawn to this book regardless once I saw the awesome abs featured on the cover. Oh my! I’ve been a fan of Kait’s since I first discovered her in After Dark, a release she shared with Gena Showalter. Her contribution to the anthology was Shadow Hunter which introduced her Execution Underground series – a fabulous series that I can’t wait to read more of! Therefore, you can imagine my excitement when I realized that this new series actually has ties to her Execution Underground series! That said, no worries if you’ve never read her Execution Underground series. It’s not necessary to be familiar with that series to fully enjoy Cowboy Wolf Trouble. This is the story of wolf shifter Wes Calhoun and human, part Native American rancher/biologist Naomi Evans. Their story is related in the third person. When Naomi finds a wolf ensnared in a trap on her ranch, she reluctantly knew she was going to have to deal with it. She couldn’t let the wolf suffer nor could she afford to lose any more livestock. As she loads the barrel of her rifle, the wolf unbelievably shifts into a naked man. Naomi’s world tilts. “That’s not humanly possible,” she breathed. He smirked as if she amused him. “Good thing I’m not human.” Wes had just done the one thing he’s forbidden to do – shift in front of a human. But, if he had not, he’d be dead. Now, his pack will probably do the deed and Naomi’s life is in danger too as humans cannot know about shifters. He vows to protect her. But, is this a vow he can keep? I was drawn into this tale from the very beginning. Naomi and Wes are both easy to connect to. They have an explosive, steamy chemistry from the get-go. They both face discrimination and problems with acceptance by their peers. Naomi struggles to save her ranch. Naomi is an anomaly in the world of Montana cattle ranchers where women ranchers are still rare. Wes fights to save his very soul. He’s a former packmaster, but he gave that life up to join an opposition pack. He’s yet to find his place there as he struggles with authority and his own self-worth as his new pack wrestles with trusting him. Their story held my rapt attention throughout. Cowboy Wolf Trouble is an engrossing read that made me feel that I was in the story with the characters. I chuckled at Wes’ and Naomi’s banter, swooned with their steamy chemistry and was on the edge of my seat as trouble loomed from all directions. The freakish half-vampires gave me the chills. Expect plenty of fast-paced action, betrayals, deception, danger, surprising twists and humor. Kait’s word-building is first-rate and the story flows well. I can’t wait to see where Kait takes this series next in Cowboy in Wolf’s Clothing, set to be released in mid-2019.

Review: I thought the Author did a great job of creating a new twist on shifters and their life, dynamics and mythos. The story took off with action from page one and did not stop until the end. it was a very action packed book, but was also sexy and emotional. I was not sure what to make of Wes at first, but came to love him and I think Naomi is a perfect partner for him. A lot of the side characters really grabbed my attention too and cannot wait to see whose book comes next. It is hard building a new world and getting the readers invested in the characters and plot, but I think she did a good job of this. This is the first book in the series, so I think the books can only get better from here on out. I will be waiting to see what comes next in this series. 4Stars *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*

As paranormal romance where the mountain ranges of Montana are inhabited by shifters, more specific seven groups, “Cowboy Wolf Trouble” tells the story of a wolf shifter, Wes, that is haunted by his past and sees himself in another difficult situation. Formerly the packmaster of the Wild Eight pack, is now a member of the Grey Wolves pack and thanks to his trouble personality he tries to find out what the Wild Eight pack are plotting even if it risks his life and position as a member of the Grey Wolves. Through the story Wes meets a woman called Naomi and feels an instant attraction. Together they face the emerging problems. Wes is character with a dark past and when he meets Naomi he tries to make up for the evil he did and become a better man. Along the story his past actions are expose and we see a man who is convince he’s a monster but seeks to do good. Naomi is a strong female character with a strong conviction. As Wes, she feels an attraction even knowing he’s dangerous and has also some past concerns haunting her. Through bad events they get to meet, and they can’t separate, their chemistry is excellent. Despite their unique personality and many quarrels in the middle of their journey they were able to work together and succeeded. There are good characters that surround the main ones like Maverick and Colt that I think contributes to the Wes’ features, they are fair wolves who follow the rules, the opposite of Wes. Never read Kait Ballenger books but I’m a new fan. I liked this world of supernatural, the rival pack that is dangerous and vicious that tries to be the new ruler. The fact that exist other shifters and not only werewolves is interesting, usually these types of story has only werewolves, vampires and witches. It’s also interesting the existence of Execution Underground, an organization form by humans that hunt these supernatural beings. And seeing all the groups interact brings more excitement to the story. Can’t wait for the next book!

THIS WAS ALMOST A 5*! Great shifter romance with a hero that needs some TLC. Wes Calhoun reformed bad wolf only wants to protect Naomi Evans. Attraction of these two is forbidden so this is the force that drives the pages to a HEA. Some amazing secondary wolf characters! Should be a great series to add to MUST BE READ SHELF. "A copy of this book was supplied by SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." DON'T MISS Naomi's struggle to save her ranch and Wes' fight to save his Soul!

3.5 Stars Cowboy Wolf Trouble was a good start to a new series that looks to have lots of opportunities for some great stories. I love the world that Kait Ballenger has created as the backdrop to this series. The various shifter packs, the vampire element, and the cross-over to her Execution Underground series laid the groundwork for an intriguing read. I was surprised that it took a bit for me to get into this read, but once I was immersed in Wes and Naomi’s story this one was hard to put down. Wes was a darker character - his past has come back to haunt him and he sees no way for any type of redemption for himself. He’s drawn to Naomi but can’t let himself think he would be worthy of any type of happiness since he is convinced he only brings death and despair to those he gets close to. Naomi was an interesting heroine. She’s a female rancher, which is something you don’t often see. I do wish that her Native American heritage was brought into play a bit more, but perhaps we’ll see a bit more of that in future stories. These two together could definitely bring the heat, but what I enjoyed most about them was their banter and the playfulness that Naomi seemed to bring out in Wes. There was a lot going on in this book, which is typical of many first in series books that have to set the stage for the world they are creating. There were many interesting characters introduced and at times it was a lot to keep track of, but overall all the parts have laid a nice foundation for the series. Cowboy Wolf Trouble was a nice start to a new series that has me looking forward to the next book! I received an advance reader copy from the publisher via NetGalley which I voluntarily reviewed.

Wes Calhoun is a shifter that’s a bad boy trying to turn good. He used to be the alpha of a renegade pack but is now an unwanted member of the Grey Wolves. While trying to find out what his former pack is up to, he gets caught by human rancher Naomi Evans. In order to save her and not repeat history, he introduces her to the supernatural world, even if it is breaking the rules. I really enjoyed this story. I thought the author did an excellent job with Wes’s character. He was so torn and determined that he was a monster. Only Naomi sees what he truly is, honorable and committed to a fault. The way it was written, I thought maybe there had been a previous book showing Wes leading the rogue group, but none that I found. I am glad I found this author and look forward to reading more of her stories. I highly recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

This is book 1 in the Seven Range Shifters series. It's about Wes Calhoun, a bad boy shifter who is trying to turn his life around and Naomi Evans, a human rancher that has neighboring property to the pack Wes is a part of. Wes used to be the leader of a renegade pack but gave up his leadership in order to bring peace and make a change in his life. He is trying to move away from the violence that has always been a part of his life and has sworn his loyalty to the Grey Wolves. Naomi is trying to save the ranch that she inherited from her father. But in trying to save her ranch, a run in with Wes shows her a whole different world that she never knew or even imagined was real. But now she is in the middle of the problems that are coming for Wes. This story is definitely a different take in some aspects of shifters and the lives they lead. However I had a hard time getting into it. The story itself really isn't bad, I just couldn't find the connection to the main characters. I'm not sure what didn't resonate with me though. The writing was decent, and the story will keep you involved. I just had a hard time with it. That's not to say that some people won't love it but it wasn't for me, which surprised me since I am definitely a PNR junkie. Maybe the next in the series will suck me in more. I definitely do plan to read the next to find out!

This exciting new series is off to a great start with a story that is full of thrills and an emotionally gripping romance. Wes and Naomi are strong, captivating characters that pull readers into their story and refuse to let go. The romance is a roller coaster ride of turbulent emotions, magnetic attraction, scorching passion and a forbidden relationship which keeps the happily ever after of this story in question until the very end, especially since the hero is in serious need of care and affection but has tons of issues that have to be overcome. The bad boy turned good aspect of the story also adds tension and drama ensuring that the readers can’t get enough. The plot is fast paced and full of thrilling suspense, adrenaline pumping danger and excitement which keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Mistaken identity, the no humans allowed factor and a group of malicious minded shifters keep the tension and expectations high throughout which makes this a hard to put down story. Readers may find it hard to get into the story at the beginning which is quite unexpected but they don’t regret sticking it with it as the story and the characters insists they continue. The author has created an intriguing world with some sexy, gritty cowboy shifters that captures readers imaginations and she portrays those characters and the setting in such a way that readers want to explore it from every angle. The series is connected to her Execution Underground series, but it can be read without having read it, however the EU does play a part in this story and readers may want to understand the workings of the EU better.

COWBOY WOLF TROUBLE is the first instalment in Kait Ballenger’s contemporary, adult SEVEN RANGE SHIFTERS erotic, romance series, a spin-off from the author’s EXECUTION UNDERGROUND series. This is wolf shifter and rancher Wes Calhoun, and human rancher / biologist Naomi Evans’ story line. You do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the current release. Told from dual third person perspectives (Naomi and Wes) COWBOY WOLF TROUBLE follows the building but forbidden relationship between wolf shifter and rancher Wes Calhoun, and human rancher Naomi Evans. Naomi Evans is at war with an unknown force when she suspects a pack of wolves is laying waste to her flock of sheep. A trap set to catch the thief netted Naomi the surprise of her life when she pointed her gun at a naked male. Once shifted, Wes Calhoun was caught between head and heart when his pack leader decided Naomi knew too much to remain alive. What ensues is the building but forbidden romance between Naomi and Wes, and the potential fall-out as Wes’s reputation as a killer comes into question when Naomi becomes the unknown entity in a potential, supernatural war. Wes Calhoun knows betrayal and loss. Once the packmaster for the Wild Eight’s, a rogue pack of shifting wolves, Wes sought out solitude, and forfeited his leadership when he swore loyalty to the local Seven Range Pack. Unable to forgive himself for sins of the past, Wes’ history would continue to follow in the wake of threats against the woman he loved. Bad boy to the bone, Wes must battle to prove there is more to Naomi’s story than meets the eye. Naomi Evans’ family owned ranch is struggling to survive but an offer to buy her property becomes fodder for a potential war when Naomi’s appearance in Wes’ life, is questioned by the people in control. Strong-willed, feisty and driven, Naomi is willing to risk her life to save the man with whom she is falling in love. Unfortunately, Wes’ troubled history, continues to mar any semblance of peace and retribution for our leading hero. The relationship between Naomi and Wes is a forbidden romance. The Grey Wolves are forbidden to enter into sexual relationships with humankind, preferring to keep their supernatural species pure and untainted but Wes suspects Naomi is his mate, and struggles to stay one step ahead of the people trying to destroy their growing love. A lack of trust complicated by lies and deceit, and the pull of the man in control force Wes to push Naomi out of his life. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are introduced to a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including packmaster Maverick Grey , medic Austin, High Commander of the Grey Wolf armies Colt Cavanaugh, IT specialist Blaze, and shifter Malcolm. The requisite evil has many faces. The world building follows the potential for war as the Wild Eights target Wes Calhoun and the Grey Wolf pack. The Wild Eights have drawn the proverbial line in the sand, and have merged with a more powerful species in their attempts to takedown their once mighty leader. COWBOY WOLF TROUBLE is a story of secrets and lies; betrayal and deceit; family, forgiveness and love. The premise is engaging, dramatic and startling; the characters are impassioned and strong; the romance is heart breaking and intimate. COWBOY WOLF TROUBLE is a strong start to the Seven Range Shifters series.

"Cowboy Wolf Trouble" was an interesting start to a new paranormal romance series. Shifters (in seven groups) inhabit the mountain ranges of Montana in relative peace. There are many types of shifters in those mountains, all types of predators (bears, wolves, coyotes, etc.). Wes is a wolf, and the wolves exist grouped into several packs. Wes was formerly the alpha/head of the Wild Eight pack, but he is now a member of the Grey Wolves pack, which is a large pack that also runs a huge ranch. As the Wild Eight and Grey Wolves are enemies, it has been a difficult transition for Wes. However, Wes is loyal, even if not obedient, to his new pack. He knows the Wild Eight are up to something, and he is determined to find out what it is and save his new pack- and all the shifters. On top of these conflicts, there is also a human group, the Execution Underground, who are out to kill all the shifters and supernatural creatures (beyond shifters, there are also vampires and witches, etc.). Naomi is none of these. She is a human running her family's small ranch, which has been terrorized by some wild animals, killing their sheep and cattle. She has no idea that anything other than humans lives in the world, much less her backyard. Her brother has set up some animal traps without her knowledge, and it is when she hears one catch an animal that she ventures out to see if she needs to put the animal down. To her shock, the wolf caught shifts into a human man, and Naomi is rapidly pulled into the battles to come. Wes should have killed Naomi when she learned what he was, but he finds himself wanting to protect her instead. As they set off on a quest to learn what is happening at her ranch and what the Wild Eight pack is up to, they are also unable to deny their attraction for each other. With loads of steamy scenes amidst action/adventure type sequences, this was a fast-paced read that is full of plot. There's a lot that happens in this book, and so many new things to learn about this world. While a smaller battle is wrapped up in this book, it is clear the war will wage on in future books of the series (maybe featuring different shifter groups, I suspect). Overall, I enjoyed the book and the new world created. Sometimes I felt a little lost and did not totally understand what was going on, but it's a lot of new things to introduce so it is understandable- I did get the big picture, but especially at the beginning, it could be a little hard to follow and understand the main characters' motivations (particularly why Naomi had to leave her ranch and why Wes was so driven to protect her). The romance was very well done, and I really understood the push-pull relationship between the two and liked how it evolved over time. I would definitely be interested to read more from this series. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Cowboy Wolf Trouble is a tale of love and redemption. Bad-boy wolf shifter and horse wrangler Wes Calhoun has issues to overcome and human rancher Naomi Evans seems like she is going to be the catalyst for that change. Watching these two come together was a wonderfully cinematic western tale of adventure, feuds and love. This is the first in what looks to be a terrific new series.
