In Crouching Tiger: What China’s Militarism Means for the World, Peter Navarro takes the reader through an in-depth analysis of the relationship shared between China and the United States. Although Navarro emphasizes on these two countries, he also explains the influence other countries have on the situation. Using what he calls a “detective story approach”, Navarro explores the questions which could ultimately answer whether or not China is planning on rising peacefully or if something much different is being planned. The book is organized in such a way that even those who are not up-to-date with recent news from China are able to follow along with minimal confusion.

Intriguing, Facts-Telling, and Eye-Opening, Peter Navarro’s newest book: Crouching Tiger: What China's Militarism Means for the World changed my view about Sino-America relationship. The book came out right around China’s biggest military parade ever, and can never be more timely. The writing in this book started simple, and slowly it led the readers into the core, complicated situation the world is facing: Will there be a war between China and the US? And in back of my mind, more importantly, will that lead to 3rd World War that we as human race trying so hard to avoid? The ending of book is not only fascinating, but also realistic. Its interesting style of detective story-telling also put reader at easier position to understand the problems, enabling us to walk through the process together, and keeping us engaged. The concepts and information described in the book are not only for general readers, but also for professionals on foreign policy and/or Sino-America relationship. A must-read.

Professor Navarro puts forth a cogent and thoughtful analysis of China’s history, current capabilities, triggers to war, what war may look like, and how to maintain the peace. He does this through a series of multiple choice questions at the beginning of each chapter as he walks the reader through a ‘detective story’ where really there is only one feasible choice – the choice the author is leading the reader toward. If you have an open mind about the facts and ideas put forth regarding China, then you may learn something from reading this book; however, if you are of the mindset that China is not as imperialistic and manipulative as this book portrays, then you will probably not be moved by the information contained within the book. I did learn much from reading the book and I believe it sheds a bright light on Chinese agenda in South East Asia and the US Pacific Command. However, I would not say this book is completely objective as the author does tend to steer you toward his views without much counterargument corroboration. Another minor complaint is that I wish the book were edited in a way that allowed the sited references to appear more as footnotes at the bottom of the page where they are included so that it is easier to fact check and validate the information put forth. In the end, I would recommend this book to those that interested in this material so that they can make up their own minds on this very important foreign policy issue.

Peter Navarro skillfully integrates China’s history, world events, economics, Asian politics as well as geopolitics to guide the reader into deeply analyze the question: Is war with China is imminent? This question, which has been largely ignored or even denied by our government leaders, is necessary to pose as China continues to strengthen its robust military and demonstrates its dominance in the Asian region, potentially upsetting the delicate balance in the US-China relationship. I thought Navarro did a decent job speculating why China is bolstering its military based on past actions by their aggressors. At times, the book was overly technical with description of the various types of weapons and warfare; however, it probably be appreciated by individuals with interest in that area. The book is a quick read for those who are interested not only in military relations, but also for those who want an overview of China and its growing influence in the world stage.

Crouching Tiger: What China's Militarism Means for the World takes readers on a journey through the history of China and presents reasons behind why America will soon be going to war with the fastest rising Asian superpower. Even though this cannot be fully proven with the evidence that is given, Peter Navarro uses facts and the opinions of well-known scholars in the field to open a reader's mind. This detective story leaves readers thinking about what can potentially happen in the future to China and America's relationship as China's military constantly continues to grow. What makes this book special: Peter Navarro's thought-provoking questions at the beginning of each section helps readers gain some knowledge of the strategic challenges facing America. China's secretive military plans are brought up to the surface and readers are now well aware of how important it is to not ignore what China has been doing behind the scenes. Even though Americans have a bright prospective of what is to come during the next few decades due to the peace offerings that China has to offer, this book informs readers through the answers given at the end of each chapter that China's promises can potentially be far from the truth. As someone who didn't know much about the global affairs between America and China before reading this book, I believe that the research Navarro provided has definitely been informative and eye opening. It is an easy and must read for all!

Peter Navarro’s Crouching Tiger, is a book that really brings up the question of, “Will we go to war against China?” Navarro lays out the questions of the many motives that are causing China to prep for war against the United States. He lays out all the details and facts that are related to each respective question of will China wage war against the United States. Lastly, he leaves it up to you, the reader, to decide if whether you think there is motive enough for China to want to wage war against the United States, given all the facts, details, and history of what has happened to China politically, economically, and morally. Navarro doesn’t just point out the problems that could lead up to an all-out Pacific War between China, the United States, and all the other Island nations in the Pacific, but he poses solutions to how this could be avoided. Navarro proposes that a unified front of the United States and its Pacific allies (i.e. Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, etc.) could prevent any temptation for China to instigate anything. Navarro talks about how China is countering the United States by building up their arsenal to attack their weaknesses, but he mentions a counterattack to China’s counterattack to prepare for an attack and beat them to the punch through military tactics and rendering their technological attacks useless by resorting to “old school” methods. Navarro does a great job of drawing you in to the unseen motives and tactics that China has been using for decades to overtake the United States as the military top dog, but he explains what the United States can do to keep China from advancing onto ally territory and controlling the Pacific before it’s too late.

From the perspective of someone who has little background in the issues presented in Professor Navarro’s new book ‘Crouching Tiger,’ the book is very clear, easy to follow, and informative. Professor Navarro’s analysis of China’s history and how it drives their current actions is thought provoking and it is obvious he has a broad understanding of the subject. The book is packed with information and asks many important questions about China’s current relationship with America and the potential for war. Each chapter builds upon the previous one, further strengthening Navarro’s argument. The issues presented in this book are very important and it is crucial that the public are educated on them. I highly recommend this book to people who are interested in our future international relations with China.

Didn't expect much, but I started reading this book and was immediately captivated by its straight-forward, clear, and concise language. Navarro has a natural skill for breaking down complex issues and turning them into a sum of smaller, simpler parts in without ever being condescending of the reader. His narrative is as engaging as his knowledge on the subject is vast, and the thesis built chapter after chapter grows into a rock-solid case by the end of the book. On the subject itself, the importance of the issue of China could hardly be understated, and one can only hope our elected officials were mandated by law to read this piece. Cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who's enjoyed Navarro's other work or Pillsbury's work on the same subject, or to anyone who's interested in learning more about a very current and very critical issue that directly relates to the future of our country.

I started this book thinking that this would be completely anti-China, but Crouching Tiger surprised me in that it provides both sides of the story (American and Chinese) in a fairly objective manner. As the summary suggests, this book is a geopolitical detective story. The main mystery this book is trying to solve is “Will there be war with China?” Navarro does a good job of presenting his evidence in a way that even beginners to this topic could understand fairly easily. While some of his evidence seems a bit biased/could be worded better, for the most part, they are pretty convincing in presenting the argument that China could very well be preparing for a future war with the United States. Overall, I would say that this book provides a very Americanized view of what China could be planning. I find it difficult to believe that this book could forecast China’s exact plans since the country is pretty private about their internal matters. So I would say that readers should remember that when reading this book. For Americans, this is definitely a must-read because this book provides a lot of insight on what the United States is doing wrong in terms of handling the China situation and how this might affect the U.S.’s global power in the future.

This is a must read for anyone interested in furthering their knowledge on the political and military puzzle present in China and how it affects us, the United States, and the rest of the world. Navarro presents eye-opening facts and shocking points that are easy to follow and understand whether you are a political scientist or an interested college student. Compiling the bits and pieces of the issue, this book serves as an encyclopedia that anyone can reference for clarity on the topic of war and peace with China and the delicacy of our international relations.

Peter Navarro, in his latest bestseller “ Crouching Tiger” takes the reader through a thought-provoking journey of why we are currently facing China’s military situation. The book takes a step-by-step approach at the current situation, from different angles and perspectives, while presenting all the facts at face value. As you start peeling away the layers though, the underlying implications make you aware of a more profound intention – one that will impact the whole world. With his use of simple language and unique “Who done it?” detective writing style, Navarro is able to capture the interest of the reader to the very end. A quick read.

Crouching Tiger by Peter Navarro clearly points out the impacts and threat posed by the rising of China as a regional hegemony in Asia. The author elegantly explores ‘geopolitical China’ from different angles and cautions America to revisit its current strategies in military spending, space exploration etc. I enjoyed reading Chapter 18 where he tactically unravels the non kinetic ‘three warfares’ - psychological, media and legal which brings an unusual twist to this detective story. By all means this book is definitely a must read for all those interested in world affairs in general and economic stability of our nation in particular.
