OMG! In the beginning, I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed. I didn't like where this story was going. But, knowing K and her writing, I knew I just had to wait it out and I'd get the story I was waiting for. The dynamic seemed to have changed with a lot of the characters, but this story is a year later, so it's expected. But so much was NOT expected! KA can write a story you don't think you want to read and then, bam, there you have it all! I love how this story played out, I just had to be patient and wait. I can't wait for the next book in the series, because I REALLY REALLY need to know what happens!! If you haven't read this series yet, I truly highly recommend it!!

Holy moly, this book... I have been all in with the Cruel series by author K.A. Linde since the first book left me virtually staring at my e-reader with an open mouth and stunned look on my face. I mean, what the heck just happened there? Are there really people that operate like the Upper East Siders? Here, in the second book of the Cruel series, Kyla pulls out all the stops, and reading CRUEL FORTUNE was like being at a tennis tournament. Back and forth, back and forth, in the most delicious way. The surprises just kept coming, and, I have to say, I couldn't even begin to guess where all of her twists and turns would take me. There is enough passion, enough drama, and enough double-dealing to make this read like the most delicious soap opera ever. But, wait, there's more...because this story is far from over. I can hardly wait until July to get my hands on CRUEL LEGACY, the third and final installment in this over-the-top crazy good series. It is sure to delight, and finally, finally answer all of my remaining questions. In the meantime, CRUEL FORTUNE (and CRUEL MONEY, if you haven't read it yet) is not to be missed, so snap it up, all quick-like. You will be obsessed.

4 stars for - Cruel Fortune - book two in the Cruel series by K.A. Linde. You really need to read book one - Cruel Money - first in order to have a better understanding of the characters and storyline prior to diving into this one. Natalie Bishop is now a bestselling author and having to go back to the one place she never wanted to be again for a book release. New York’s Upper East side is full of the worst kind of people but it also contains her key to writing. What will she sacrifice in order to find her writing mojo again? The land of the rich and privileged is not for the faint of heart. Frenemies, secrets and lies are once again part of her life but she’s not going down without a fight! Fans of the author are going to love the second part of this hot trilogy for sure! Can’t wait to read the conclusion in part three!

Natalie, Penn and the rest of the Crew are back in the sequel to CRUEL MONEY. CRUEL FORTUNE had me hooked from the very first page. I was so mad when I had to cut my marathon reading short at 3am so I could sleep. Ms. Linde is one of my favorite authors and I both love and hate how you can be rooting for both men and be "ok" with which ever one she ends up with...at least until the bomb is dropped! This book is full of twists, turns and OMG moments. It's been a long time since I have been so excited to see how a couple's story will end. I'm already counting down to July 16th!!!!

Finally! We're back with Natalie and her new found success a year later after the gasp of an ending to book one. Her success brings new challenges and with the loss of Penn, her mojo. As Nat takes a chance and enters the fray of the Big Apple she back in the the realm of the rich and famous which means the Crew. There's backstabbing, secrets and lies galore with this bunch. Ugh! There's one evildoer that is due some serious retribution. I'm rooting for Natalie even after her less than stellar actions. Will she finally leave Penn behind or vice versa? It appears so when Nat develops a new relationship with an old acquaintance. But in usual fashion with this fantastic author and her intriguing storytelling we have another killer ending that left me jonesing for the rest of the story ! Can't wait for the next installment in this terrific series. Loved it! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

Cruel Fortune by K.A. Linde is the highly anticipated second novel in her Cruel serial. Cruel Fortune is not a standalone. The books must be read in order. The previous books are One Cruel Night, a prequel; and Cruel Money. Natalie and Penn's story continues and the bokk picks up some time after the previous one was left off. After Penn's latest betrayal, Natalie's had enough. She returned home and build a new life for herself. Now she's back, stronger than before. But is she strong enough to compete against the Upper East snottiness? Cruel Fortune is a fast paced, breathtaking read that had me hanging on the edge of my seat. The book has more of everything. More drama, more revenge and more betrayal. I recommend this excellent written serial and can't wait to read the next instalment, Cruel Legacy.

While glamorous, the Upper East Side is full of betrayal and deceit and Cruel Fortune is by far the juiciest book in the Cruel Trilogy. It’s been a year since the events that transpired in Cruel Money and Natalie has managed to do something that she always wanted to do from the very beginning, to publish a book. But signing with a New York publishing house has its drawbacks as she will be expected to go back to the place she vowed to never return. With just a few days from the official launch, Natalie finds herself back in the city and back into the world of wealth and glamour. She never expected to fit seamlessly, but she soon finds out that there are a lot more secrets and lies that revolve around everyone she knows. Natalie will have to face new challenges as she finds her way through all the treachery that is the Upper East Side. I’m still trying to process what just happened in the book, just when I thought it was going to go a certain way, the author completely blew my mind with the direction she took with this book. The storyline felt fresh and captivating at the same time. K.A. Linde has managed to deliver a great story filled with suspense, romance and lots of twists to keep you wanting for more. I cannot wait to read what happens in the final book, Cruel Legacy. It’s going to be epic!

This is book 2 in this trilogy and things are really heating up. Ms. Linde is a master at building her worlds and her characters. It's so easy to pretend to live in their world. If you love stories with sex and scandal, this is the trilogy for you. You need to read Cruel Money which is book 1 before reading this one. Can't wait for book 3!

Honestly, that was so different from what I was expecting to read. I’m not even 100% sure how I feel about this book. I’m giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion. This was dual POV with the exception of one chapter from another person’s POV, but honestly, most of the book was focused on Natalie. I enjoyed this overall, but like I stated in the above paragraph, this was nothing like I thought it would be. It was a roller coaster of emotions for at least 1/4 of the book. I can’t say much without spoiling things, so I’ll just discuss how I felt about our main characters. I liked Natalie once again. She was a good main character, and yes, she made some stupid decisions, but so do a lot of people. We’re human after all! And Penn…I loved him. He was definitely a cross between anti-hero and hero. He fell firmly in the gray area when it came to morality and his actions. But I couldn’t help but adore him, because he sacrificed for what he wanted most in the world. I can’t wait to read the last book in this trilogy! I need to know what happens after that epilogue. Also there was a part in this book that mentioned characters from a previous series that made me smile. I haven’t read the last few books in the Wright series, so it kind of spoiled things for me unfortunately. I’d recommend reading that entire series before this one, if you can.

CRUEL FORTUNE is the second full-length instalment in K. A. Linde’s contemporary, adult CRUEL erotic, romance series focusing on thirty year old, philosophy professor Penn Kensington, and twenty-five year old writer Natalie Bishop. CRUEL FORTUNE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up one year following the events of book one Cruel Money. Told from three first person points of view (Natalie, Penn, Katherine) CRUEL FORTUNE picks up one year after the events that destroyed and broke our story line heroine. With the publication of her first book, Natalie embarks on a whirlwind press tour including several stops in New York City, the city where her past lives and resides. Unable to move beyond the pain and heart break of betrayal Natalie will come face to face with the people who tore her down and spit her out, people who are about to disrupt and unravel her world, once again. Torn in several directions Natalie will set out on a journey that will come full circle when she is once again the pawn in a game bigger than she could have ever imagined. CRUEL FORTUNE focuses on the naivete of one woman as she struggles to move on from the past, a past of which she lived, but a past that is now a number one New York Times Best Seller. Hoping to remain below the radar Natalie is quickly thrust into the world that all but ripped out her heart, a world that is about to consume her body and soul. K. A. Linde invites the reader into an emotional, angst filled story of seduction and lies; betrayal and distrust; manipulation, cruelty, uncertainty and loss. The premise is engaging, thought provoking, gritty and raw; the characters are animated, tragic and untrustworthy; the romance struggles with the lies and manipulation of a woman who finds herself collateral damage in a game played by the spoiled and rich. The deception and dealings are about to be exposed, deception that travels from every direction.

5 Angsty, Emotional, Blindsided Stars “Because it’s all about never really knowing the truth and getting every side of the tale, except what really happened.” Natalie is back, 1 year after her falling out with Penn. She achieved her dream of publishing a book, but unfortunately that accomplishment also requires her to go back to the place that caused her so much pain – New York City. At a meeting with her publisher, she is surprised by Lewis, whose family owns the publishing company. Once again she is brought into the world of the Upper East Side. “I don’t fit in here. The Upper East Side isn’t my home. It’s this other universe that I’ll never belong to. I learned that the hard way.” I won’t go into anymore details about the story, but I will say there is a whole lot of Penn's friend Lewis and not nearly enough Penn for my taste. I lovvvvve bad boy Penn. I spent the majority of this book missing Penn and living for Natalie and Penn’s limited interactions sprinkled throughout. I was absolutely stunned by the direction this book took and now I honestly have no idea what to expect for the conclusion! Kyla is not afraid to blindside us readers - haha! What I disliked about Cruel Money was how Natalie was so insecure and afraid to stand up for herself. No need to worry though, because at the end of Cruel Fortune, she has FULLY come into her own. “But I did know that I Was done playing by my own moral code. Done playing by the rules.” I am so excited (and slightly terrified) to see what Kyla brings in the final installment, Cruel Legacy. **ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**

Every book by KA Linde just gets better and better. With each new release her writing as an author is even better than the last, and her skills at plot development have grown exponentially since her debut. While you can always expect angst in a Kyla book, I must admit I truly never know what else to expect. Twists around every turn, YUP! Passion and love and hate, YOU GOT IT! With Cruel Fortune, I was nervous going having had a book hangover since the last page of Cruel Money, but boy was I in for a ride I couldn’t even have predicted from Kyla! In Cruel Money we pick up 1 year after THAT ending in Cruel Money. You know the one…. The one that was heart-wrenching to read! Yes, that one! Natalie and Penn in Cruel Fortune, where do I even begin? Their lives have both continued even with their fierce connection they shared being shattered at the end of book 1. Natalie is a best-selling author now, and Penn has distanced himself from his crew after the events from the prior year. When Natalie finds herself back in the one place she never wanted to step foot in again, it’s inevitable that the two will cross paths. As we watch things unfold with Natalie and her new career, she finds herself once again navigating the waters of the Upper East Side. Penn however has not moved on from how he always truly felt about Natalie, and once he hears about her being back in town once again, it all comes flooding back to him. Penn’s character is very deep in this series and right when you think you have him figured out, he throws you a curve ball which in some cases can be a good or a bad thing. The way Kyla has managed to develop all these characters in this series has simply blown me away. I find it very had now days to find original stories that hold my attention, but the Cruel series is by far my favorite thing I’ve read in 2019 to date! While the angst is nail biting when you are in the middle of it, it adds such a complex dimension to the stories being told and how the characters live their lives. I can’t wait for the final book and to see how Natalie and Penn’s story, as well as all the crew’s, unfold! This story is truly Gossip Girl meets Cruel Intentions, with a splash of Scandal and Mean Girls mixed in!

A heart stopping, gripping story full of drama that will have you on the edge of your seat! Like watching reality TV but in book form!! This is the second installment in the series and it blew my mind as well as caused my heart to about beat out of my chest! Especially towards the end! I really admired the way Natalie became, how she handles herself now, she seems more sure of herself! When she reconnects with a certain man, needless to say the drama is mind blowingly good! It’s almost like watching a reality show, thats my take! It was delicious in parts, there was also some really great family/friendships and a few surprises! So flipping good! A definite must read series! Literally cannot wait for more!!! So excited for the final part of the trilogy!

BAH! I wasn't prepared for this book. The twists, angst, chemistry... it was so, so good!! Classic Linde awesomeness. There's just something about Natalie, Pen, Lewis, the rest of The Crew, and the Upper East Side that I can't quite figure out. You never know who to trust, what's going on, what secrets there are, or where this story is going to go that sucks you in. I can't wait for the last book!

Cruel Fortune is the second book in the Cruel trilogy and starts where we left off in Cruel Money.. Natalie finally published her first book and now a best selling author.. She is now living her dream.. Natalie's book is based on the real life incident that happened in the upper east side of Manhattan, while she had been a Care taker of homes.. So, the last thing she wants in her life is to set foot again in Upper East Side, NYC. However, with the book hitting the best seller list, Natalie is left with no choice as her first book tour stop is NYC.. I dont wanna go further into the plot as anything would be a spoiler.. All i wanna say is - Expect the unexpected!! This book takes angst to a whole new level.. The twist n turns blew my mind... K.a Linde is well known for her angst and cliff hangers.. Even that knowledge didnt prepare me for the angst in this book.. This book made me so angry n frustrated.. Made me want to shout n kick a few characters.. However, when i finished the book, i was totally mind blown with the writing and flow of the story, and the characters!!! I cant wait to read what happens in the final book and July seems to be too long a wait!!!

Linde makes it hard not to love her stories. She makes it even harder to review them. Scandal meets backstabbing and dangerous attraction. How can one love a person when they are not even sure they like them? There in lies the paradox of Natalie and Penn. Buckle up for a manipulative ride as addictive as it frustrating.
