Apologetics is a topic within Christian theology that many try to avoid, but it is all something that we are called to in one way or another. We get this mandate directly from 1 Peter 3:15 which states, “but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you”. The Apologetics Study Bible is a great tool to help all of us answer questions on the Christian faith. The study Bible is published by B&H and utilizes the new translation known as the Christian Standard Bible. It is not the purpose of this article to critique the CSB, but I have done so in a previous post which you can read here. The apologetics portion of the Bible consists of several articles that are spread throughout the book. There is no shortage of articles as the book contains topics such as “What does the Bible teach about angels”, “What does the Bible say about Euthanasia?”, and “What are the three laws of logic?” The book is evangelical in nature, and the articles are written by some leading apologists such as Dr. Gary Habermas, Norman Geisler, and Ravi Zacharias. Overall the book is good for anyone that wants a down to basics view on basic Christian doctrine. Highly recommended just for the articles alone. [Note: This book was provided free of charge from B&H publishing in exchange for an honest review.]

The CSB Apologetics Study Bible is absolutely wonderful. If you are looking for a bible that is easy to use and easy to understand than this is the Bible for you. It is easy to read for me with the font size, lots of other bible have print that is so fine that I can’t read it. The pages are easy to turn. The two colors are great. Love the commentary that is included in it. The two color interior is very nice. Full color maps and much, much more.

CSB Apologetics Study Bible, Hardcover, was released by B&H Publishing Group as a study bible. I received a complimentary copy for my honest review. The CSB Apologetics Study Bible comes in hardcover and boasts a black hardcover with the image of Auguste Rodin's The Thinker, in the background. The thin, white pages with bold, black lettering are filled with footnotes for studying. The scripture is printed in a font which is easy for the eyes to handle leaving enough white space for notes or rest. This bible opens with an introduction to the Christian Standard Bible. It has an index of abbreviations and leads with the definition of apologetics written by contributing author Kenneth D. Boa. I appreciated this introduction since I am quite new to apologetics.  I especially love the introductions to each book of the bible. There are articles in each book which helps with situating scripture for easy interpretation. There are a number of boxes which highlight how we get scripture twisted. Some of these were helpful.  I'm not concerned with other religions and therefore the comparisons were not my favorite. I was also keenly aware that of the 112 contributors to the articles in the bible, only 3 of those where women. Sharon James wrote, "Does the Bible Demean Women?" Sheri L. Klouda wrote, "Introduction and Notes: Song of Songs." Barbara B. Pemberton wrote, "How Does the Bible Relate to Islam?" I would have like to see more women's scholarly, theological contributions. However, I find the CSB Apologetics Study Bible refreshing and I will be using it next to my own battered and worn NLT.  I would recommend this bible to any scholar or student wanting to press further and more deliberately into the teachings of Jesus.

The CSB Apologetics Study Bible is a good resource to add to your Bible study. In my opinion, the most useful information that has been included in this Bible is the articles. These articles covered a wide variety of topics and most of them answered some difficult questions very clearly. There were a few articles that I felt could have delved a bit deeper in their explanations. I found myself comparing this Bible with the CSB Apologetics Study Bible for Students, which I recently reviewed. I personally felt that the student Bible had articles which were more in-depth and helpful to me (even as an adult). I also missed having some of the break out sections from the student Bible, such as “Fast Facts” and “Challenges and Tactics”. However, the CSB Apologetics Study Bible did contain “Twisted Scripture” sections just as the student Bible did, breaking down how scripture is sometimes used incorrectly. So, although I would have loved to see a little more packed into this Bible, I believe it is still a good resource to reach for in studying what the Bible says concerning topics that are very relevant to our lives today. I received a complimentary copy of this Bible. All opinions are my own.
