Recovering from the loss of her husband hasn't been easy for Bailey, and she's retreated from life to the point where she goes to work, comes home, and that's the most she can say she's done every day...that is, until one morning she walks into the place she works and witnesses a murder.

Terrified she'll be next, she flees into traffic and nearly gets run over. What might have been her death instead awakens the spark of life inside her again. Just as ironically, the man driving the car that almost hit her awakens another ache she'd assumed was forever gone with her husband.

Dakota persuades her to move into the compound where he's employed, Legendary Securities, for her own safety. With his promise to track down the murderer she'd witnessed, Bailey has no choice but to accept the help. Before long, it's no longer her life she's most worried about losing. Will the man who almost ran her down steal her heart?

Dakota's Delight by Dale Mayer Heroes for Hire Series Book Nine Dakota Languor is fairly new to the Legendary family. In the few months he's been here, it's become home. So many of the them are finding their mates—even his best friend, Saul, who he came to Texas with. Dakota would like a family, but isn't in a hurry. Bailey Hoskins hasn't been living since her husband died. A part of her died with him. And then—she saw something she wasn't supposed to and now someone is trying to kill her. Funny, but having someone trying to kill her has made her want to live. The compound they live in is filled with interesting men and women. Ex-military folks who have found a new home and purpose...Legendary Security. Great story and characters. **Sexual content

The great thing about this series is you are not left floundering if you haven't read the earlier books. You will definitely want to. Suspense, check. Romance, check. Action, check. I really appreciated an Alpha male who wasn't a**, and a female who was believable in being strong yet vulnerable. I volunteered to review this book and want to thank Dale Mayer and Forward Marketing and Valley Publishing for an ARC.

An auspicious collision… This is the ninth book in the Heroes for Hire series that can be read as a stand-alone. Running errands for Legendary Security on a rainy day, Dakota Langour bumps into a woman with his car who just bolted into traffic from out of nowhere, thankfully he drove slowly due to the weather but the woman suffered some hurt from the accident. When she won’t accept his assistance he follows her to gain her trust, a man like Dakota doesn’t leave a woman in obvious distress and suffering shock. He has a good way with people and soon eases the woman’s fear of him enough to learn her story. What she’s about to face isn’t something she should do alone and he’ll help with the assistance of his teammates. Life has been hard for Bailey Hoskins who has been mourning the death of her husband for eighteen months. Getting through each day since his loss has been a task and she’s gone through the motions, existing but not living. Leaving work she takes a shortcut down an alley and sees the commission of a murder, to make matters worse she recognized one of the men involved. The instinct for survival, the fear for her life, sends her running with an animated spark she hadn’t felt in over a year. Not looking where she’s going she steps into traffic and gets hit by a car and not trusting of strangers after what she’d witnessed she runs from the driver who only wants to help, but you can’t run from a hero. A recent addition to the company Dakota is one of the singles at the compound who enjoyed taking on errands to get a break from the “coupleness” that is rampant everywhere on base. Not that he has an aversion to it, he just hadn’t met the right woman. Bailey intrigues him but she’s getting over a loss and may not be ready to move on with her life, that doesn’t mean he can’t be her supportive friend for now. Dakota likes what he sees and learns of Bailey but he won’t push for more which shows how much of a gentleman he is. Luckily when the lady realized that she’s ready she takes the lead. Bailey does have spunk, for all the fragility and vulnerability seen in her at first when she awakens you see the inner strength she had within. This was a solid addition to the series filled with action, suspense, and intrigue. The compound sees its share of home-based combat again as the witness to a crime needed serious protection. Recognition of an accomplice to an illegal act doesn’t mean you make a police report and then move on with your life, the criminals don’t sit still for it. Dakota’s and Bailey’s literal collision into each other’s lives in a way was fate rectifying her being at the wrong place at the wrong time earlier, providing what she needed in the form of a strong sexy protector. An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.

Another great addition to this awesome series. I love that the guys find love when they least expect it. Every chance meeting is always something unusual, Dakota and Bailey's starts when he hits her with his truck. Not the best way to meet a girl but it seemed to work. Bailey has been having a trying few years, her husband died, she is spent all her money to pay medical bills and she sees a murder putting her life in danger. Time for a Hero to step in and save the day and Dakota is up to the challenge. Danger, intrigue, humor, friendship and drama keep the storyline moving along. Add in some great characters, fun interactions , bad guys that wont stop and you are in for an entertaining read. The newbies are falling under the curse that surrounds this retired seal group and it is sure fun to watch them fall. I look forward to what happens next. I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion
