Through these death-defying activities and the unwavering support of her friends, Sheri slowly found the strength to move forward in life.

More than just a memoir, this empowering female travelogue pairs emotionally resonant, confessional storytelling with spiritual takeaways, challenging readers to engage fully in their own lives, surround themselves with friends who will support them, and face life's challenges with courage and faith.

If you've ever experienced a sudden loss or upheaval in life, Sheri's story will reassure you that even if life as you knew it is over, the future God has for you is always full of new adventures.

Daring to Live, by Sheri Hunter, is a book full of inspiration and hope. Hunter lost her husband, the love of her life, when he passed away suddenly at fifty years old. While the author recounts her understandable feelings of sadness, worry, anxiety and depression, she was fortunate to have a support network; a tight-knit group of friends that called themselves the “Dare Divas”. However, it is ultimately her faith in God that sustains her and gives her direction in living the rest of her life. I enjoyed reading about all of the adventures that the Dare Divas challenged themselves to do. Their hike up Mount Kilimanjaro was something I would never want to even attempt, but it was interesting to hear their story. Reading about Hunter’s solo cruise Oceania cruise that took her to twenty countries in 65 days was also fascinating. While there was a little too much back and forth dialogue included in the stories for my taste, the conversations between the women were entertaining. Daring to Live challenged me to think about stepping outside of my comfort zone and to remember to trust God in all things.

Daring to Live: How the Power of Sisterhood and Taking Risks Can Jump-Start Your Joy by Sheri Hunter is an inspirational book about overcoming fear and seeking joy. Sheri Hunter faced personal tragedy in her life, and her interesting book serves as part memoir, part self-improvement book, as she encourages us to be brave and live outside our comfort zones. I loved reading about Hunter's journey, as she took new risks and embraced the joy that life has to offer. Each chapter talks about how we can be daring in different ways; I especially liked Chapter 5, "dare to be bold," and Chapter 6, "dare to move forward." I liked seeing Hunter's bond with her friends, and how she and her friends lifted one another up.  I received this book for review.

After having children, I think it is easy for a lot of women to lose who they are. When she started feeling lost, Sheri Hunter joined a group of women from her church to find a support system. What Hunter found is much more than a group of friends--she found a group of sisters who called themselves the Dare Divas who challenged her to live life to the fullest. She tells her story in Daring to Live. A few years after the Dare Divas started challenging each other to live with courage and face their fears, Hunter faced one of the biggest challenges of her life. Her husband, Mannard, passed away at just 50 years old. Hunter struggled to face that challenge and at times turned to crutches like alcohol for a time to numb the pain. But she faced that challenge too, found an accountability partner and conquered that. Through the years, the Dare Divas supported each other with love and prayer--and challenges to do some big adventures together--like whitewater rafting, zip lining, and even mountain climbing. I found Daring to Live to be truly inspirational. Hunter writes well and kept me turning pages to see what the next adventure the Dare Divas would tackle. Along with the adventures, Hunter shares a lot of encouragement and continues to remind the reader that God is with them too--no matter what challenges they face. I also liked that she shares from her heart but she is honest too. She doesn't sugar coat everything. She tells about how hard it was to grieve her husband. She tells about difficulties they had within the group at one point. Yet, she continues to let the reader know that, with the right spirit, these challenges helped her grow and helped them ultimately grow closer. Daring to Live is a good read for someone needing that reminder that they can face the hard things with good friends and God is with them. I received this book from Baker Books Publishing. My newest favorite book is entitled Daring to Live by Shari Hunter. Shari takes us on a journey around the world with three of her best friends who call themselves The Dare Divas. This memoir tells us how the camaraderie and sisterhood of the friendship with these women changed her life. I laughed and cried while reading this book. I love that the book invites every reader to live a bold and daring life by doing what God calls us to do. Shari shares with us that a good friend will cause us to remember God's faithfulness even in the midst of the hardest and saddest times in our lives. I love the mantra that she preached to herself, "Girl, you can cry, but you gotta keep moving." I was encouraged that she even discussed the messy side of friendships of how to seek reconciliation when one of your dearest friends hurts you. I am thankful that this important topic was a part of this story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I would recommend Daring to Live to any woman who wants to read an inspiring read about how God can use friendships to teach us and draw us closer to him. I received this book for free as part of the Baker Book Bloggers program. All opinions are my own.
