I was so excited when I saw this book was coming out. I love Donna Grant’s books. However, since there was a second set of reapers introduced in a previous book, I was afraid we wouldn’t get a conclusion to the main enemy across the series. I also wasn’t expecting Death to get her HEA! The only other Fae book that would’ve made me happier would’ve been Rhi’s. If you can’t tell, this book didn’t disappoint me at all. I tore through it as quickly as possible and loved every page. I highly recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

Dark Alpha’s Awakening by Donna Grant A Reaper Novel #7 This book begins with the beginning...the beginning of Death or Erith or sometimes SHE...it tells of her past and how she came to be and why the sword was hidden and then picked up again. From there we move to a dream Cael is having of how Death came to him and turned him into a Reaper. From there we move on to dealing with Bran...once a Reaper but definitely fallen from Grace. He must be thwarted and to do so Erith has to pick up her sword again. Cael and the other Reapers (now two teams of them) will be there at her side as she makes her move. Cael and Erith have danced around one another for...well...almost forever. In this book the dancing pace picks up and moves on to and beyond seduction and...it was well worth waiting for. Cael and Erith SO belong together. There are fights and captures and torture and pain and angst and drama and...LOVE...getting to see the other reapers and their women and hearing about the first birth of a Reaper child was so much fun! I am not sure where this series will go next and having NOT read all the other threads dealing with this marvelous world filled with dragons and warriors and kings and reapers and faeries and...probably other beings I am unaware of it made me wish I had started with book one of the series and not book one of the Reapers to really immerse and know everyone mentioned in this book. That said...this was a superb read and well worth waiting for! Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press-Swerve and InkslingerPR for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

Another fabulous book in Donna Grant's Reaper series. I wasn't sure Cael and Eriith (Death) would every be able to come together (even though they clearly had feelings for each other but we're trying to hide them) but they found a way. Love all rhe characters, danger, and heat in this series. The danger continues as one enemy is destroyed and another is in their sights. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, St. Martin's Press, via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.

This is the first book I have read in the Reapers series and I LOVED it! I now have to go back and read the whole series. I will say that I was able to enjoy the whole story but I do think that you need to read the rest of the books for the full picture. Cael and Erith have had feelings for each other for a long time and finally give in! Though I have not read the series I could still feel the angst of two lovers who have had to resist their feelings and know that fans of the series must be excited. I don’t want to give to much of the story away but there is action, romance, suspense and a page turning plot! Donna Grant has build an amazing paranormal world that is a joy to delve into with each book!

This is my 1st Reaper book. I enjoyed the power struggle between Erith who is Death and Bran a fallen reaper who is able to siphon her power for himself. Will her love for Cael finally be her Achilles heel in her war with Bran. Death must bring all her reapers together and bring back the Mistress of War to confront Bran once and for all. This is a series that would be well worth visiting again. I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher St Martin’s Press in return for an honest review.

The seventh book in the Reaper series is an explosive thrilling read that readers don’t want to put down. Finally, the one that readers have been eagerly awaiting, Death and Cael’s romance is packed full of sizzling chemistry with a magnetic pull that defies gravity. The relationship is not an easy one that’s for sure and readers cannot possible imagine the heat and the passion that explodes from the pages when this couple finally give in to the attraction that they have denied for so long, in fact that passion singes readers with its intensity and the emotional depth of their relationship is one that captures readers hearts forever. The fast paced and smooth flowing plot gets the adrenaline pumping right from the start and keeps readers biting their nails and holding their breath in expectation and anticipation of what will happen. The thrilling events and the suspense filled story keeps the excitement flowing throughout and there is never a dull moment to be found anywhere in this book. Not only is the Reapers going up against their enemy in a major way but they are joining forces with unexpected allies and things are happening that one would never have expected would happen which really makes the story more realistic as the group gear up for this huge battle that they know may just cost them their lives, a battle that is fantastically depicted by the way. Donna Grant always spins her tales in a way that ensnares readers and keeps them spectacularly entertained but Dark Alpha’s Awakening is so much more that there is just no way that readers can remain detached during the unfolding events that take place throughout this gripping, explosively thrilling and memorable story.

I have not read any of the other books in this series and I will be remedying that because this book just blew me away. We get so much action and all the chills and thrills I love in a good book. Erith and Cael have one heck of a fight to get through. All the Reapers are in for the battle of a lifetime against a trader Bran. Those once thought Foe may, in turn, be a friend and vice versa... A wickedly great read.

This was everything I wanted it to be and more. Cael and Erith have been dancing around each other for a millennia. Long time for an attraction to simmer and boy, when they got together, they combusted! I was surprised by where Donna took these two and am still a little confused by Cael’s transformation, but it didn’t take away from the book. While this was the end of the Reaper series, this isn’t the end of the Reaper’s. With a Fae to fin d and a psycho queen to see disturbed, I anticipate we’ll see more of our friends in the Dragon King books. Here’s hoping we get also get something in the future with Xaneth and Aisling. Those two have some sparks that I’d love to see explored. “At the female’s words, Cael saw Xaneth stiffen. Interesting that Xaneth was known for his ability to negotiate with both the Light and Dark Fae, but Aisling seemed to get under his skin.”

Donna Grant was one of the first paranormal romance authors I read, and I really enjoyed her books. I moved more toward historical romances, and I haven't read much of this genre in a while. This book reminded me why I loved paranormal romance and Ms. Grant's exciting storytelling. I will admit right off the bat that not having read the previous books in this series left me a bit lost. Apparently the many characters previously had numerous adventures together. Did it ruin my enjoyment of this story? Not in the least! I am now determined to go back and read about the rest of Death's Reapers. Cael was one of Erith's (aka "Death" and the "Mistress of War") Reapers. They have had feelings for each other for ages, and here it becomes too much to resist. It's hard to have romance during a time of war between the Light and Dark Fae! Erith is an incredibly strong woman - she's called Death, after all - but Cael is nothing to sneeze at. Who else could make Death weak in the knees when he's being commanding? Things come to a head when Erith and the Reapers battle it out with arch enemy Bran. The story became exciting and totally un-put-downable, plus also made me cry. Can't wait to read more of Ms. Grant's Reapers! I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

There is a war. Death is tired of killing Fae. There are multiple battles. More Reapers appear. The bad guy dies. This was not my cat-nip. 2 Stars

The ultimate battle unfolds… This is the seventh book in the Reapers series. Who is the woman known as Death? To the Reapers, she’s known as Erith, judge of the Fae race. But is she Fae? Was she the Mistress of War as suspected? We have been tantalized with tidbits of her story, here we finally learn where she came from, what she’s capable of, what drives her, and what she yearns for. A crossroads has been reached, the crescendo that’s been building reaches culmination. A solution must be found to stop the drain of Erith’s essence if she is to destroy her enemy to save the very fabric of existence, the battle between Bran and Erith is one between good and evil in the universe. Erith, who has always been separate from other beings, doesn’t stand alone, those given life after death from betrayal stand with her, they won’t desert her no matter what she orders, she has gained more than their loyalty, the Reapers are a bonded family. The Reaper Cael, leader of a group of justice bringers, has stood by Death, yearned for her though they could never be as she’s an entity so far removed from the Fae that he is. But where there is Death there is Fate and sometimes Fate has a hand in the final outcome of things, as Erith has grown so does Cael. I loved this wonderful conclusion to the suspenseful plot that has played out over the previous books, answers were provided, loose ends tied up, ties to the Fae and the Dragon Kings made much clearer yet there is still more to come. Justice has yet to be claimed against one of the Fae, the evilest one. The characters in this series have so much depth, lightness and darkness are not always exclusive within them and it’s those with redeeming qualities that you feel for the most. The scenes with Balladyn and Xaneth left me wishing for more for them than what they have. Can what was once good be again? An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.

I was pretty stoked when I saw that there was going to be a book 7 in the Reapers series. I got even more excited when I started reading Dark Alpha’s Awakening. Why was I excited? Because it was Cael and Death (Erith’s) romance. The romance that I was waiting to read. It was also the romance that I didn’t think would happen. So, yes, I was thrilled. I loved that I got to know more about Erith in this book. Her origins fascinated me. Her stint as Mistress of War and what started it fascinated me. As did why she stopped and formed the Reapers. Erith brought it in this book. She was determined to find out what Bran was doing/using to drain her life essence. She was also going to end Bran, which was something that should have been done years ago. I loved it. Cael was awesome in this book also. He was going to do whatever it took to save Erith from Bran. He was a great leader who was loyal to his Reapers. He was willing to do whatever it took to protect his Reapers, their women, and Erith. And oh boy, did he. I liked how the author kept the sex scenes in Dark Alpha’s Awakening to a minimum. There were 2 or 3 scenes of Erith and Cael having sex. Those sex scenes were beyond hot. There was no build up of sexual tension in this book. But, Cael and Erith had 6 previous books to let it build and man, did it explode. I enjoyed that the author had this world intertwined with The Dark Kings world. I didn’t quite catch on that they were in the same universe until the last Dark King book, Dragonfire. There was a certain point where Eoghan and Thea were mentioned. At that point, I was like “They are connected, WTH.”. That showed up even more so in this book. Bran, Balladyn, Rhi, Usaeil, and Xaneth were all featured in this book. What surprised me the most about this book was the author was not afraid to let people die in this book. There were a couple of deaths that took me by surprise. One I was expecting but the other, well it blindsided me. That made me wonder who was going to be the next one to get killed. I have a good idea who but I am going to have to wait to see what happens in the next book. I am also waiting to see if Erith takes the advice that was given to her and involve the Dragon Kings in the war that is going to happen. Guess I am going to need to keep reading the books to find out. The end of the book was interesting. While some plotlines were tied up there were other ones that were left open. New plotlines were introduced near the end of the book. I am interested to see where the plotline with Xaneth is going to go. From what was written at the end of the book, it doesn’t look good.

Grant brings another Reaper Read. Fantastic!! "A copy of this book was provided by St. Martin's Press via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

This is book 7 in the Reaper's series and absolutely must be read in order or you will be completely lost as to what is going on! This one is about Erith (Death) and Cael. I really don't want to give anything away because so much happens in this book and one thing said might ruin it for someone. However I will say that I absolutely loved getting the full story of Erith. And I absolutely loved learning about all of her Reapers and the things that made her choose them. I definitely didn't expect this book to come out the way it did, but it was absolutely perfect this way! And that full battle that we were all hoping for? It is EPIC!! All I will say is that I completely loved every minute of this book and can't wait to see where else this series can take us with the other Reapers and characters!

Dark Alpha's Awakening (Reaper, #7) by Donna Grant ....Why can I give this only 5 stars? Thank you so much to the publishers and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Donna Grant outdid herself with this one...Cael(Reaper ...keeps his feelings hidden for Death(Eirth) and she denies hers) This story has so many twists and turns you can hardly catch your breath. Some light moments, and I'll admit I shed some very ugly tears at one point, violence, treachery, loyalty and steamy sex all getting us to a very HEA...but leaving open some questions to be answered in the next book. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Page-turner Romantic Tear-jerker Witty Great world building Action-packed Entertaining Unpredictable Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Steamy Easy-to-read

4.5 stars--DARK ALPHA’S AWAKENING is the seventh instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult REAPER paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Reaper Cael’s story line. The REAPERS is a spin off from Donna’s DARK KINGS series which is a spinoff from Donna’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand the premise but many of the events overlap with the events of the Dark Kings. DARK ALPHA’S AWAKENING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. SOME BACKGROUND: The Reapers (believed to be a folk lore amongst the Fae) are a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death (aka Erith), on their own deathbed, to do her bidding-Death is the judge and jury; the Reapers are the executioners. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. All Reapers must follow two rules: never to fall in love; and never to reveal their existence to anyone. If you have read Donna’s DARK KINGS series you will recognize the familiarity between the two series as both follow a similar plot and premise including betrayal by one of their own. Bran is a former Reaper who fell in love but Death ended their relationship by destroying his heart and the woman he loved, sentencing Bran to Netherworld for millions of years. Upon his escape, Bran sets about to destroy the Reapers, and seeks revenge against the woman known as Death. Told from dual third person perspectives (Cael and Erith) DARK ALPHA’S AWAKENING follows Cael, the leader of the Reapers, and Death aka Erith, as they prepare to do battle with former Reaper Bran. Bran has been amassing an army of the Dark Fae in a build up towards war, a war wherein Bran has plans to destroy the Reapers, and take down the woman known as Death, for destroying his heart and the woman he loved. Erith, or more precisely, the Mistress of War, has reinvented herself as Death-the judge and jury of the Dark and Light Fae- but also a woman who has fallen in love with one of her own. Bran’s betrayal and need for focused revenge against the family that were once his brethren and fellow Reapers forces Death and Cael to being together all of the Reapers in an effort to stop Bran’s destruction of the world. DARK ALPHA’S AWAKENING is a revealing, energetic and fast paced story of family, betrayal, vengeance and love. We are privy to Erith’s beginnings: her development into the Mistress of War, and eventual leadership of Death’s Reapers. Erith has fallen in love with one of her Reapers, a man who is equally smitten with our story line heroine. Cael’s own powers begin to grown exponentially, powers that will directly affect his standing with the Reapers and Death. For fans of Donna’s Dark Kings series surprising revelations will bring to rest a few unanswered questions and concerns, yet continuing to tease the readers about Rhi’s King, and Con’s mate.

What a satisfying ending to this series. I know that the Reapers will in more books but this part of the series is over with this book. The love with have been waiting for finally happens! Bran is finally dealt with. Some interesting things happen with other Fae that we all know. I think Donna did a fantastic job putting everything together in this book. We get resolution on a lot of things. As we know this is not the end for the Reapers so I will be so interested to see where this story goes now. *I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"Dark Alpha's Awakening" is the seventh novel in a series but is OK to read as a stand-alone (everything is explained well). This novel primarily follows Death herself, Erith, and one of her reapers, Cael. Erith is the goddess (or mistress) of war- she had fought for centuries before she realized that was not what she wanted to do anymore. She hid her sword and created reapers from Fae who were killed by those who betrayed them. The reapers, with whom she shares some of her power, mete out the punishments based on her judgments. Now known as death, Erith must give up her hands-off approach. Bran, a reaper who violated her rules about love (which have since been revised), became unstable after she killed his lover (to whom he revealed the secrets of the reapers). Since then and after breaking out of the prison Erith created for him, Bran has made it his mission to get revenge on Erith and her reapers. He has something which is allowing him to siphon her powers and weaken her with a large battle looming. He has gathered dark fae for the upcoming war and shared with them the powers he has stolen from Erith. Cael is a reaper who cares deeply for Erith. He knew her before he died, and he may have loved her even then. Now, he certainly does, but with the distance she keeps from them, he assumes he doesn't have a chance. Erith fell in love with Cael and he inspired her to start the reapers (although he was not the first), but she is used to denying her feelings and keeping her distance. That distance is harder to keep as she weakens and must begin to rely more on her reapers for the upcoming battles. This book is heavy on the action/battles and fantasy with a nice cherry-on-top type romance between Cael and Erith. Although there are a couple of hot and heavy scenes, most of the novel centers around the battles and war upcoming. Overall, I really enjoyed it! It's a quick read and hard to put down. Getting to see Death's perspectives was really interesting, and I liked the dynamics between her and Cael, as well as her other reapers (non-romantic relationships). I have not read any of the previous books in this series, but I was able to follow the story easily (and now I definitely want to go back and read the others). This is sure to be a hit with fans of fantasy/adventure stories with some romance. This fast-paced and action-packed novel also builds a nice love story. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

The ultimate battle between Bran and Erith is finally here! This has been building for awhile now and it held up to the hype. It's hard to write a review when you don't want to give anything away so I'll just say that I wasn't expecting what happened with Cael and Erith, but I completely approve. I loved getting the beginning to Erith's story because it explained so much about her and why she choose Reapers and even how she chose them. While this could have easily felt like an ending, it didn't. There is still so much left unfinished. Since the Reaper series has intertwined with the Dark Kings series, I'm not sure if there will be more Reaper books or if some of the unfinished will get resolved in the Dark Kings series. Either way, I'm looking forward to the next book.
