Chicago lawyer Ben Corbin has just launched his private practice when Dr. Mikhail Ivanovsky, a mysterious Russian scientist, hires him to sue for possession of a safe deposit box. But when the box’s owner enlists the city’s highest-powered lawyer—and then turns up dead—the Russian confesses: inside the box is an old Soviet biowarfare formula for the deadliest disease known to humankind.
To make matters worse, a technicality called the Dead Man’s Rule now forbids the scientist from taking the stand. With no one to testify—and therefore no evidence—the odds against Ben seem insurmountable.
As the threat of a massive bioterrorist attack looms large, Ben and his team race to rebuild their case and rescue the box. To succeed, he’ll need all his wits and resources and Dr. Ivanovsky’s specialized knowledge—and both men will need to trust in a higher power.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews
The story is exciting from the first page, and I found myself staying up late so that I could read ¿just a few more pages.¿ The story line, involving a mysterious safe-deposit box, a legal battle, and bioterrorism, seems chillingly possible. I also enjoyed the author¿s character development: Ben Corbin is the young, struggling lawyer who is trying to do the right thing and faces increasingly terrifying situations. Two other characters that provide additional depth and plot twists are the private investigator Ben hires, a former FBI agent named Sergei Spassky, and the opposing attorney, Tony Simeon. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
I found this book insightful into the legal world, as well as, a grippy thriller. But with a twist, an ethical Lawyer, do we really exist. The author portrays his characters with ease of understanding and description. An individual outside the legal world has no difficulty understanding and following the plot and biological threats made. The biological scare is so genuine that it compels you to keep reading. Let's hope that it stays fiction.
