About the Author

Steven L.Cohn, MD, MACP, SFHM, FRCP isProfessor Emeritus at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine wherehe was previously the Medical Director of the UHealth Preoperative AssessmentCenter (UPAC) and the Medical Consultation Service at Jackson MemorialHospital. Prior to that, he was the Chief of the Division of General InternalMedicine and Associate Medical Director for Quality Improvement at SUNYDownstate where he is also Clinical Professor of Medicine Emeritus, and he wasthe Director of the Preoperative Clinic and Medical Consultation Service atKings County Hospital. He was responsible for the education and supervision ofmore than 1100 senior medical residents and has evaluated over 30,000 patientspreoperatively. In 2017, he received the SHM Award for Excellence in Teaching.He is a master of the American Collegeof Physicians (MACP), senior fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SFHM),fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), and board member of theSociety for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI). Dr. Cohnis the author/editor of 4 books, over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and bookchapters, including the preoperative chapter in the 23rd-26theditions of Goldman-Cecil Textbook of Medicine, as well as multiple onlinetopics and modules for UpToDate and SHM Consults. He has given over 400 CMEpresentations, is widely recognized as an expert in the field of perioperative medicineand is often referred to as the “Godfather of Perioperative Medicine” by hiscolleagues.
