Quality writing. A story that emotes realism: angst, joy, sorry, pain, fear, love …. a whole gamut of emotions exceedingly well. Ms. Padgett takes the reader on a journey with characters going through painful, traumatic experiences, through to the joyful exuberance of romance. There certainly are gritty parts to this tale but they only showcase the realities of living in our world today. As unfortunate as these circumstances are, this reader learned a lot about the depth of pain that sometimes impacts people. Both the main male and female characters had their share of pain and sorrow. Ms. Padgett drilled right down to the bone to what impacts a person to their core. These types of circumstances cross the path of the main female character more than once in her lifetime, challenging her intestinal fortitude. Who knows the machinations (or who wants to know) of some people who appear to be destructive to those around them and target certain people with their evilness. It was very beautiful to watch the loving support family offered, not just during these events, but afterward as well. A very "meaty" novel that offers the reader plenty of hours of enjoyment! Thank you Ms. Padgett for the entertainment. This reader looks forward to reading many more of your novels! Highly recommended read. I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel via Booksprout and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to this author.

This is a great start to a new series, this is Camden and Jenna story he is a former Army Ranger who left the service after being injured and found music helped his recovery and is now a country and western singer, she builds custom guitars these two meet when he goes to her shop. The attraction between these two is immediate but she does not want to be in the spotlight and they both have some past issues that will cause them problems. This was a super read I really enjoyed it.

From Jean-Rall OMG I love this book so much. Two broken people that have gone through so much heartache, sadness and pain in there lives. The connection and chemistry between them is instant but they don't act on it for a while because they have both been burnt before. I definitely recommend this book it is well written and so emotional that I cried quite a few times. I have read a lot of Alexa's books and I have never been disappointed and I am so looking forward to the next book that she writes. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy Of This Book

She has trust issues and he has just took out his anger on his guitar! Scarred by the War in Iraq, Camden uses music to soothe his soul. He has a dysfunctional family that is trying. When he presents Jenna with the task of making him a guitar in a time frame that is impossible to achieve, she takes up the challenge and the man! As these two form a bond someone is trying to come between them. Will they succeed or will this solidify their relationship making them stronger? This is a story that gets to your heart and have you cheering for Camden and Jenna! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Loved this book!!! What will happen when two broken lost people find each other and fall in love is address in this book. It was a roller coaster of drama, angst, with touches of romance that reminded me of great soap opera which I couldn't put down till the final page. Cam and Jenna both been hurt by the media and ex's but find that inner strength each gives to each other, but Jenna past threatens the budding romance and Cam's musical career. Does Cam choose love over career? Love the supporting characters - Pop-pop, Kate and the rest. I volunteer to read and review this ARC

Jenna Olsen has worked with her grandfather for years to hone her craft of custom guitars. When Camden Grace, former Army Ranger and the latest country western rock star, visits her grandfather’s shop to order a custom guitar he is surprised to find that J. Olsen is Jenna…a woman. He is immediately attracted to her, somehow knowing that her past has left her cautious and unsure of herself. Jenna is curious about Cam, his past as a ranger and his life on tour as a country star. She prefers to stay out of the spotlight, but is intrigued by her feelings for him. When a former friend begins to threaten Jenna, Camden will do all that he can to protect her. Camden has other issues in his past that he will need to deal with after the death of his father. These two wounded souls will try to forge a new future and put the past to rest. I thoroughly enjoyed this romance with tones of suspense as they try to remove the threat from Jenna’s life. I look forward to the next book in the series and liked the way Ms. Padgett made her characters so genuine and slightly flawed. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Wow what a book it so emotional, I was gripped from the beginning. Jenna was so unlucky in love until she meets Camden Grace a sexy singer who needs Jenna to make him a new guitar as he smashed his old one in a fit of grieve when his father dies. This is about to damaged people that find each other. It was so beautiful to watch them come together and help each other heal. As always in these stories there is someone that wants to hurt Jenna. This is also about learning to trust each other with their hearts. I’m not saying anymore except to say you are in for a real treat. To date I had only read the Cici Gurule mysteries, so this was my first romance from Alexa Padgett and I have to say I’m hooked.

I love starting out the new year with a new book series. This time it’s the new Austin After Dark series by Alexa Padgett titled Deep in the Heart. This series begins with Jenna, a small town girl with a talent for making custom guitars and a big time case of PTSD that keeps her close to her shop. When Ben, an old boyfriend, comes in making an unwelcome advance and some nasty accusations, Jenna is rescued by a stranger with a story of his own. Camden Grace, the country star that everyone loves, the one that your mother warned you about, right there in her shop. And he wants a guitar made by Jenna. Things get interesting when these two start working together. Is it just a business deal? And what’s with Ben anyways? Can Jenna keep her past from ruining her future?
