Overview

Deep Time (Star Carrier Series #6) by Ian Douglas

The clock is ticking in the struggle for galactic independence

Once rebels themselves facing off against the Earth Confederation, the United States of North America is now the dominant force in negotiations with the interstellar Sh'daar Collective. But just as the Marines root out the last violent dissenters, an alien ship of unknown origin suddenly flees Earth's orbit. Is it mere coincidence . . . or a terrifying omen?

President Alexander Koenig watches with great interest as USNA forces chase the runaways down. But upon first contact, it's not apparent where—or when—the crew is headed. For this bizarre species has somehow mastered the power to manipulate time itself. Now Koenig must decide whether he's dealing with angels of astonishing technological prowess . . . or the agents of humanity's destruction.

As good as his other star carrier books. No new or fancy writing style but entertaining.

Interesting ideas about alien like form, has the politics of government about right.

The Ian Douglas series starts out well with the first one or two books, but then goes downhill with succeeding books with too much back story and unnecessary history for a new reader in an attempt to bring him up to speed if they haven,t read the preceeding books. About 30% of the these books is new material. You can skip 3 or 4 pages and not miss a thing.

I love that the book is based on real science and not the fake Star Trek kind. The aliens are alien and don't look like humans, let alone think or react like us. Brilliant!

Right amount of everything, even more action wouldn't go amiss but I greatly enjoyed the book and following through this series. Keep it up!
