Love is a life-and-death risk for the Mountain Mercenaries in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s explosive series of alpha heroes, hot action, and hard passion…

Ever since his rescue op off the Pacific Coast, Mountain Mercenary Gray Rogers hasn’t been able to forget his latest “job”—Allye Martin. Any other woman would have panicked during a rescue, but the wily dancer kept her cool—even after being kidnapped by an elusive human trafficker. And Gray couldn’t be happier when a grateful Allye follows him home to Colorado Springs…

For Allye, finding sanctuary in the arms—and bed—of the former Navy SEAL is only temporary. People are disappearing off the streets of San Francisco, victims of the same underground trade that targeted her, and Allye could be the key to dismantling the entire operation. She’s willing to do anything to bring them down. Gray isn’t—for good reason. But you don’t say no to a tough girl like Allye who refuses to play it safe.

Now Gray is risking more than ever before. The Mountain Mercenaries have his back. But is it enough to keep the woman he loves out of harm’s way?

4 Star Review of Defending Allye (Mountain Mercenaries #1) by Susan Stoker This is the first book in an exciting new series and Susan Stoker is off to a good start. When dancer Allye Martin is kidnapped by a human trafficker she manages to keep calm and wait for rescue. Gray Rogers and his Mountain Mercenaries rescue her and she follows him back to Colorado Springs to thank him an hand over some vital evidence she smuggles out that may help them. Allye may well hold to key to shutting the traffickers down but can Gray keep her safe? The chemistry between Allye and Grey was strong and their relationship grew quickly. Allye is determined to offer herself as bait if it means the people she cares about will be safe, but at what cost? Will danger pull these two apart or will they work together to destroy those who are trying to keep them apart? Defending Allye was filled with mystery, suspense and danger and I look forward to reading more in the series,

Suspense and excitement from the outset, powerful story with action and love. Gray is strong and trustworthy, a real knight in shining army or wetsuit as the case may be, saving an unexpected damsel in distress. Allye is normally independent and very self sufficient because she has had to be, being kidnapped to some degree doesn't phase her. Many of the things that happen in this story are worrying and even a little stomach churning, scary to think that there are possibly people out in the world for real mad enough to actually do some of them, or at the very least the sex trafficking and treating woman and kids as their own personal sex slaves. But it happens, so reading a story like this really highlights that subject matter enough to make you think. This is book one in a new series and boy what a first book it is, I cant wait to see what we get in the rest of it. I have loved everything that this author has written, she is one author I always one click and pre order. I myself found some of the content in a bit upsetting in the being a woman and the abuse suffered kind of way, it is disturbing even if it is just fiction, I would hate for anyone to go through what some of these do. At the same time it held my attention and interest, I loved Gray's protective and very alpha persona and behaviour, while Allye stood her ground in some ways but in others was putty in his hands. Their connection and the love that sparked out of something so horrible, the bond that builds with the others in the team as well is really nice. Despite the scary stuff this story is great reading and a fabulous start to a new series.

This is book one in the Mountain Mercenaries series and it features Gray and Allye. What they went through together in the beginning had me on pins and needles and the story only got better from there. It was as if they were written in the stars. Compatible in every way, even in the bedroom. Steamy! My heart broke for all that she went through as a child. Fabulous story with equally fabulous characters. I can’t wait to read the stories of the rest of the Mountain Mercenaries. Great first book in a series!

Emotionally thrilling, sexy, engaging, action packed romantic adventure filled with danger, mystery and undeniable passion.... could not put it down. Gray Rogers and Allye Martin are both very smart, strong and courageous individuals with the common goal of taking down the bad guys.... This is a highly entertaining and exciting summer afternoon read that was perfect for relaxing in the backyard with a cold drink.

The Mountain Mercenaries series begins with a rescue mission that brings together a down-to-earth dancer and hardcore Navy SEAL turned mercenary. Susan Stoker's Defending Allye is a wonderful romantic suspense that is both charming and full of the sexiest alpha heroes. There's mystery surrounding the founder of the Mountain Mercenaries, but the seven men working together to protect women and children are as honorable as they come. When Gray rescues Allye, a connection is forged that sees them both through trauma and the discovery of true love. I love that Stoker creates a story with action and suspense, but also a lovey-dovey romance that touches the heart. The passion between Allye and Gray despite how short the time they've known each other really heats up the story and makes you want to stay in their world far after it ends! This is going to be an amazing series. It's one that I'll be watching for new releases because each story will no doubt shed light on this incredible team and their enigmatic leader. It's safe to say that I want more, more, more! Defending Allye is perfect of fans of *ARC provided in consideration for review*

Kicking off her new series, Mountain Mercenaries, Susan Stoker has started with a bang. Defending Allye was a fantastic read full of action, hot men and sweet romance. Ms. Stoker has a way of writing the hero that every reader wants for a book boyfriend and a BFF of the leading lady. Bottom line. Read this book.

I Can't Wait To Read More Of This Series. Grayson “Gray” Rogers has a boss that reminds me of Charles Townsend. He also gives me my first and second shiver moments. But with the second I have to add an “oh gawd! Plus I had to close my eyes because it was not hard to picture the scene as it played out. Allye Martin is in a very sticky situation. Their first meeting was perfect because it shows the type of man Gray is and that Allye’s not some “dumb blond” character. From there the story got addicting and very difficult to put down. I liked where this story was going so I can’t wait to see what the author’s plans for the rest of the series are going to be. Each scene seemed to connect to the next, which made everything progress nicely. Nothing felt rushed or out of place. There’s a lot of emotion here and at times it may practically scream at you. Speaking of screams, my next shiver moment is when our “villain” lets us see him. As you get to know him you’ll realize how creepy he really is. My shiver moments may be triggers for some of you. Especially when you see the violence and what treatment some of the characters receive. Because of the way the author treated this, I ended up having to read this in one sitting. If you do take a chance and read this you may end up with a smile on your face like me when you see how the author treats the ending. And speaking of treats, the ending will give you hints as to the next book in the Mountain Mercenaries series. I’m so ready for book two but not sure if I can wait until December though. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This is my first Susan Stoker book and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Grayson “Gray” Rogers jaded by a deployment gone bad now a former Navy Seal, working for the Mountain Mercenaries. His mission is to find and stop the man/group who is kidnapping women for sex trafficking. Allye Martin abandoned by her mother and in and out of foster homes believes karma is against her. She works hard and is a kind and helpful person but things always go wrong. Now she is kidnapped off the street and taken to a boat and held prisoner by some seriously bad men. Gray never thought the missing woman would be on the boat they were it intercept. Gray is a hot alpha male with a soft underbelly, Allye is a strong and solid woman with a past that would make many people crumble but she made the best of what she had. Gray and Allye form a bond in the hours after her rescue, when they go their separate ways neither can stop thinking of the other. Uncertainty keeps them from contacting each other until Allye needs help. Can Gray keep her safe or will she fall into the hands of a psycho?

5 Stars Review by Nancy Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Enticing and captivating, Defending Allye is the first book in the Mountain Mercenaries series by Susan Stoker. This book pulled me in from the beginning and kept me wanting more. Mountain Mercenary, Gary, and Allye meet by chance, Gary was not expecting to find a kidnapped victim on his latest rescue op. After spending some time with Allye, while waiting to be rescued, he realized she wasn’t like most women he had met. She kept her composure, she didn’t completely lose her mind after being kidnapped. Something about her called to him, but she was just a job, another victim he had rescued, after making sure she was safe he had to walk away. The only problem with walking away was that she was constantly on his mind, and it seemed she was now right in the middle of the human trafficking circle the mercenaries were trying to bring down. Allye always thought karma hated her, no matter how much good she did, she always ended up with the short end of the stick. This time was no exception, she had caught the eye of a very bad man. Worried she’d be kidnapped once again Allye reached out to the Mercenaries for help. One thing led to another and she found herself in the arms of Gary. Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan, neither was being kidnaped a second time but once again Allye found herself in need of a rescuer, and Gary was not about to let anything happen to the woman he was in love with. He was going to take down whoever stood in his way, no matter what it took in order to get his girl back safe and sound. Defending Allye was phenomenal, a suspense filled love story. One that opened the gates to what is to be an amazing series. I can’t wait to see what else Ms. Stoker has in store for us.

3.75 stars--DEFENDING ALLEY is the first instalment in Susan Stoker’s contemporary, adult MOUNTAIN MERCENARIES erotic, romantic, military, suspense series focusing on a group of six former soldiers and Navy SEALS who call themselves Mountain Mercenaries, headed by the mysterious ‘Rex’. This is thirty-six year old, former Navy SEAL Grayson Rogers, and twenty-nine year old, dancer Allye Martin’s story line. The Mountain Mercenaries is a spin off from the author’s Ace Security series but you do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the current timeline. The Mountain Mercenaries were first introduced in CLAIMING FELICITY (Ace Security 4). NOTE: DEFENDING ALLYE contains scenes of abuse, torture and threats of a sexual nature, and may not be suitable for all readers. Told from several third person perspectives including Allye and Gray DEFENDING ALLYE focuses on the hunt for a kidnapper in the San Francisco area, and the person responsible for a suspected human trafficking ring. Grayson Rogers and his fellow Mountain Mercenaries have been handpicked for their current roles by the mysterious, and as yet unidentified, team leader ‘Rex’. Hoping to intercept the hand-off of money, Grayson discovers more than he had bargained for when he finds Allye Martin instead. A quick take-down of the kidnappers, a struggle out at sea, and the rescue of our story line heroine, finds Allye falling for Grayson but not before she reveals she has information that may be important to the team’s investigation. What ensues is the quick building romance between Allye and Gray, and the potential fall-out as a number of women are kidnapped and killed in an effort to draw Allye out into the light. Grayson Rogers knows lost first hand when his entire team of Navy SEALs was killed leaving our hero the only one to survive. Memories, of the horrific ordeal including the murder of his friends, have forced Gray into an over protective male where it concerns the woman with whom he is falling love. Never again wanting to lose anyone close, or witness the death of someone he loves, Gray struggles with Allye’s demands and need to place herself in harm’s way. The relationship between Allye and Grayson is quick to develop. From hours alone at sea, to finding herself ‘living’ with the man that calls to her heart, Allye knows that Grayson will protect her against the odds, but Grayson battles between memories of the past, and his ability to stop the woman he loves from becoming a willing target in an effort to catch the bad guy. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are introduced to Grayson’s fellow Mountain Mercenaries: Ronan ‘Ro’ Cross, Lowell ‘Black’ Lockard, Meat, Arrow, and Ball. Ronan and Chloe Harris’ story is next in Defending Chloe. DEFENDING ALLYE is a story of action, suspense, romance and love. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the romance is passionate and intense; the characters are colorful, dynamic and animated but the heroine’s need to place herself in danger to ‘save’ a friend and other potential victims screams TSTL (too stupid to live), incredibly destructive and ill-fated. DEFENDING ALLYE is a sexy, intriguing and fated introductory story line in Susan Stoker’s new Mountain Mercenaries series.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author. (netgalley)I enjoyed this book and was happy to get a new series with the Mountain Mercenaries!!! We had gotten introduced to them in the last series she had (Ace Securities) and I enjoyed that series too, no you do not need to read it it was a just comment because I like Susan Stoker and I like reading her series hope you will to. In this one we get to meet Gray who is on a mission to find out who are the ones responsible for human trafficking and stop them. On one of his missions he ends up saving Allye, and he was surprised by her she was strong, funny, beautiful and composed considering how he found her. They are attracted to each other but didn't want to act on it since they live in 2 different states and with 2 different goals. Allye remembers something she needs to give the Mountain Mercenary to assist them with their mission and also since she feels she is being watched, when she gets to the guys her life and his will change because their attraction is strong to hold back. We have more problems that arise but with each other and the group they will be able to overcome..I can't wait to the next one...Thanks Susan for an enjoyable book! Enjoy my friends.

This is a fantastic action packed romantic suspense that kicks off a new series from this author. Amazing characters, a fast pace to the story and superb writing make this a book not to be missed. The men of Mountain Mercenaries are highly skilled and determined to protect the innocent from danger. When a prominent San Francisco dancer, Allye Martin, becomes the obsession of a very powerful and dangerous man he has her kidnapped to be delivered to him. That's when Gray Rogers and Mountain Mercenaries get involved. Gray rescues Allye and he knows immediately there is something different about this woman. He can't get her out of his head or his heart. When it becomes clear that the threat of danger is not over Gray knows that protecting Allye has now taken on a whole new meaning. I definitely recommend this one.

This author knows how to write a story that’s filled with suspense, steam, some humour that had me laughing out loud, perfect banter between the characters w/o missing a beat, a hot alpha man and a strong woman, that’s the perfect match for the man. This is one of those reads where I couldn’t decide who I loved more, the hero, Gray, or the heroine, Allye. Both were equal in courage, strength, attitude, wow wowza !! An emotionally intense read at times and the water scene right at the beginning felt like I was floating right alongside with them as the images and feelings described were spot on. The story flowed beautifully, the main characters were one of a kind, the secondary characters were yummy, the plot was perfect as was the ending. This is one of those reads I don’t want to give anything away as it is a story that needs to be read going in blind to get the full effect. If you love suspense, action, steam, strong vulnerable characters, and a story that will be very very very hard to put....I highly recommend this read !!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*

Susan Stoker is amazing Every time I read a Susan Stoker book I think it is her best yet. So wrong. Defending Allye is amazing. This book will grab hold of you and take you on an emotionally wild ride. It is a great start to her new Mountain Mercenaries series. If you want to live out an adventure while reading a book, choose Defending Allye.

Grayson is one tough dude. We find this out when he rescues Allye the first time from a really bad situation, but his softer side is pretty spectacular too. Grayson and his team from the Mountain Mercenaries are working to put down a group that is lower than pond scum and twice as slimy, in a nasty rot in hades type of way. When I was reading this book it brought out some pretty strong feelings and made me want certain scum to die horrible deaths. Susan Stoker books are a little more suspenseful and graphic than some, so prepare yourself. There may be bouts of tears or moments when you want to see justice done in an extreme manner, but if you like books that keep you on the edge of your seat, then here it is.

This is the first book in the Mountain Mercenaries series that was introduced in the last book of the Ace Security series. This one is about Gray Rogers and Allye Martin. Gray is a mercenary that was hired by Rex after he saw some horrible things happen while he was enlisted. He is sent out on a mission to intercept a payment for a sex slave never expecting that she is already onboard. Allye is a dancer that was kidnapped right off the street on her way home. She manages to keep her cool even when she realizes exactly what is going to happen to her all the way through to her rescue. After being rescued neither expect to see each other again. Even though they both think about the other often and can't seem to get the other person out of their head. But all of that changes when she thinks she is being followed and she contacts Gray's boss asking for help. Neither understand exactly what her going to Colorado Springs for protection will truly push into motion though or how much it will change their lives. I absolutely loved this book!! All of this author's characters have such strength but this one is even beyond what I was expecting! Allye goes through something no one should have to go through and is rescued before the truly horrific can happen. But through it all she keeps her head and manages to think about what she can do to help herself and her rescuer! Gray is a man who saw some hellish things while overseas and still sees the worst of humanity, but he has been given a chance to be able to do the right thing. Even if it's outside of the law. They both have issues from their past's but in the end they manage to work through those issues and become the strong couple you know they truly can be. Even when the worst happens, they still manage to be happy and healthy together. I loved every minute of it!

I really liked the connection between Allye and Gray. From the moment they first met, there was something familiar with them. The more they got to know each other, the more comfortable they became with each other. The fact that their lives were nearly completely opposite didn't factor into the growing feelings between them. The bad guy was so bad, he was truly scary. The fight against him could only end up one way, and justice was served. An action packed romance from the first chapter that had me invested in the story and the characters from the start!

Defending Allye is Book One in Susan Stoker's new Mountain Mercenaries series. Even though this series appears to be a spin-off from an earlier series, it stands perfectly fine on its own. I can attest to that as this is the first book I have read by this author and was able to follow along just fine. I do plan to go back and check out the Ace Security series, however. This book was jam-packed right from start with lots of action, drama, and suspense. Good character development and a very intriguing plot kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The villain was a disturbed creep so be forewarned. This was a nice start to a new series and a new to me author that I certainly have not read the last of.

Awesome start to a new series. Already hooked. If I had to complain about anything it was the chapter lengths. Some were short while others seemed long with a lot meshed in them.

I've read a few other of this author's books, and enjoyed them, so I was looking forward to actually starting this new series from book 1, and not feeling so far behind! She's quite prolific, and I'm glad I'm finally getting in on a series from the very beginning! Gray Rogers used to be a Navy SEAL, and now he's an accountant in Colorado Springs. But, on the side, he works for a mysterious man named Rex, as a Mountain Mercenary. They take missions planned out by Rex to rescue people who need it, and kill people who need it. Mostly involving sex trafficking. Gray was searching for purpose after leaving the Navy, and was struggling to find it, until Rex found him. The guys who work with him are all former military too, and though none of them have ever met Rex in person, they trust him, and each other. They love each other as brothers now, and always know they have each other's backs, no matter what. So, when out on a mission, Gray rescues Allye, and realizes that nothing about her is the same as other jobs he's worked, he trusts the guys to help him out in keeping her safe. Allye Martin is a professional dancer in San Francisco. She grew up with a mother who never loved her and she was on her own very young. She's made her way in the world with no one to care about her, and no one she really cared about, beyond casual friendships. Karma has had it out for her from the start, as she sees it, and no good deed she's EVER done has gone unpunished. So, when she's snatched off the street one night on her way home from work, and thinks she'll never make it out, she's shocked when Gray shows up to rescue her. No one has ever really been there for her before, and she can't believe it when Gray seems to genuinely care about her, and what happens to her. Gray and Allye had chemistry from the first, but their meeting was quite inopportune for such a connection. So, they both tried to ignore it, but of course, they couldn't do that for long. I love how honest they both were with each other, and how their connection made them feel safe enough to be so honest. Allye had a rough go at life, while Gray had a great family. He suffered through some horrendous things in his service overseas, and she's never really been subjected to such things. But, they still managed to be there for each other and understand each other's needs. The villain in the story was particularly heinous, and reading some things from his point of view was, to be honest, kind of sickening. But, it made you really understand what a monster he was, and to know what our heroes were up against. It was really hard and sad watching Gray and Allye disagree on how they were going to approach the problem, and it felt like it physically hurt me how that whole thing went. They both had scars on their hearts they'd never fully dealt with, and it led them to say and do some hurtful things, but I love how they always came through for each other. All the side characters, Gray's teammates, were very intriguing, and I'm looking forward to reading about them all in the future. Ro's little snippet in the epilogue makes me very excited for his story next! I definitely recommend this story for all the romantic suspense lovers, like me! Highly enjoyable.

Amazing start to this new series! Gray & Allye are perfect for each other! I love them together! From their hot and sexy times to the support and strength they give to each other. Allye is smart, sassy, fearless and strong; I love that in a heroine! Gray is a strong, sexy bada$$ former SEAL and lucky for Allye he is now a Mercenary whose team rescues people from bad situations. He rescues her from that boat to hell she was on and their time together to get to safety becomes something neither of them can forget. But that is just the beginning of Allye’s nightmare. Seems she is the object of the bad guy’s obsession and he won’t stop until he gets her again. The villain in this story is such a sick bastard. I wanted to pluck his eyeballs out and feed them to him among other things. This story is so good and so well written! And has an awesome and rewarding HEA. I am really looking forward to the rest of the guys in Mountain Mercenaries finding their HEAs!! They seem like a great bunch of guys! Especially Ro who from the epilogue looks like he is up next!

Defending Allye is the first in a new romantic suspense series with a bunch of vigilante veterans (but Mountain Mercenaries sounds better). I really enjoyed Allye she is gifted, smart and tough as hell. I like that Gray fell despite himself. And I absolutely love that these guys are like Charlies Angels in reverse. I am so looking forward to these guys falling in love.

Grayson Rogers from the Mountain Mercenaries is sent on a mission to gather information on a human trafficking business. On that mission he rescues Allye who was just kidnapped. When the man who purchased her isn't willing to stop going after her, Gray and his fellow mercenaries work diligently to bring this guy down. Our main characters, Gray and Allye are what really made this story for me. Despite Gray's toughness, he was incredibly sweet to Allye. That is almost the perfect combination in character traits for me with a hero. Add in that Allye was such a strong character herself, and these two have become one of my favorite couples. I will caution that this has some very disturbing scenes. This is about human trafficking and the villain of the story is a disturbed individual. If you can handle that, this story was really good and I highly recommend it.

LOVED this book!!! The Mountain Mercenaries is another winning series by one of my favorite authors. This novel has Gray rescuing Allye from a human trafficer - only she was specifically purchased to become the "pet" of a psychopath. When Gray rescues her, they form a tight connection, but that connection is put to the test when the psychopath takes drastic steps to get Allye's attention. I loved the characters in this novel. I particularly liked the back story on the characters. The author made them feel real and with depth. She made me care about them and feel invested in their story. I was literally flipping pages just as quickly as possible. This one is a must read for fans of the genre. The author is on my must read authors' list.
