Desert Jewels

Twelve-year-old Emi Katayama is half Japanese, but she is all American. Then Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, and she suddenly becomes the enemy. Follow Emi from her life in California before Pearl Harbor, through months of living in a horse stall at Tanforan Racetrack, and into the Utah desert to the dust storms and barbed wire fences at the Topaz War Relocation Center.
