Destiny's Warriors The Black Shadow of Death
R.M. Putnam and M. W. Valadez enjoy writing about fantasy, magic and myth for mature readers. They wanted to take this book down a different path from the previous books. In real life, the hero does not always win or make the best choice. Moreover, everyone has an evil streak, for the most part suppressed. R.M. Putnam went into her "what if " mode and joined in collaboration with M.W. Valadez. Both felt curious to see the dark side of the most loyal, honorable and the wisest character. In addition, they became curious as to the ancestors of Destiny's Warriors' characters, bringing conflict from the past to the story's present. This tale is a Fantasy/Science Fiction adventure filled with unexpected plot twists, betrayal, lust, insanity and deceit, spiced with slavery and gladiator competitions, all surrounded by the evilest of magic and the shadow of death.

About the Author

Excerpt from D.W. The Black Shadow of Death - Book 4 in the series:

"I have studied the Book of Ages in obsessive detail and there is still much I do not understand. I know that it holds the key of mastering the uncertainty of Destiny's plan. I know that soon we must journey into the very fabric of reality to complete our quest for knowledge," replied Tristen.
Alarmed, Creighton's eyes widened. He said with a tone of fear, "Into reality! Tristen, that sounds like a perilous quest."

The above excerpt created by Michael W. Valadez made me recall a conversation he and I shared while exchanging ideas for our manuscript. I was surprised to hear that he too wrote under the same mind-frame as I did. We often seem to share an understanding for the story that simply helps us blend our thoughts, until we cannot really recall who wrote what.

We both feel the need to write to find out what will happen next. Neither of us uses an outline or predetermines how the story will end. We simply write, feeling pulled by the characters that make us feel as if the story is writing itself.

You will notice that I always refer to Destiny as a person writing the word with a capital letter as if it were a name or title. The fact is both Michael and I are Destiny within our Destiny's Warriors series because we are creating the destiny and fate of each character. That said, Tristen is in search of the very fabric of reality and wanting to master the uncertainty of Destiny's plan. When I read the exchange of dialogue between the characters, Tristen and Creighton, I realized that Tristen in fact did master the uncertainty of Destiny's plan and entered the fabric of reality.

In this story, Tristen wrote out his fate as Michael and I, simply allowed him the freedom to tell us his story.

The question now is who is really in charge as the tale continues? Moreover, what is reality and who is to define it from fantasy? Possibly, Michael and I only think we are the authors but are actually the fantasy written in as the characters, allowing us to tell the tale according to Destiny's Warriors; a curious and complicated idea to consider.
