Damien went after Alexa for all the wrong reasons. But what was so remarkable is he forgave her right away when he realized he was just totally wrong about her. And he set out to make the best of things, which was difficult do to, with his history. He really had no business taking a wife, but he did and he really did love Alexa deeply. It showed over and over again because he was willing to forgive some of her actions, understanding so much about how it is difficult to trust. And it is so important to understand how young Alexa was. How is such a young person able to really understand spying for ones country and how impossible a life like that can be. She just went on instinct and honor and at first she had it all wrong about Damien. But when he finally was honest with her it was still a challenge to believe. But over and over again this couple would put themselves into peril for each other and it was just so romantic and real. I cannot say enough about this book. I love to find books like this that you can truly get into such an emotional roller coaster ride of a story with lots of passion. And this was five stars and more!! I guess if you want your characters totally black and white with no shades of grey then perhaps Damien and Alexa are not your couple but to me they were what romance novels are all about! The plot of this book is fueled by revenge. Damien Falon seeks Alexa out to avenge the death of his brother Peter. He believes that Peter's unrequited love for Alexa is what caused his death. After "winning" a night with Alexa, Damien compromises her, but he ends up married to her instead. Later on, Damien realizes that Alexa was not responsible for his brother's death, as he assumed, but by then he has laid a horrible ground for mistrust between his young bride and himself. Kat Martin is one of my favorite authors. She always knows how to weave unique and heart quenching stories, that is why I have read a lot of her works. I have also enjoyed every single one of them including this one.

This is the third in the series. I was a little disappointed with alexa. She was always so unsure and made huge mistakes. The second in the series is the best. This book was good but that great.

Almost 300 pages. Way to much sex for me. Will try one more of kat martin books. If its the same i will not ready any more of her books. Her stories are very good and could be better with alot less sex. I like some sex but not as much as this book has and GYPSY LORD also.

I like other Kat Martin novels, but this one had me scratching my head for several reasons. For one thing, some of the language of the characters was historically inaccurate. At one point, the hero says to himself, "Who was he kidding?" Ms. Martin, I REALLY doubt that an 18th or 19th century English or French gentleman used the word "kidding" even if he was just thinking it! And the plot twists were so convoluted as to possibly cause a hernia! The death of the hero's brother is the overriding theme of the first part of the book, and then it just disappears with only a brief reference or two in the last half of the book. Neither the hero nor the heroine were particularly likable and so it was a little difficult to care about the ultimate outcome--this being a historical romance, it was not hard to figure out! Sorry, but this was not a very terrific book.
