Wilhelm Friedemann (1710–84), der Liebling des Vaters, und Carl Philipp Emmanuel (1714–88) führten geistvoll Bachs Musik weiter; Johann Christoph Friedrich (1732–95) gab den Könner in der Provinz, und das Weltkind Johann Christian (1735–82) wurde vom jungen Mozart bewundert.
