Dog Girl

Lacey became interested in dog mushing when her second grade teacher introduced the IditaRead program. Each student chose a dog musher on the Iditarod—a 1,100 mile dog sled race in Alaska—and read one page for every mile their musher raced, attempting to beat him or her to the finish line.
By the end of the program Lacey was hooked on dog mushing. She announced to her parents that she wished to become a dog musher, to which they replied, “No.”
