I'm a huge Norse everything nerd. This story was perfect. Angela did an amazing job getting the mythology and folklore of Norway right (unlike some major comic brands, *cough* *cough*). You can definitely tell that I loved her world-building if you listen to the discussion on AVBC. I might have gone overboard a little. Angela doesn't pull her punches. This is definitely dark fantasy: some awful stuff happens. But there isn't any senseless violence. It all has a reason and is directly relevant to the story. There's no hacking of bodies just for funsies. Only for revenge or, if it's a villain, to manipulate a political situation or extract an important piece of information. There's a lot of foreshadowing of events that (I hope) will occur in future books in the series. I'm awaiting those tales with great anticipation.
