4.5 stars- This one starts with a bang and scarcely lets up off the gas for the entirety of the book. Considering how much I enjoyed this author duo’s previous romantic suspense series, picking up Double or Nothing was a no-brainer. Though this was a fairly different set-up from the Bad Behavior series, the story pulled me in just as quickly and I loved every minute of it. I always enjoy when opposites attract so the idea of a US Marshall on WitSec duty falling for a Mafia member and career criminal he’s charged with protecting sounded intriguing. I really enjoyed how Leo and Rich played off each other personality wise, and with this writing duo there’s the added fun of witty, fast-paced banter. The relationship between Leo and Rich evolved quickly but, given the circumstances, it did make sense and there was a palpable bond between the men that complemented their physical chemistry. The suspense, action, and dialogue maintained a fast pace cover to cover, making Double or Nothing difficult to put down and an easy book to recommend to fans of romantic suspense. Although the action-packed plot left less time to develop the relationship and character as fully as I’d like, I can’t deny that I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, writing, and story. Happily, even though Double or Nothing isn’t currently labeled as a series, there is a sequel reportedly in the works, which I promise is a VERY good thing. *eARC received from author.
