Overview

Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny by Holly Madison

Lost in Wonderland . . .

A fairy-tale dream that became a nightmare, and a woman whose strength helped her find a way out to the other side

At 21, small-town Oregon girl Holly Cullen became Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s number one girlfriend. But like Alice’s journey into Wonderland, Holly’s plunge down the rabbit hole took her to a world where all was not as it seemed. The fairy-tale life inside the Playboy Mansion—which included A-list celebrity parties and starring in a number one television show—quickly devolved into an oppressive routine of strict rules, manipulation, and battles with ambitious, backstabbing Bunnies that nearly drove Holly to take her own life.

Down the Rabbit Hole is her introspective account of her time inside the Mansion: the drugs, abuse, infamous parties, and Holly’s real behind-the-scenes life with Bridget, Kendra, and Mr. Playboy himself. It is also her chronicle of healing and hope. By telling her story, both a cautionary tale and a celebration of personal empowerment, Holly reminds us of the importance of fighting for our dreams—and of finding the life we deserve.

This book was a great read, congrats to Holly for her happy ending. The TV show painted a totally different story and it was nice to see further into what was going on behind the scenes.

Woman Scorned. There's always truth to be had even when covered with exaggerations and re-imaginings. For fans of Holly you'll read the first two chapters and be hooked at the life beyond the GND persona because at her heart she seems to be a decent and hard working woman. However, as you get into the chapters on Kendra especially you will clearly see that the motive is very High School Click'ish. But still, who doesn't like gossip right?

Great book! I bought it yesterday at her book sighing in Brooklyn. You have to actually read it before you start bashing and stating opinions and not facts. This book is not about her playing victim. This book is NOT a victim and poor me theme. That's makes me like it even more.

I really enjoyed this book and how ruthless she is.

I really enjoyed the book and barely put it down. I've always wondered about Holly and Bridget's story after reading Kendra's. I really hope Bridget comes out with a book soon.

After reading the sample I purchased the book. Very well written and hard to put down. Holly definately took her readers behind the gloomy cult-like walls of the infamous Playboy Mansion. What a down to earth women Holly is. All I can say, if Holly reads BN reviews of her book is Karma is a Bi**h where Crystal is concerned, she is definately earning her "pennies" being Mrs Hugh Hefner. She probably cries herself to sleep behind the musty walls of the Playboy Mansion every night while laying next to a insecure, self centered, contolling, wrinkled up old man. Holly I hope nothing but "Rainbows and Sunshine" for you and your loving family. You won the pot of gold.

She makes it sound like she was trapped there, based on what you all have told me. What did she expect from an old guy living with a bunch of barely legal girls? True love? And if she really hated it she would have left, and would have stopped associating with it, but she attends all of the events. What a joke.

I thought that this was an excellent book. Nowhere in this book does she try to make herself sound like a victom. Its funny that Kendra is bashing Holly for giving her own opinions but Kendra is the one who wrote her own book complaining about how she had to "sleep with Hef ". This is Holly's story and in my opinion she is a beautiful woman, wife and mother and certain people are jealous of her life!

Holly Madison gives a unique perspective of life inside of the Playboy Mansion, specifically the way " Hef" treated his girlfriends while she was a resident there. The cattiness and mean- girl drama that is to be expected from GND/ playboy does not disappoint. Not too many surprises . HORRIBLY written. I don' t recall having read a book with so many ( parentheses). Repetitive vocabulary....how many times can you use the word Organic? Just like GND, this is a guilty pleasure read.

It seems to me that Holly can't get her made up story straight. Everything in this book is a contradiction. She goes on and on about other mean girls and how horrible they treated her. But all she does throughout the entire book is make personal jabs at everyone she came in contact with. She says over and over again that she wanted to distance herself from Playboy, what does she do EVERY time there is an opportunity to be associated with the brand? Attend the event of course! I don't think that Hef is an angel but I think that anyone with half a brain could expect what being his girlfriend wound entail. She didn't think she would ever have sex with her boyfriend of 8 years? Her little Puffin?  Her tell all made her look like a money hungry, mean girl who is constantly the victim.

This book was surprisingly well written and kept me quite engaged. I am interested to watch GND with a new perspective to see the dynamics with new information of what may have been happening behind closed doors. Great read if you like the celebrity gossip - type of stuff.

This was a good read, I enjoyed Holly's story-more than Kendra's. Kendra capitalized on just being famous for nothing. Holly left on her own and worked to make something of herself! While I'm not convinced everything written is 100% accurate, I'm sure it is HER truth. I appreciated her point of view and am thinking about checking out her other book(s).

This book was entertaining and exciting. Very enjoyable read for anyone who grew up watching GND. It was a breath of fresh air and puts things in a different light that you may not expect.

Holy gives a tale of caution, at the same time a tale of self discovery and accomplishment. Her story shows how women who believe in themselves can accomplish anything in spite of the fact they can get caught in bad situations. Her focus and drive would have brought her far in life without Playboy. It makes you wonder how many women have been exploited over the years by Playboy and the Playboy brand. We need to value women for more than their bodies. There are truly amazing people out there. Holly is one. Great story, thank you for sharing.

I decided to read this again after Hef died. Gave it a respectful month after his death to reread it as she bashes him in it. Just as fun on the second go round!

Although I am a fan of Holly, this book actually gave me pause on several occasions. Be prepared to be enlightened in several ways. I learned a lot about a lot. I just think she really spoke harshly about several people. Those people may have had it coming, I don't know, just reminds me that you don't have to attend every argument/fight you are invited to.

Not great literature or even bombshell revelations, but not horrible.
