Overview

Dragonwatch: A Fablehaven Adventure (Dragonwatch Series #1) by Brandon Mull, Brandon Dorman

The dragons that have been kept in sanctuaries want their freedom—and their revenge—and the world’s only hope is the reformation of the ancient order of Dragonwatch in this New York Times bestselling first novel of a new sequel series to Fablehaven from author Brandon Mull.

In the hidden dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost, Celebrant the Just, King of the Dragons, plots his revenge. He has long seen the sanctuaries as prisons, and he wants nothing more than to overthrow his captors and return the world to the Age of Dragons, when he and his kind ruled and reigned without borders. The time has come to break free and reclaim his power.

No one person is capable of stopping Celebrant and his dragon horde. It will take the ancient order of Dragonwatch to gather again if there is any chance of saving the world from destruction. In ancient times, Dragonwatch was a group of wizards, enchantresses, dragon slayers, and others who originally confined the majority of dragons into sanctuaries. But nearly all of the original Dragonwatch members are gone, and so the wizard Agad reaches out to Grandpa Sorenson for help.

As Kendra and Seth confront this new danger, they must draw upon all their skills, talents, and knowledge as only they have the ability to function together as a powerful dragon tamer. Together they must battle against forces with superior supernatural powers and breathtaking magical abilities.

How will the epic dragon showdown end? Will dragons overthrow humans and change the world as we know it?

Jubaya chittered. "Demons and dragons have an ancient rivalry. If world domination is a game, the battle of Zzyzx created a major shift in the balance of power."

"What can the dragons do?" Kendra asked. "They went back to their sanctuary."

"Yes, they did," Jubaya agreed, "but armed with new power. Heed my words, Kendra Marie Sorenson. I have studied world events for many millennia. A new age of dragons is about to dawn, and there are few who will be ready or willing to stop them."

"You want to help me stop the dragons?" Kendra asked.

"Without the backing of the dragons, you would not have stopped the demons. Should you end up fighting the dragons, most demons will see you as an ally and view the fall of Gorgrog through more generous eyes."

"Why would I fight dragons?" Kendra had barely survived her brief stay at Wyrmroost, the dragon sanctuary. Some of the worst experiences of her life had happened there. Dragons were enormous and virtually unstoppable. The last thing she wanted to do was become their most wanted enemy.

Brandon is an excellent Author!! I've read all of the Fablehaven books at least 6 times and I just finished the first Dragon Sanctuary book!!! I'm sure I'll be reading this series more than a few times as well!! I would recommend these books to all ages!! I'm a 52 yr old female my husband is 50 and we are in love with these books!!!

This book was amazing! If you love Fablehaven or Five Kingdoms you will love this book! There are so many things I particularly enjoyed about this book. How Kendra and Seth both grow as characters, and how they grow closer as siblings as they face insurmountable odds and burdens they can only bear with their combined strength. I love how the story feels like a natural continuation of the original Fablehaven series, with the same wonderful feeling and storytelling, but it is not a complete rehash of the previous stories either. It subverted my expectations in so many ways. Dragonwatch is truly a unique story worth the read.

it was amazing how everything about it was ingenius, the way the characters fit in with each other, the way that the creativity of the dreamspace made my imagination start working but was incredibily fascinating.Brandon Mull is my hero to keep me occupied without going on my phone and in this day and age not many people can do that. I am afraid that i will be devastated when dragonwatch is over just like how i got devastated when fablehaven was over but thankfully Brandon Mull is here to make me entranced with another amaking series, 5 Kindoms, Beyonders , Candy Shop Wars, And now Dragonwatch.thank you Brandon Mull for helping me through some hard times in my life you truly are a miracle worker and hopefully you have some more amazing wonders in store for us but with your mind i trust that you do. At first I thought Brandon Mull would try too hard to make a sequel series to the hit Fablehaven series. I was happy to find out that it is not at all a copy of that series just said in a different way. It is a wonderful book and I can't wait to read more.

DRAGONWATCH was full of familiar characters for Fablehaven fans as well as some new ones, plus the danger and adventure you'd expect. An overall fun story for Middle Grade readers. I need to note that I have not read the Fablehaven series. My kids have and loved it. This is then my first foray into this mystical world of faries, witches, dragons, and many other creatures. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have any issues with keeping the characters straight or with understanding the story. I'm sure if you read the Fablehaven series that this new story would have been even easier to fall into, but it isn't necessary. You could pick it up here, like me. I thought the characters were quite realistic to their ages. In some ways you'd think that Seth would have developed a little more humility or reserve when dealing with others, but it seems he feels like he deserves more regard. It is so accurate to his age (I have a son the same age). I also thought the dynamics between Seth and Kendra were spot on. There were a bunch of other characters that also played roles here and there. The story had a little adventure, some humor, and a dire situation to keep the reader engaged. I was expecting a little more tension or development when things were more intense, but otherwise the story was steady. In the end, was it what I wished for? This was a fun beginning to this break-off series that set up the coming conflict. I'm looking forward to finding out what these two siblings will face next. Content: Clean Source: Received a complimentary ARC from the publisher, which did not require a review nor affect it in any way.

It's too bad you couldn't hear the squeals of excitement our daughters let out when this book showed up on our doorstep! I'm sure there were many other such squeals at other houses when this book came out last week. I know that our kids (okay, and me too!) have been waiting for this book to come out ever since it was announced that Brandon Mull would be writing a sequel series to his beloved Fablehaven series. I will admit that I can't wait to introduce our little guy to these books in a few years, and bonus - I get to read them again myself! Anyway...back to Dragonwatch! I loved the way that as this book opened, I was immediately transported back to the world of Fablehaven. Seth, Kendra, their family and friends, and all of the magical creatures are just the same. And, of course, there are new characters to learn to love. I loved the way that Kendra and Seth work together in this one. Seth is not really known for thinking before he acts and Kendra thinks probably too much, but working together they really are amazing in this one! I enjoyed the parts where Seth tricks his younger cousin, Knox, into doing things that benefit him. Those parts are just so...Seth! I loved the parts where they talk to the dragon Celebrant both together and later in the book where Kendra has to work hard to be able to do it herself. Love the way she's able to grow throughout this book. The ending is kind of a cliffhanger...of course! And I'm super excited for more books to come. I can't wait to see how things turn out for Kendra and Seth!

I love being able to dive into new adventures with Kendra and Seth! Dragonwatch did not disappoint! I enjoyed it from start to finish and couldn't put it down.

A decent start to this series. The biggest reason that this wasn't 5 stars is that it felt like it would be a touch rough for readers who hadn't read Fablehaven. Also, it felt like Seth's attitude and recklessness as a major plot point is starting to wear thin. In summary, it's another great book by Mr. Mull and definitely worth taking a look at, but if you haven't read Fablehaven yet then you should start there. Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. Thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull! I absolutely love the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull and Dragonwatch is a continuation of that series, so I was excited to dive right in and devour the book! The prologue is told in the grandfather's point of view. The story is told in alternating points of view with each chapter, taking turns between Kendra and Seth, the grandkids. Seth is a shadow charmer. Kendra is fairykind. The two siblings can charm dragons as long as they are together. Because of this, they have been asked to be caretakers of a dragon sanctuary, Wyrmroost. They are charged with finding a scepter that will help keep the sanctuary safe and, on their ques,t they run into many interesting creatures: dire bears, a troll and a very old dragon whose help they need. They work together well and it seems that Seth has become a bit wiser. It sure is nice to be back in the world of Fablehaven. 5 stars for this book that brings readers back to the adventurous Fablehaven life and I am looking forward to more books in this series!
