Drop Dead Chocolate (Donut Shop Mystery Series #7) by Jessica Beck

Drop Dead Chocolate

Jessica Beck

The whole town of April Springs is stirring over the upcoming mayoral election. Suzanne Hart's mother, for one, is dead-set on replacing the current mayor…and what better way for Momma to drum up support than by luring in voters with Suzanne's drop-dead-delicious donuts? Just add chocolate, and they're sure to kill the competition…

With Momma's half-baked campaign heating up faster than a donut shop deep fryer, Suzanne wonders if they've bitten off more than they can chew. But when Momma's opponent is brutally murdered, the odds of winning are suddenly, and suspiciously, in their favor. Sure, they'd been planning to beat the mayor—but with speeches and donuts, not a blunt instrument. If Suzanne hopes to reveal the killer's recipe for revenge, she'll have to uncover a plot that's darker than any chocolate…

Drop Dead Chocolate is a sinfully sweet addition to Jessica Beck's delicious Donut Shop Mystery Series.

this series about a donut baker and her friends is so intriguing. the characters are built to seem real, as does the village they live in. at the center is a murder, but then as the sluething begins you find that each one of the group has a special way of interpreting the clues. in this installment, the not so nice mayor with many secrets is the murderee. with so many suspects, (it seems most of the townspeople have reason to want him gone), the investigating is muddled. it all works out in the end. suzanne and emma will not be working together for a while, emma is going to go to college away from all her friends. a new mayor is elected, you will have to find that one out for yourself. a very good cozy read. next story due out in august, can't wait!

You know I really liked the way Jessica Beck is starting the development of the characters in this book. Dorothy is comfortable with dating, Grace has a boyfriend and Jake well he is starting to verbalize his feelings. I also shed a tear or two about Emma. Very good mystery and I laughed and cried at the same time. As usual I look forward to the next book!

The mayor has done it again and this time Suzanne’s mother decides to throw her hat in the ring in the hopes of unseating him. That becomes moot when Suzanne finds the mayor’s dead body. When her mother becomes a prime suspect, Suzanne searches for clues to clear her mother’s name and reputation and bring a killer to justice. This was a great read with a good plot that kept me guessing throughout most of the story. Suzanne is at her best as she collects the clues and when she is threatened, she knows she is close to exposing a killer. The familiar people are back to lend a hand such as Jake, Grace, George, and Emma. Changes are afoot for some of the residents that let me pleasantly surprised. We got a sneak peek at the next book in this entertaining series and I can’t wait to read it.

Nightmare Rarity hit the floor hard, but she didnt care. It caused the spell to break, and her escape plan was no longer needed. Suddenly Celestia shot a spell at her, but Rarity thought fast. She blasted a protection spell around her, sending Celestias spell bouncing back. The spell turned Celestia to stone, and Luna fled the room carrying Spike, fearing they were next." Im- Im more powerful than Celestia! More clever, at least." Rarity cackled. Blowing a hole in the wall with her magic, she flew away.
meanwhile...
" Spike, why in the world did you come here?" Luna scolded. Spike looked at the ground." I-I thought Rarity was dead or somthing..." he muttered. Luna shook her head." Oh, well. What has been done cant be undone. Not this at least."
meanwhile...
" We have to find Spike!" Twilight said. Rainbow nodded, but Apple Jack disagreed." Luna and Celestia are in Canterlot. Theyll bring him back." Fluttershy started to back away, sensing a fight was coming on." Is Spike just not that important to you, AJ?" Twilight said angerly." Of course hes important to me!" Apple Jack argued. Soon the two ponies were fighting like worst enimies." Cant you just use that fancy little horn of yours ta bring 'em back?" AJ yelled." STOP!!" Yelled Fluttershy, or, what Fluttershy calls a yell. They stopped. Pinkies hair suddenly poofed up again." Look!" She squeled, pointing in the distance. Luna was coming, bringing Spike with her. Soon she swooped in." Girls, i have some bad news and worse news. Which first?"
