It is always a nice surprise when something I am reading has a tie in to actual news or events that are happening in the present moment. I don't want to spoil a major plot secret, but the timing could not have been better. There are plenty of secrets involved in this book; characters who are not who or what they seem, including Anastasia Pollack's deep belief that her tenant/boyfriend, Zack, works for some agency represented by alphabet soup initials. There is also a lot of cash and flash bandied about. It is always more entertaining to read about the wealthy having problems. This book begins where the previous story left off, with our heroine recovering from an incident or violent encounter with her last "case." She doesn't invite trouble to visit her, but she never backs down. You can read and enjoy this book as a stand alone. Be prepared for a dysfunctional cast of quirky characters. It seems many show up when least expected or appreciated. And when you think some may have moved on to somewhere else.... Besides an interesting and entertaining mystery and lots of different family relationship entanglements, at the end of the book we are treated to varieties of simple ornaments to make in time for the upcoming holiday season or seasons.

DROP DEAD ORNAMENTS is my first book in the series. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it! While reading the first 6 books in the series would have fill in a few blanks for me, author Lois Winston did a great job of keeping me from feeling lost. I love protagonist Anastasia Pollack. She’s witty and funny, and she can be sarcastic at times. In many ways, we have all those things in common. The rest of the cast of characters were wonderful to get to know. Such an eclectic group. A great whodunit, with riotous twists and turns, DROP DEAD ORNAMENTS was a fast, exciting read that really keep me on my toes. I’m going back and starting the series from the first book. I don’t want to miss a word of this amazing series.
