Wow. I have been reading this series in order and waiting for Jamie and Katie's story to be told. I have enjoyed them since they were first introduced and their story did not disappoint. This was just one more story in the series that tugged on my heartstrings and brought tears to my eyes but also gave me some laughs. These characters are real and the situations they go trough are real and readers can relate to them. Her characters become like old friends that you want to know more about. I won't know what to do with myself when this series ends.

This book was even better than I expected!  Jamie is such a great guy, and Katie finally comes home to give him the love  he's been waiting for.  Their story is definitely a must read...I love all the Portland Storm books!

This was the story I've been waiting for since Jamie "Babs" Babcock was introduced in the very first Portland Storm book. He is such a sweetheart and his love for Katie Weber has remained true for years, even as she went off the Hollywood to follow her dream. This was an emotional story and made me both laugh and cry. I can't say enough how much I love this book and this series!

Catherine Gayle writes from the heart (and aims for it) and she doesn't miss. Have tissues handy because those annoying onion cutting ninjas will following you around while reading this one. I have been waiting for Katie Weber and Jamie "Babs" Babcock's story since I first read Taking A Shot (Katie and Babs' date to her prom) so I was very excited to hear that Dropping Gloves was coming out. I was not disappointed at all. Babs continued to be the great guy he always has been and Katie has matured into a strong woman.  Having read the entire series thus far, I now know how difficult of a choice it was for Katie to leave Portland and go to Hollywood. If you are a fan of the series you know how hard it has been on Babs every time Katie came into town or any time he heard about her in the news, this book lets you into all the details of the stories he heard that angered him. You get to see that there was way more going on than it seemed. You also learn about how hard Hollywood was for Katie.  Katie decides that she is going to stick around the Portland area for a time early into the book and because of this she has a lot of occasions to run into Babs. When this happens she knows that she will never feel for anyone else the way she feels about Jamie. I thought their story was moving, fun, sexy, and so packed with heart. Babs love for Katie was so complete and you felt every time he hurt for her. This story was so much more than what I was hoping for when there time finally came.  I just have to say I also LOVED Webs in this story, he was so great and funny. :)

Dropping Gloves (Portland Storm #7) by Catherine Gayle Katie Weber broke Jamie Babcock’s heart when she left for Hollywood to follow her dream.  Now she is back in Portland, but Jamie is afraid to have his heart broken by her again. I have been anxiously awaiting Katie and Babs’ story, and I was not disappointed.  Heck I was crying only a few pages into the book.  I’m pretty sure that was a record for me. Babs had always been my favorite Portland Storm character.  In my opinion, you cannot get much better than Jamie Babcock. He is such a great guy; you want to see the best for him.  He was recently made team captain.  Everyone seems to believe in him but himself.  He has grown so much throughout this series. Plus, he is completely dedicated to Katie. Katie is a great heroine.  She is a cancer survivor who does not give up.  She is a strong individual that goes after her dreams but recognizes when her priorities change.   I love the cats in this story.  Blackbeard cracked me up.  I have a cat that used to like to sit on my shoulder as a kitten, so I could relate.  They made for some good comic relief. I appreciated that Katie’s father, David Webber (Webs), was trying to play matchmaker.  It was an interesting turn of events since Taking a Shot (book 2.5).  I thought it was great that a few characters from the new spin off series, Tulsa Thunderbirds, made an appearance in the story.  I cannot wait to read that series. Catherine Gayle did a phenomenal job with the plot.  She covers real-life issues and delivers it in a believable manner.   Dropping Gloves was a heartwarming story that made me feel just about every emotion possible.  This is a book has made it to my favorites.  A book I enjoyed so much I pretty sure I will reread multiple times. Now anyone who reads my reviews knows that I am an avid fan girl of Catherine Gayle's Portland Storm books.  I absolutely love hockey, so I appreciate a good book written around that theme.  But Catherine's books are so  much more than hockey romance.  They are intensely emotional stories about real people.  There is none of the "celebrity diva" attitude with the players, being down to earth people with real issues, real struggles.  There are times when I feel like Catherine is channeling my life with her stories because they often, in some way, mirror things that are going on in my own life and Dropping Gloves is no different. One of my favorite things about this series is the cast of characters that appears in each book, whether as the main characters in their own story or as supporting characters in another's.  Catherine makes characters that we come to love and care about and we don't lose them or their stories as we move to a new book.  Some of them have been featured in their own books and we get little updates, while others may have yet to have their own books and we get glimpses of future stories.  It's an exciting way to create a world and I love it! From the first time we met Jamie "Babs" Babcock, I have been waiting for his story and now we have it!  He has been one of my favorite characters from day one, kind and considerate and fiercely loyal.  I loved the way he fit in with the other players and with their families.  I love a man who genuinely loves kids, something that is a big part of his character.  And then he fell for Katie Weber when her father was his teammate.  And no matter what happened to her, he was there for her.  But then life brought new opportunities to Katie and she left him before even truly giving them a chance together.  That was heartbreaking and it has been talked abut from time to time in subsequent books, building the anticipation for Dropping Gloves. Hollywood hasn't been what Katie thought it would be and her career hasn't gone the way she wants.  She just doesn't want to keep living the life her agent has been pushing her into.  So when Katie comes home from Hollywood to sing the national anthem for the team's "Hockey Fights Cancer" night, she is feeling at odds within her own life.  Changes need to be made and she knows it. This is a story of struggle and change and acceptance.  For Katie, it's about changing her life and being true to herself.  She has done some things she regrets and she is having a hard time forgiving herself for her own part in her victimization.  That feeling is something that I think all of us can relate to at some point or another.  She realizes just how much she cares about Jamie, but her inability to forgive herself makes her feel as if she just doesn't deserve someone as wonderful as him.  But, as if all of this wasn't enough, a personal tragedy in her life turns everything on edge.  And it turns me into an emotional mess! For Jamie, it begins as a struggle to accept that his time with Katie is over and that he needs to move on.  But then he sees her again and the struggle becomes even harder for him.  He's hurt and he doesn't entirely trust her with his heart, but he is still drawn to her and slowly those barriers come down.  I love that his character isn't scared off by dark times.  Instead, he embraces them and makes himself her rock when she needs it. My Recommendation:  This is a love story that is beautiful, but it isn't just the romantic love that is beautiful.  It is the love of family and friends, too.  It is emotional and intense and impossible to put down!

**An ARC was provided by the author for an honest review** Katie Weber and Jamie Babcock have always had a connection. When they first met several years ago, they were both still teenagers and with Katie being a minor, not to mention her father being a teammate of Babs for the Portland Storm, it was not the right time for either of them to start anything more than a friendship. When Katie was diagnosed with cancer, Babs was there as a friend while wishing he could be so much more as he watched the girl he loved going through such a battle. Then the great news that Katie was healthy came and then Katie went to chase her dreams in LA, leaving Babs in Portland to continue his hockey career and pine for the one girl he thought he’d never have a chance with. In Dropping Gloves, Katie returns to Portland to sing the national anthem at Hockey Fights Cancer night and she not only realizes she misses her family and the city she called home for so many years, but most importantly, she realizes she misses Jamie. She decides to stay, but the question becomes for how long? Jamie has missed her equally as much, but he’s not sure he can take having his heart trampled on again by the woman he loves with all of his heart when she leaves again – and he’s sure she’s going to leave again. After telling her how he feels, Katie has to make the decision about what she wants to follow, her dreams or her heart. Katie realizes she has to fight for what she wants with Jamie, all while fighting another difficult personal battle. It’s no secret that the Portland Storm series is one of my favorites and I don’t think it’s much of a secret either that Jamie (Babs) Babcock is one of the most beloved characters that Catherine Gayle has created. The would-be romance between Babs and Katie Weber that we’ve seen potential for over the last several books is one we’ve all been waiting a long time for and finally, the wait is over and what a fantastic ride it was! This book was emotional, sweet, raw and it also gives you hope – hope that love like this does exist and that the person you love will truly stand with you through anything. I adore Babs and most importantly I adore Babs and Katie together. This is a must read!

As readers, we fell in love with Babs (Jamie Babcock) in Breakaway, the first Portland Storm book. And while we fell in love with Babs, he was falling in love with Katie - and she with him.  Their love story has been YEARS in the making and the previous books in the Portland Storm series brought us that much closer to their happily ever after. And it's finally here in Dropping Gloves. I fell in love with Babs all over again in Dropping Gloves.  Jamie (Babs) had decided that he needed a clean break from Katie or he would never move on with his life - while she was deciding that Jamie was her future. But their wires didn't stay crossed long, as circumstances - and Webs (Katie's dad) - conspired to ensure Jamie and Katie had a chance to explore their HEA.  Over and over in Dropping Gloves, Jamie says "I may not be perfect, but I'm perfect for you." But I think Jamie IS perfect.  We have watched him mature in each of the Portland Storm books and the man he has become really does seem perfect. His role as a teammate, brother, son, friend, and boyfriend shows the depths of his personality and maturity.  But, make no mistake - he still can't cook anything that doesn't involve a toaster oven or a microwave - but we love him all the more for it. Jamie is perfect - and he's perfect for Katie. I hurt for Katie in this book.  I loved the innocent young girl that Jamie fell in love with; that suffered through cancer and went to prom with no hair; and that headed to Hollywood to follow her dreams. She didn't come back an innocent girl - and I hurt for her. She was put in circumstances at the hands of her agent that tested her resolve and her fortitude and she didn't always make the best of decisions.  But the best decision she's ever made was deciding to come home to Portland, her family, and Jamie. Katie's pain felt REAL as she described her life in Hollywood to Jamie and I could FEEL Jamie's anger and pain and hurt in reliving those experiences with Katie. In this book, you also meet Blackbeard (aka Spanky, Tiger).  Catherine Gayle wrote the scenes with Blackbeard in such a way that I could literally see him sitting on Babs shoulder! It's difficult to write a review of Dropping Gloves without giving away so many of the complex intricacies of the story, so I'll just say that Catherine Gayle has another hit with Dropping Gloves and has delivered the love story that we have been wanting for Jamie and Katie since Breakaway.
