As the mother of two intuitive boys, ages 8 and 10, it is hard to find good, fun "fill-in" books that aren't too girly. As I was looking for Christmas gifts this year, the Dude Diary caught my attention at B&N with it's totally "boy" graphics on the cover and lock on the side. I flipped through it and was sold! This is a really fun, imaginative book and the graphics are so BOY! My sons absolutely love it! They each have one and have spent a lot of time filling it out, comparing answers, and laughing hysterically. The authors really know boys and what they like and what makes them laugh! My oldest is a big fan of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series and had been craving his own diary... but the Wimpy Kid fill-in book just didn't do it for him. The Dude Diary completely filled that gap! He said that he enjoyed the Dude Diary, not only because it was funny, but because it was about HIM whereas he felt the Wimpy Kid fill-in book was about the Wimpy Kid characters. My boys are very different, but both enjoy this book. I promise you won't be disappointed.

It was very hard to find a locking diary for my 9 year old son who asked for one. He was thrilled to receice this one and has had lots of fun writing in it. It seems appropriate for 8-10 year olds.

Disappointing that this comes in paperback. It is a diary, after all, that will likely be saved forever. Now who knows in what condition, specially since it has a lock, which could easily be torn off. Otherwise, a great buy and the topics are fun and interesting. Where the captioned pages help spark ideas, would have liked to see more blank pages to encourage creative writing and the true purpose of a diary- to spill your guts. Having 2 boys though, I do appreciate that this is not a traditional diary and provides a good starting point for future journaling.
