Kenny Powers is a former baseball pitcher who aimed for the Big Leagues. However, his intolerable attitude and fading fastballs take a hard hit on his career. Soon, circumstances compel him to return to the place where he grew up and spent his childhood. He finds himself back in his old middle-school in Shelby, North Carolina, where he works as a substitute physical instructor.
