Franklin County, Georgia was established on February 25, 1784. The original Franklin County encompassed parts of South Carolina and twelve counties in Georgia (Oconee, Clarke, Madison, Banks, Hart, Stephens counties, parts of Gwinnett, Hall, and Habersham counties, and the northwestern corner of South Carolina, present-day Pickens, Oconee and Anderson counties.)
