Hancock County, Georgia was established on December 17, 1793 and was originally part of Greene and Washington Counties. It is Georgia's fifteenth county. The Hancock County Courthouse was destroyed by fire on August 11, 2014. Property deeds, birth and marriage certificates and many other vital records dating back to 1795 were destroyed.
