CHAPTER 1

"Son of a bitch ..."

Sinclair Smith swallowed the rest of the expletives lodged in her throat and watched her worst mistake cross the room. He caught her looking. The lying lips once responsible for making her heart race and her clothes fall off kicked up at one corner. It didn't matter that she hadn't laid eyes on Shane Maguire in ten years. She'd know that slow, unrepentant smile anywhere, even in the bustle of her sister Savannah's wedding reception.

"Problem?"

The question came from the man sitting beside her — best man Hunter Knox — and reminded her the rest of the room hadn't actually disappeared. John Legend's "All of Me" transitioned to The Beatles' "In My Life," and the DJ invited everyone to join the happy couple on the dance floor. Shane continued his unhurried strides, as if she'd been sitting there for the past decade, patiently waiting for him to show up and turn her world upside down. Again.

"No problem," she replied. Without taking her eyes off Shane, she grabbed Hunter's hand. "Dance with me." The tall, strapping EMT had inches and pounds on her, but surprise worked in her favor. She hauled him to the center of the dance floor, slung her arms over his broad shoulders and fit herself against him like she belonged there. When she looked beyond him, she had the satisfaction of seeing Shane stop in his tracks. His eyes narrowed, and then ... whoa. Her view spun away as Hunter executed a fluid move and reversed their position.

Rather than crane her neck, and give Shane the mistaken impression she gave an actual crap what he did, she switched her attention to her partner. Hunter was a hottie, with his clear blue eyes and easy grin. Given the opportunity, she might have been interested in finding out exactly how good the best man really was, but Savannah had told her he was crazy in love with some lucky girl. Thankfully, she wasn't looking for crazy, or love. She just needed a compliant dance partner — which he wasn't turning out to be. He resisted every attempt she made to take the lead. "Hey, Footloose, what are you doing?"

"Trying to size up the guy you're aiming to make jealous." His voice held no complaint, just curiosity.

She almost laughed out loud. "I'm not aiming to make anyone jealous. I wouldn't waste my time on such a stupid game."

Dark blond brows lifted. "You don't play games?"

"Oh, I can play games." Giving in, she craned her neck and scanned the crowd. "I can play with the best of them. I'm simply not playing one now. I'm not interested in speaking with someone — someone who's not supposed to be here in the first place — much less dancing with him. I figure the best way to avoid doing both is to speak and dance with people I am interested in." Aware her explanation came out a little sharp, she refocused her attention on Hunter and fixed a smile on her face. "Like you."

The corners of his mouth twitched, but if he was fighting a laugh, he managed to hold it back. "I'm honored to have made the cut, and under other circumstances I'd be happy to risk an ass-kicking to dance with a beautiful woman, but I'm expecting another beautiful woman to come through the door any second, and ... well ... I don't play games with her."

Damn. This guy might actually restore her faith in mankind. Without really meaning to, she relaxed in his arms. "Savannah mentioned something about you falling hard recently."

"Beau's got a big mouth," Hunter complained, but the easy grin made an encore.

"I doubt that." Her big sister's new husband fit the definition of the strong, silent type. "But Savannah's got a sixth sense about —"

A hand landed on Hunter's shoulder. "May I cut in?"

The voice held a deeper, more authoritative tone than she remembered, his Georgia drawl polished so smooth only a knowing ear would pick it up. All that deep, smooth, and authoritative made his question sound more like an inevitability than a request.

Hunter turned, and, in doing so, left her at the mercy of a determined green gaze. A gaze capable of luring her on an unwilling — and unwise — detour down memory lane. A gaze with the power to heat up her hormones, even after a decade, at the same time it fired her temper. The flash of satisfaction in those wicked depths told her the bastard had clocked her reaction from the other side of the room.

"That's up to the lady," Hunter replied, probably figuring one of them should respond.

Hell to the no. Shane might have put a tailored suit on his ridiculously impressive frame, and trimmed his thick, dark hair to a civilized length so it didn't fall like a raven's wing over his brow anymore, but she knew firsthand a dangerous heart beat beneath his respectable facade. She'd outgrown her bad-boy phase a long time ago. Been there. Done that. Got the scars to prove it. "No, thanks."

At her refusal, Hunter subtly shifted so she stood behind him, and she supposed she would have needed to get her estrogen checked if she hadn't experienced a small thrill watching two prime examples of the male animal silently square off. But after a moment, Shane merely shifted his attention to her, and — goddamn him — smiled. "What's the matter, Sinclair? Don't trust yourself in my arms?" "Don't flatter yourself." She wasn't some love-struck schoolgirl, susceptible to eyes as captivating as trapiche emeralds, or lips seductive enough to make bullshit sound like gospel.

Those lips curved into the I-dare-you grin she blamed for some of her most regrettable decisions. She could hear his unspoken challenge from across the space separating them. From across oceans. Across time.

Don't fall for it ...

"Fine. One dance. Then you leave." She wasn't falling for a damn thing. She was beating him at his own game — investing three minutes of her evening to get rid of him for the rest of her life. As soon as he took her hand, however, she knew she'd miscalculated. The single touch generated tiny sparks of recognition from every cell in her body. Before she could fully extinguish them, his arm closed around her waist and he pulled her against him. All the way against him, so her breasts rested against the unyielding expanse of his chest, and the big hand dominating the small of her back tipped her hips into the cradle of his. Hard thighs brushed hers.

"Sinclair, I can make a dance last all night."

She sensed, rather than saw, Hunter back off. A self-preserving part of her begged to do the same, but pride demanded she stay the course. Show Shane he didn't have the capacity to rattle her. Not even when he settled both hands low on her hips, in the kind of cocky, possessive gesture once guaranteed to send her pulse skyrocketing.

Different time. Different place. They'd both changed since then. She'd gotten wiser. He'd gotten a little taller, and a lot ... manlier. His lean, youthful frame had solidified into hard-packed muscle, tense with leashed power everywhere it pressed against her. The once naturally smooth line of his jaw now looked like it saw a razor on a daily basis. Her inner thighs itched at the hint of five-o'clock shadow, and his lips kicked up a notch as if he'd read her mind.

Not in this lifetime. She lifted her chin and held up her end of the stare-down while couples circled around them. Somewhere up in the rafters, rotating fixtures showered the dance floor with a dizzying rain of lights, while Paul McCartney sang simple, eloquent words about friends, and lovers, and memories.

The edges of her vision grew blurry, and her world narrowed to him. Just him. The song, or the atmosphere ... or something ... made her feel lightheaded. Or maybe the sensation had to do with the fact that while she was holding his gaze, she was also holding her breath? She inhaled, sending much-needed air to her brain, as well as the completely unneeded scent of sophisticated cologne, along with a hint of something she hadn't had a whiff of in ten years, yet her memory instinctively recognized as Shane.

He leaned in close, so his breath tickled the sensitive skin along the side of her neck. "You're a terrible pen pal, baby girl."

Her? What a low and completely unfair blow, especially coming from him. He was a ... a ... whatever. She ignored the comment, and the old endearment, and concentrated on drawing a deep breath. She would hold her tongue, because calling him a jackass on the dance floor in the middle of her sister's wedding conveyed a message, all right, but not You can't rattle me. Ultimately, the past didn't matter. The present mattered. Most specifically, how long before she saw the last of him.

"What are you doing here?" The question came out snippier than she would have liked, but she couldn't help it. He was crowding her with his height and his muscles — the scent of his skin, the sound of his voice, and lot of banished memories.

"Celebrating the bonds of holy matrimony. Same as you."

"I don't mean here." She gestured around the reception, although how he'd ended up as someone's plus-one also mystified her. "I mean, what are you doing in Magnolia Grove?" A fair question, in her mind, because even though he'd been born and raised in this town, he hadn't set foot anywhere near the place for years. His parents had moved to Illinois shortly after he'd left for boot camp, and he hadn't kept in touch with anyone local — least of all her. As far as she was concerned, he didn't have any reason to be there.

"Maybe I've missed my hometown?"

"Try again. You hated everything about Magnolia Grove."

His hold on her tightened fractionally. "Not everything."

She refused to get drawn into a conversation about what he liked, or missed. A ten-year absence demonstrated pretty clearly how deep his feelings for the town and everyone in it ran. "Sentiment didn't pull you back, so I'm going to guess work."

"Would you believe me if I said both?" She rolled her eyes, but his smile only widened. "The city requested bids for emergency planning services, and the firm I work for, Haggerty Consulting, won the contract."

This rang a bell. Magnolia Grove wasn't the small town it had been ten, or even five, years ago. The technology boom in nearby Norcross meant more residences and businesses in the surrounding areas, and Magnolia Grove definitely benefitted from the growth. Now a group of investors had plans to restore the Whitehall Plantation and turn it into a resort. To foster the project, the town council had agreed to create and implement a coordinated emergency response plan for the city, covering everything from fires to cyberattacks to natural disasters. "You're an emergency planning consultant?"

She already knew the answer. He'd left town, not dropped off the face of the planet. Tidbits about his life still made their way back to Magnolia Grove, whether she wanted to know them or not. She'd checked out his picture and profile more than once over the years, but she'd choke on her own tongue before she'd confess as much to him.

"I'm one of the best," he responded, and somehow managed to make the assertion sound matter-of-fact rather than boastful. "And since I already have a baseline familiarity with the area, Haggerty opted to send me."

"Lucky us." It was official. Fate hated her.

"Lucky all around," he countered, and leaned in again. "The mannerly response would be to welcome me home, Sinclair."

The low, teasing words gently mocked her. "Welcome home," she ground out. "When do you leave?"

His laugh caressed her ear. "Who said I was leaving? Maybe I'll stay. This is my home, after all."

No. Fucking. Way. Magnolia Grove was hers, dammit. He'd forfeited it ten years ago. "It's changed a lot since you've been gone. I doubt you'd —"

"I can see it's changed." Long fingers trespassed below the invisible line of decorum at the small of her back to very deliberately trace the curve of her hip. The move brought every nerve ending in the vicinity to attention, and she had a funny feeling he wasn't talking strictly about the town. "I have to admit, those changes are part of the allure. Show me around."

Uh-uh. She wasn't the Welcome Wagon, and he wasn't staying. If she had anything to say about it, he'd be gone before —

"Hot damn!" a voice blasted from the other side of the room. "There's a knock-down, drag-out fight in the parking lot."

Sinclair whirled to see who called out, while all around her, people rushed toward the exit. A few jostles and one stomped toe convinced her to step aside. She made her way to the perimeter of the dance floor. When she turned around, Shane had disappeared.

So much for him sticking around. And ironic, really, that he'd pull a fade in the face of a disturbance, because there'd been a time when he'd have been the first guy to wade in and throw a punch. Were it not for that mile-wide impulsive streak, and his misplaced protective instincts, they would never have known each other except in passing. She'd grown up in a nice, comfortable house in one of Magnolia Grove's most distinguished neighborhoods, while he'd been raised in a run-down rental in the old section of town. He'd been two years ahead of her in school, although showing up for the sake of district attendance expectations hadn't seemed high on his list of priorities.

But there had always been something about him ...

Since she had no desire to run outside and watch a couple of over-served idiots roll around in the dirt, she slipped into the small room the venue had allowed them to use for gifts and checked in with the wedding planner to get a sense of when they'd be doing the garter and bouquet toss. People were filtering back into the reception by the time she returned, which meant whatever drama had unfolded in the parking lot was under control. She saw her mother seated at a round, linen-draped table, talking with a gray-haired woman. She approached, realizing too late that her mom shared the table with gossipy old Claudia Pinkerton. The look her mother shot her absolutely forbade her from bailing.

Resigned to her fate, she kissed Mrs. Pinkerton's plump cheek, and took the empty chair next to her mother.

"Sinclair, dear. You look pretty as a picture in that dress. The color matches your eyes."

She smoothed her hand over the fitted bodice of the strapless, midnight-blue satin. "Thanks. The credit for the dress choice goes to Savannah, although I did warn her things would get ugly if she stuck me in sea foam. What happened outside?"

"You don't know?" Mrs. Pinkerton scooted her chair closer to the table. "Heavens, I nearly passed out from fright. The best man's girlfriend's baby daddy showed up drunk or stoned or some such nonsense and tried to snatch the baby right out of her arms."

"Hunter's girlfriend? Holy sh ... heck," she modified as her mom whacked her knee. "Is everyone okay?"

Mrs. Pinkerton nodded. "Hunter knocked him on his you-know-what and then threw him in the pond. Your dance partner fished him out and handed him off to Sheriff Kenner. Deputies took the whole mess down to the station so as not to ruin Beau and Savannah's day."

"Speaking of dance partners," her mom interrupted, "who was that boy you were dancing with? You two seemed awfully familiar, but I couldn't place him."

"That's Shane Maguire," Mrs. Pinkerton supplied, her expression as eager as her reply. "Remember him?"

"The same Shane Maguire who broke your grandson Ricky's nose their senior year of high school?"

Sinclair resisted the urge to leap to Shane's defense. Ricky had definitely had it coming, but the Pinkertons were influential in these parts, and thanks to the very loud, very public fit Ricky's parents had pitched, few people knew, or cared, about the underlying facts.

Mrs. Pinkerton nodded. "A lot of folks considered him a troublemaker, just like his brother, but I've always had a soft spot for the boy. By the looks of that dance, you do, too, Sinclair."

Her mother's keen blue eyes cut to her. "You don't say?"

"As a matter of fact, I don't." She intended to disabuse anyone of that notion right quick. "He's been gone for ages. I barely know him. I simply shared a dance with an old schoolmate. End of story. Hey, Dad," she greeted her father as he ambled up to their table. "I heard you started some trouble outside."

He stopped behind her chair, and rested his hands on her shoulders.

"Me? Get real. I finished it, kiddo."

"Bill, please don't tell me you got involved —"

"Relax, dear." He winked at Sinclair and then turned his smile on his wife. "Kenner had everything under control by the time I came along. An impressive state of readiness, I have to say. Mayor Campbell credited the city's new consultant with the speedy response. Apparently he suggested they muster up some overtime budget so Kenner could increase patrols for things like weddings, since the combination of gathered family and host bar sometimes makes for interesting results."

I enjoyed this book! It might even be my favorite from this author. It's definitely this one or Hard Compromise. I guess I like second chances.

Shane Maquire is back in town after ten long years away. Sinclair was the one that got away, the girl he’s never gotten over, but history is seen a little differently from Sinclair’s point of view. Shane’s appearance back in her home town shoots a mix of pain, and yearning through her body. He was gone and never looked back; Sinclair left to pick up the pieces. Now that he’s back and demanding to get reacquainted, Sinclair resolves to keep him at a distance, not risk her heart, because she’s not sure she could survive the heartbreak a second time. Shane’s definitely a sweet, sexy, Southern charmer, but she’s not the naïve girl she used to be. If you love second chance romances then you’ll love this super hot, emotion filled story! Samanthe Beck’s writing made Shane and Sinclair’s lust, longing and hurt come off the pages, straight into my heart! Darn, that woman can write some hot stuff! I loved their playful banter, the high voltage sexual tension between them! No matter the barrier Sinclair tries to erect, Shane is the man to make her walls crumble. *sigh* A total recommend!

Sinclair Smith hasn't seen Shane Maguire in 10 years when they meet up again at her sister, Savannah's wedding. Shane left her behind when he left for boot camp. He's back in town for work and he talks Sinclair into helping him out. I love her line "Welcome home. When do you leave". Shows him exactly how she feels about seeing him again. I absolutely love these two. Their banter is hilarious. Shane wants his girl back and Sinclair is just as determined not to go down that road again. I could literally feel the built up of their sexual tension. Their chemistry is sizzling. The secondary characters really add depth and humor to this book. This is book 3 in the Love Emergency Series but was easily a stand alone. I seriously read this book straight through. I was enjoying it so much I couldn't put it down. I was a little lost when the story ended. I wanted more. I will say I loved the Epilogue. We get a glimpse into their future and added some more laughs. I really hope there is another book to this series (I am going back and reading the first 2). This is the first book I have read by Samanthe Beck and I love her writing style and am now stalking her on Amazon and through her newsletter. I want to make sure I don't miss any future books.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. Shane and Sinclair had a teenage love affair, which unfortunately left scars. At the age of eighteen, Shane has to enlist to the Army or go to jail, but he thinks that he will keep communication with Sinclair, but things do not go as planned. He returns to his hometown, a successful, different man, where no one would expect much of family name. Sinclair flips when she sees him, and does not want anything to do with him, but the chemistry is still combustible, and Shane wants another chance, but they first have to deal with the past. There is also the issue that he is there to help his development that would take Sinclair's home from her. It was a nice love story.

4 stars Emergency Attraction was a hot, fun and very entertaining second chance love story. The storyline was well written, the plot was easy to follow and the drama was well done. I loved watching Sinclair and Shane reconnect, you could feel their attraction/connection all throughout the book and the chemistry between them was off the charts! These two had me staying up late into the night reading their story, it warmed my heart seeing them come together after all the misunderstandings that kept them apart. I'm a huge fan of author Samanthe Beck's work and once again she's given us a hot and steamy read with characters that will entertain us and leave us with a heart full of happy feels.

Second chance romance! Yessssss :) Shane and Sinclair had a totally believable reason for not working out the first time, which definitely helps make the second chance romance troupe work so well here. I also appreciated that neither one of them was truly at fault for what ended up happening with their original relationship, beyond the fact that they were both so young. But when their second chance comes along? Watch out, people, because these two are H-O-T together. And yep, Shane does know his way around the ol' romantic grand gesture, I'm happy to report. Total swoon-worthiness. Throw in an epilogue that is just too flippin' cute for words ("Your mother borrowed something"--LOL), and you've got a winner here, folks! Emergency Attraction is book 3 in the Love Emergency series, and though there are aspects of the story that will have a bit more meaning for people who've read the other books--Sinclair is Savannah's ( Emergency Engagement ) sister, and there's a slight overlap between books 2 ( Emergency Delivery ) and 3--a dramatic scene from 2 plays out in the background early in this story--but if you haven't read the other books yet, you'll manage just fine. I'm not saying you won't want to read them, mind you... ;) Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

It has been awhile since I'd read anything by Samanthe Beck. I can gladly state that I'm happy I picked up Emergency Attraction and that it did not disappoint. I almost had forgotten how much I love books by this author and how refreshing they are. I love Samanthe Beck's writing style and Emergency Attraction is no exception there. Fun facts! Emergency Attraction is a full-length novel, that is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. It is told from alternative third person POVs between the main characters, Shane and Sinclair. There is no cheating and yes, it does have an HEA. Oh, and it's a second chance romance. Now then, let me fan my face. These two characters sparked some major attraction from the get-go. It likely helps that they have a past, and some would think that a ten-year span would lesson that, but it doesn't. I loved these characters and their ability to surprise me. I can definitely say I was rooting for them. Despite what almost feels like these characters moving extremely fast, there is depth to the relationship. It's a pretty straight-forward book plotwise, with a few things thrown in there to spice it up. Shane definitely stole my heart and he did it in almost a sneak attack way. 4 Emergency Stars! Would definitely recommend it.

This book gave me all the feels! I feel in love with Sinclair and Shane. Their second chance love story is hot, dreamy and delicious. Sinclair is my kind fo girl. She's smart, confident and isn't going to let Shane sail back into her life on his terms. Shane was determined to get back the girl of his dreams. I love a second chance romance, and this is one of the best, ever! Off the chart chemistry. Sex scenes that will have you fanning along with the fantastic dialogue. This book has it all.

Samanthe Beck has another hit on her hands. Full disclosure: My girl-crush on Sinclair Smith began in book one of Beck's Love Emergency series. She was the protective big sister whose sassy personality almost eclipsed the heroine's. I've been anxious for her story ever since. It was well worth the wait. She's just as fiery, independent, and stubborn, which makes her perfect for Shane Maguire. Now there's a sexy hero who's going to make hearts flutter and panties melt. I have a slight aversion to alphas. By slight I mean I've never met one I didn't want to neuter. Our man Shane weaved back and forth over that alpha line, earning him the side eye for the first part of the story. In the second half he either chilled his controlling ways or his repeated attempts to win back Sinclair's heart wore me down. It's a toss up. Either way, it's a certainty that if I think a hero is too alpha, other readers are going to fall quick & hard, elevating him to the top of their BBF list. We met most of the secondary characters in the previous books. It was so much fun seeing them again. Sinclair and Savannah's parents are still the sweet, funny parents we all wish we'd had. Then there's Savannah, Beau, Hunter, Madison and a passel of little ones I couldn't keep track of. Boy, have they been having fun since we last saw them! I doubt we'll see him again in a starring role, but I have to give honorable mention to Shane's boss. He had a plain spoken way of delivering sage one-liners that was hilarious. I completely adored him. The story hooked me immediately and held me captive until the last word. I truly did not want this book to end. It was sweet, funny, emotional, and steamy-all delivered in that incomparable Samanthe Beck style. It will definitely go on my keeper shelf to be reread. If you haven't read this series yet, treat yourself now. Emergency Attraction can be read as a standalone, but you'll get so much more out of it if you read Emergency Engagement and Emergency Delivery first.

***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog*** Emergency Attraction by Samanthe Beck Book Three of the Love Emergency series Publisher: Entangled Brazen Publication Date: April 17, 2017 Rating: 4 stars Source: eARC from Edelweiss Summary (from Goodreads): Ten years ago when Shane Maguire chose the Marines as his escape from some trouble of his own making, he only regretted one thing—leaving Sinclair Smith behind. Despite his best intentions, she ended up as the one that got away. Now he’s back, determined to reclaim everything he gave up, including Sinclair. Sinclair is immune to Shane’s charms. She’s immune to stolen kisses behind the gym. And she’s definitely immune to that maneuver he did in the back seat of his car… Okay, maybe her hormones are susceptible, but she has absolutely no desire to risk anything on the bad boy who broke all his promises. When a little emergency lands her at his mercy, he offers her a deal she can’t refuse. And this time, she’ll show Shane what it means to be left wanting… Each book in the Love Emergency series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order. What I Liked: Samanthe Beck is one of my favorite Entangled Brazen authors - and adult romance authors in general. I haven't read a book of hers that I didn't enjoy, which is saying something! Some books have been better than others, but in general, her books work for me. I read the first book in this particular series (Emergency Engagement), but passed on the second book (Emergency Delivery). I almost passed on this one as well (for reasons I'll talk about!), but I'm glad I didn't. This book was a quick, enjoyable read. Shane Maguire and Sinclair Smith grew up together in a small town, and when they were teenagers, they shared a powerful connection beyond physical attraction. But circumstances led to Shane joining the Marines and Sinclair staying behind. Ten years later, Shane is back, working as in risk management for emergency planning. It's been ten years but Shane's feelings for Sinclair haven't changed, and even though her left her, Sinclair's feelings haven't changed either. She can deny it all she wants, but their chemistry hasn't cooled and the pair have missed each other. But Sinclair might not be ready to give Shane a second chance, even if Shane is committed to staying with her. One of the reasons why I almost passed on this book is because it's a second-chance romance, and I really don't enjoy second-chance romance novels. I hate all the drama and angst and hurt - someone is always hurt (usually both of them), and usually it's because of miscommunication. In this book's case, the second-chance aspect was not as dramatic and angst-ridden as I'd expected! Sure, there were painful, heartbreaking parts to Shane and Sinclair's mutual past, but the book was fairly low on drama. Shane is such a good guy, and clearly very different than at eighteen. Years in the military straightened him out and made him a stronger, better person. For years, he sent Sinclair letters, trying to reach out, but she never responded. But Shane never stopped loving her, thinking about her, wanting her. Ten years later, Shane is persistent, protective, thoughtful, and a little naughty. He's a sweet guy who is incredibly patient with Sinclair. Read the rest of my review on my blog, The Eater of Books! - eaterofbooks DOT blogspot DOT com :)

I have yet to read a Samanthe Beck story that I haven't loved. And this one is no exception. This story sizzled from the very first page to the last page of the epilogue. Shane and Sinclair had a second chance at love and struggled to get it or accept it. I loved how Sinclair was weary of Shane and made him fight for what he wanted. Although he did get her an some good times with ease, hello fire extinguisher. And I loved even more his fierce determination to get her back. They were a great couple with tons of hurts, but their journey was worthwhile. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

in emergency attraction, it's been ten years since sinclair smith and shane maguire laid eyes on each other. they were young and in love and promised to stay in touch after he was forced to leave town and enlist. but he didn't call. he didn't write. at least not immediately. and by the time he did, sinclair wasn't willing to listen. so they each harbor a lot of anger and resentment toward one another, although really most of it comes from sinclair's side. and here's the thing, i totally get why she feels the way she does, except she's also being insanely irrational. she went through some things. things he didn't know about. and there were reasons he wasn't able to be in touch, but she never bothered to listen to them. and yes, they were too young to know better. but in the intervening ten years, it feels like shane did a lot of growing up while sinclair did not. but he's still crazy attracted to her. he's halfway in love with her before they manage a civil conversation. and she keeps sending totally mixed signals in a way that makes it pretty clear that it's all a test. she won't listen, won't believe in him until he proves that he is trustworthy again. the reason he is home is because he is assessing the viability of some resort plans, and when her home is threatened by the plans and the concerns he's raised she is furious. she knows it's not his fault. but she wants him to fix it. she doesn't trust that he can. and all of this is the ultimate test. he needs to get this right for her. he needs to be able to prove that he can stick things through with her. if they can exorcise the demons from their past, reveal all their secrets and come through the latest crises on the same page, then maybe, just maybe things will work out. sinclair and shane don't have an easy road, she makes it an especially difficult one. but their chemistry and their feelings for each other are stronger than pretty much any obstacle. they just have to let themselves believe that love will win. **emergency attraction will publish on april 17, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (brazen) in exchange for my honest review.

I love a good second chance romance, and Samanthe Beck delivers in this sexy and sweet story! Just before high school graduation, Shane had come to Sinclair's rescue and for the next three weeks, they'd been inseparable. But with Shane heading off to the military and Sinclair going to spend the summer in Europe, promises to keep in touch fell by the wayside as real life intervened, resulting in a split that neither really got over. Ten years later Shane is back for a short term contract with his company as an emergency planning consultant. The sparks are still there between them, even as Sinclair knows that Shane broke her heart once, and could do it again. Can they find a way to put the past behind them and build a new future together? This is a really fun and sexy story, with a few emotional moments as some serious topics are touched upon, yet it still has a lighthearted feel. Because of the way Shane and Sinclair's relationship as teenagers dissolved there was never any real closure for them - and they discover that it's easy to fall back into old patterns. Sexual attraction was never their problem, and they share some very steamy scenes even as Sinclair is reluctant to reveal the depth of her feelings for Shane. Sinclair's home is threatened by a new golf course being built, and Shane feels torn with his responsibility to do his job while trying to protect Sinclair. The conflict is genuine and they go through a few ups and downs on the way to their very satisfactory ending. And the epilogue is super cute! Always a delight to read a book by this author. 4 stars.

This is a book 3 in the Love Emergency series and it features Sinclair Smith and Shane Maguire. Teenage lovers separated too soon and 10 years later he's back in his hometown. All the sparks are still there but will explanations be enough for forgiveness? I adore Shane! He works hard at what he wants and refuses to give up a second time. I especially love the epilogue! Very funny and very sexy! I WANT A WILLOW TREE!!!

I loved this book. I love all of Samanthe Beck's books. Truly. Her characters always, always make me care, make me feel, and make me happy. This time it's Shane and Sinclair, and I adored everything about them. Combined with smart writing, humor, engaging dialogue, and hot sexy times, this is another page-turning winner I highly recommend.

Rating ~ 4.5 Stars Passion and heartache collide I’m a fan of Samanthe Beck. She always, always writes heroes I want to fall in love with and heroines I would love to be friends with. The men and women of her Love Emergency series have been incredible with their easy going attitudes, strong wills, passion, and love. What has surprised me about this series is that not only has Samanthe added passion and heat, but she has thrown in heartbreaking moments. Emergency Attraction is the second chance love story of Shane Maguire and Sinclair Smith. Ten years ago, an eighteen-year-old Shane left sixteen- year-old Sinclair and his troubles in Magnolia Grove, Georgia behind to join the Marines. He promised that he would contact her and that they would be together. After months of not hearing from him, Sinclair’s trust was broken. But in the process she lost more than anyone could imagine. Fast forward ten years and Shane is all grown up, mature, and a different person. Oh, his urge to help people is still a part of him. He just uses it in his job as VP of Disaster Planning and Crisis Management for Haggerty Consulting. Shane’s company is hired to implement an emergency plan for Magnolia Grove and he is sent because of his knowledge of the town. Not only does Shane want to show people he isn’t anything like his criminal brother, but he also wants to reconnect with Sinclair “the one who got away”. Sinclair has no intention of letting Shane back into her life. But Shane is definitely persistent, taking her on tours of their past haunts. These tours are a way for him and Sinclair to reconnect not only physically, but emotionally. As it turns out, while these two knew so much about each other, there are some things they don’t know. What started out as childhood love has blossomed and remained strong, even with time and distance. Like the roots of a willow tree, the love of Sinclair and Shane is deeply rooted and strong enough to withstand any storm rained down on them. When it comes to romances for me, I always look for a hero I can fall in love with easily, one who makes me laugh, smile, and sigh. Shane is all that and then some. He might make some mistakes but he tries very hard to keep his word. Sinclair and Shane have a passion that isn’t easy to ignore. The secondary characters add tissue-worthy moments and definitely add to the story. It should be noted that this is a standalone read, with past couples returning. **Received a copy from Entangled Publishing and reviewed the book voluntarily. Will also be purchasing a paperback copy.**

My Review: Ah, one of my favorite tropes...second chance at love. I really enjoyed this one. Sinclair haven't seen one another in ten years, not since Sinclair was 16 and Shane was 18 and on his way to Marine boot camp. They'd made promises to one another, promises that fell apart while he was out of touch during boot camp. Neither one knows the full story of what happened back then, but there's no denying that their chemistry is just as hot and explosive as ever. But now they're in a very different place individually, too. Shane is the VP of a company that weighs emergency management and is in town to help out on a development project...a project which could impact Sinclair's home, an old barn that she's slowly been rebuilding. She also owns her own jewelry company and designs all the pieces. It was all really, really good, but the driving force behind the story is most definitely Shane and Sinclair. I like that they've changed and matured, but still have that thread of connection that hasn't weakened at all. I liked their little tours and the way they each used that venue to tie them back to the past and the future. They have such history, it was fun to see all those little elements play into their present possibilities. But it isn't just the two main characters. Their family and friends come into play to a large part of the story. I loved that especially the scenes with Sinclair's father. As a parent, his frustration about not being able to protect Sinclair touched me a lot. I loved those tiny little elements that were really sprinkled throughout the story making it so much more. Overall this was another great installment to this fantastic series. All the books can easily been read as stand alones. I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I'll be honest here and say I'm not exactly a fan of second chance romance. If it didn't work the first time, I need a good reason as to why it will work the second time. I like this author and have enjoyed several of her books, so I wanted to give this one a chance. I admit, her reasons for this couple separating and not getting back together until 10 years later, convinced me. Their reasons were valid and that's enough for me. It also helped that Shane pursued Sinclair relentlessly when he came back. I'm a fan of that. I much prefer the man to pursue the woman and Shane didn't disappoint. I'm also a fan of the heroine's this author creates. They are strong, independent women who have self respect. That is important to me and sometimes rare to find. ARC provided by Netgalley

For Sinclair Smith, it’s been ten years since she’s seen the only man who can make her heart race. Shane Maguire is back in town and wants Sinclair back. He will do anything to have her, and their explosive chemistry works in his favor. Shane and Sinclair and as hot as can be, but can Sinclair trust Shane’s intentions this time, or is fate telling them to stop while they are ahead? I enjoyed Shane and Sinclair as characters and liked them even more as a couple. Well-written words, juicy details, and likable characters make this a great read! Samanthe Beck really turns up the heat with this steamy, second chance romance!

Rated 4.5 Stars Emergency Attraction is a second chance romance. It's not a suspense nor is it a mystery but there's a secret that drives a bit of the plot and I really loved how that element was woven into the story it kept me anticipating and flipping pages even though I pretty much knew what it was from the start but it had me riveted nonetheless. That's not the only thing that kept me flipping pages and emotionally invested in these characters and their story. Samanthe Beck has a knack for writing stories that keep me highly entertained (this one had me chuckling every so often) emotionally satisfied and hot and bothered from the Hot sex scenes. I absolutely adored it. Everyone needs to meet the arrogance that is Shane and the feistiness that is Sinclair and the explosion that is them together. The sexual tension between these two was off the chains and when they came together oh boy combustible doesn't do justice to what happens between them when they ignite. If that's your cup of tea so to speak don't hesitate to pick this book up, I can't recommend it enough. ARC provided by publisher through Net Galley in exchange for a honest review

3.75 stars-- EMERGENCY ATTRACTION is the third (and final?) installment in Samanthe Beck’s contemporary, adult LOVE EMERGENCY erotic, romance series. This is former Marine and risk management assessor Shane Maguire, and jewelry designer Sinclair Smith’s story line. EMERGENCY ATTRACTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story line is revealed where necessary. Sinclair is the sister of Savannah Smith (Emergency Engagement #1). Told from dual third person perspectives (Sinclair and Shane) EMERGENCY ATTRACTION focuses on the rekindling romance between our leading couple. Ten years earlier Shane and Sinclair were in love but a then eighteen year old Shane Maguire enlisted in the Marines to avoid some trouble back home, and in the ensuing time Shane and Sinclair lost contact with one another. Fast forward to present day wherein Shane has returned to his hometown of Magnolia Grove, and the woman he has never stopped loving in all that time. What ensues is the second chance romance between Shane and Sinclair, and the fallout of ten years of anger and betrayal for a woman who lost more than the man that she loved. Sinclair Smith was sixteen years old when Shane Maguire walked out of her life but things did not go according to plans and our heroine struggled with the loss of the only boy she would ever love. Throughout the years Shane never stopped loving the woman from whom he walked away but walking away had never been in the plans. The relationship between Shane and Sinclair is one of second chances but ten years earlier Sinclair struggled with more than the loss of the man that she loved but a loss that has affected her life in many ways. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Savannah and Beau Montgomery (Emergency Engagement#1), Madison and Hunter Foley (Emergency Delivery #2), as well as Sinclair’s parents, and an assortment of townsfolk, politicians and the requisite evil who has history with our story line hero. EMERGENCY ATTRACTION is a sweet story of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people torn apart by circumstance, a lack of communication, misunderstanding, secrets and life. The premise is lighthearted and moving ; the romance is passionate, sexy and spicy; the characters are spirited and energetic. EMERGENCY ATTRACTION is a touching story about fated lovers given a second chance at life and love.

Sinclair Smith met the love of her life ten years ago, then he shipped out to join Marine Corps and she never heard from him again... and it hurt like hell. She gave him a part of herself, never expecting him to disregard it so easily and leave like it meant nothing to him. Then tragedy strikes her life and she feels as though if Shane were there to protect her from it it would have never happened, and from there her hatred for him starts to build. She has since moved on, made a name for herself in the jewelry world, but she still lives in somewhat of an isolated little world. When she hears that Shane has returned to town to advise on a local project, she can't help but be irritated, and decides her best course of action is to avoid him at all costs... but doing that in a small town is easier said then done! Shane Maguire left Magnolia Grove ten years ago, and never looked back, if he had he's sure his troublesome ways would have caught up to him! His motives for leaving were genuine, he needed to become a better man, and he was sure the Marine Corp could help him with that, but walking away from his high school sweetheart Sinclair damn near killed him. But now home is calling him in need of his expertise, so he reluctantly decides to make his return, and while he is there he plans on finding a way to reunite with the woman who has held his heart for the last ten years. But when you go radio silent on the woman you claim to love, and ignore her for the last ten years, a happy reunion maybe just be too high of a hope to have! Once again Ms. Beck has dazzled me with her literary talents, this second chance love story was nothing short of amazing! The moment I met these two lovebirds I knew they were going to be an entertaining pair, their distaste for one another spawned some seriously feisty banter, that often times lead to some steamy between the sheets action that left blushing a time or two. They also had a lot of forgiving to do, and had to work through the deep seated hurt that had built up over the last ten years, and while they endured a lot of little bumps along the way getting things sorted out... they finally found a way to meet in the middle. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two, their story gave me the feels, filled my heart with joy, and renewed my faith in happily ever afters! I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

Second chance romances are always hard for me. I like them, but they usually break my heart before things finally come together, and I have a love/hate relationship with the feeling it gives me. I really loved the first 2 books in this series, and I was looking forward to Sinclair's story. She seemed so closed off to love, and now I understand why, but at the same time, I often wanted to smack her around. Sinclair is a jewelry designer, and the sister of the heroine from book 1. She's an interesting character, but we never got to know what made her tick in the prior book. Now, we know a lot more. Sinclair and Shane had a high school love affair. He left town, in a heap of trouble, and joined the Marine Corps. She had hopes of hearing from him once he was able, but fate had other plans, and then she retreated into herself, and wouldn't hear him out. She's isolated herself in a lot of ways in the 10 years since, and she blamed him for everything bad in her life, even subconsciously sometimes. Even though she hasn't seen or spoken to him in a decade. Shane Maguire returns to his hometown in the capacity of his career. He ran out of town at 18 with the law on his heels, but now he's got a good life. He's an emergency management consultant, and the town has hired his boss' firm to run a project. He's good at his job, and he's looking forward to showing the town that he's done just fine in his life. He knows he'll see Sinclair, and part of him is even anticipating it, but he has no idea what he's walking into. Additionally, he has absolutely no plans to stick around, once the job is done. Best laid plans, and all that... Shane and Sinclair's chemistry is still there, in spades, and Sinclair is not happy about it. Shane doesn't know or understand the finer points of her anger, and he's determined to win her over again. Mostly he succeeds, but he's fighting her, and her pride, tooth and nail. I basically liked Sinclair, and I understood her history, and how it colored her perceptions of things, herself included. But, every time she ignored her feelings, or struck out against him, or literally ran away from a situation, I kinda wanted to punch her in the face. How can someone not know themselves at all? I mean, she's 26 years old and it seems she hasn't learned much about herself except how to protect herself at all costs. Regardless of who else it hurts, including herself, in the long run. She overcomes a lot of hurdles in their path together, and I can appreciate the end result, but for me, getting there was a little painful. On the flip side, I loved Shane. Once he decided what he wanted, he went after it, full force, and I love that in a hero. He fought for Sinclair, and their love, and he never backed down. He moved mountains to come through for her, and I loved to watch their connection grow, and grow, until even she couldn't deny it anymore. I really liked the way everything started to play out, and I liked them together so much. The author does alpha, authoritative dirty talk very well, and I love her style. I liked this book, and my love for Shane and the overall story line overcame my less-than-like (I don't want to say dislike, as it wasn't quite that strong) of Sinclair. This has been a great series, and I've enjoyed each of the stories so much. The fact that they took place in Georgia, might have given them a special place in my heart as well! I look forward to more from this author.

Samanthe Beck never fails to bring us truly unforgettable, deliciously sexy heroes and she doesn't disappoint in this book. Shane was all the above and more and Sinclair was a perfect match for him. There's plenty of sizzle between them and their story is a fun ride. The only regret Shane has is leaving Sinclair behind when he joined the Marines. He should have at least told her why but he's back now and willing to do whatever it takes to get her back. As expected Sinclair isn't willing to go along with Shane's plans. Perhaps a little revenge will help her finally get over him! I highly recommend this one.
