Description: This is a technique (or recipe) book on methods to place capillary endothelial cells into cell culture. Each of the eight chapters describes procedures to obtain and culture cells from the microvasculature of eight different specific organ sources.
Purpose: The editor states that this volume is intended to be a "how to" book for interested investigators. As this volume (and others in this series of Handbooks in Practical Animal Cell Biology) are written as practical guides to specific techniques, the stated objectives are both worthy and well achieved.
Audience: This book is written for laboratory scientists who wish to place specific endothelial cell types into tissue culture. The writing style and information in the book are very appropriate. The editor and authors of each chapter are authoritative and knowledgeable.
Features: Illustrations are not essential to the purpose of this book, but those that are included are of very good quality and should be very helpful to the user. The references are very current, and their use in the text is informative and appropriate. The index is quite thorough. Although this small book has no special features, it is attractive and reasonably priced.
Assessment: This book should be of interest to anyone who is interested in endothelial cell biology. The emphasis on isolating and culturing capillary endothelial cells as well as the detailed presentation and discussion of technical details makes this volume a valuable contribution to researchers in this field.
