With no BACK button inherent to the Nook HD, some study Bibles are challenging to use. This version anticipates and alleviates that problem when accessing the notes by linking the verse(s) at the top of the notes. Other study functions have a BACK link next to them making it similarly easy to return to the Bible passage. Barring a proprietary BACK button or touch screen button these features make for excellent functionality and ease of use. Something other study Bibles should learn from as they strive to make these available on digital reader platforms.

I have been reading the King James Bible since 1961, so I'm not a big fan of any of the modern-speech versions, even such conservative translations as NASB, NKJV, or ESV. However, this edition of the English Standard Version is one of the best study and devotional Bibles I've ever seen. The book is beautiful, the text is clear and readable, and the study and devotional notes are excellent. The focus of the notes is on the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ from Genesis to Revelation. This is a broadly evangelical study Bible with no axes to grind, so any Bible-believing Christian will profit from it and grow in God's grace.

The work of many to display Christ through all of scripture has come together in a very accessible way to the average man. This particular translation (ESV) is my favorite for reading and studying and when coupled with the Gospel message evident on every page it is truly a great resource. A bonus code included for activation of the on-line version makes this a great BOGO as well. Fellow pastor-teachers and elders, although well trained, have told me how much they enjoy it too. This edition is a must have.

Use this Bible in addition to the ESV Study Bible and not instead of. Even though the text itself is identical to the ESV Study Bible text, the introductions and notes are not. While the ESV Study Bible is a great tool for understanding the meanings and context of scripture, the ESV Transformation Bible gives you the Gospel in each book. As mentioned by another reviewer, the introduction to each book has a section called "The Gospel in (book name)" giving you how to find the Gospel in the book along with appropriate Bible references. This Bible sits alongside my ESV Study Bible and both get used constantly.

The irony is we call the first four books of the New Testament "gospel" wherein fact all the word "gospel" means is "good news." If one were to look at the entire bible as not necessarily history, but the "complete" story of the life of Jesus - then it becomes very easy to see the entire bible as gospel - and that's exactly what this bible sets out do. This is not a typical study Bible, rather it's a study Bible with only one objective. To show you the line and story of the life of Jesus through the entire Bible. Could you use this Bible as your standard reading Bible? Absolutely! This Bible still has maps, a concordance, weights and measures and everything you'd expect from a standard Bible. But in addition, each book of the Bible has an author/contributor who gives the introduction to the book as well as substantial notes throughout. This Bible has the perfect amount of notes, not too much so that they add 100 extra pages, but not too little so that you get the "meat" of what this section of scripture is about. The contributors are authors, writers, seminary professors, pastors and Bible teachers. This is a wonderful Bible from Crossway - highly recommended. Plus, I love the ESV translation. The Bible is an "essentially literal" text that seeks to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Biblical writer. That means each word and phrase in the ESV Bible has been carefully vetted against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages. This attention to detail ensures the fullest accuracy and clarity and it avoids under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The history o the ESV Bible come out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the Revised Standard Version. Thank you to Crossway for a free copy of this text for a fair and honest review
