U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law enforcement. But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels. His feelings toward Liz haven't warmed in the five years since she lost her husband--and Jake's best friend--to possible suicide. How can Jake be expected to care for the coldhearted workaholic who drove his friend to despair?

As the danger mounts and Jake gets to know Liz better, his feelings slowly start to change. When it becomes clear that an unknown enemy may want her dead, the stakes are raised. Because now both her life--and his heart--are in mortal danger.

Full of the suspense and romance Irene Hannon's fans have come to love, Fatal Judgment is a thrilling story that will keep readers turning the pages late into the night.

Thank you Barnes & Noble for offering some Christian & inspirational choices for the free Friday selection! Just because this type of fiction isn't everybody's cup of tea, does not mean it "sucks" or is "boring", in the words of other posters. I appreciate that there are a variety of genres offered for the free Friday selections, offering something for everybody.

I loved this book. After reading her last suspense series I thought her books couldn't get any better. I was wrong. I loved this book and can't wait for her next in this series. If you love christian suspense, don't miss this one.

Why do people tell the entire story in their review? We can read the summary people! Just tell us in you feel it's worth the time or money to download, or if something about it is exceptional or awful. When I see those page long reviews I skip right over them.

Suspense, romance, and written with class. I have enjoyed all of Irene Hannon's books. Writing style is similar to Dee Henderson.

Warning! This book is fatally hazardous to ones sleep! True to the description on the back of the book, the book keeps the reader turning the pages long, long, long into the night. Each turn of the page brings fast paced suspenseful crime blended with tender romance. It lasts through out the book (starting immediately from the first sentence!) until the very last page. Thus, the fatal hazard to the readers sleep. You will NOT be able to, or even want to, put it down. And, the good thing is, this is book 1 in Hannon's newest series, Guardians of Justice, so we will get more of this awesome crime drama! The characters in this book are all unique in their own way, each with their own struggles, and I fell in love with each one of them. This book, and it's wonderfully molded characters, absolutely gripped me and pulled me directly into the plot. I felt on many occasions that I, myself, was Judge Michaels, and it was I whom the killer was intent on killing! My heart pounded with all the action and each new twist in the case of fatal judgement was definitely edge-of-seat, breath gasping material! While I connected with Liz, it was Jake Taylor that really stood out and pulled me in. His devotion to his cases, his love for those around him, really stood out. His meaningful character was the depth of this awesome story, especially as he learned to rely on God wholly once again! I definitely, hands down, recommend this better-than-TV-crime-dramas book. Five stars and then some, you'll fall in love with Hannon's faith-filled, romantic, action packed novels. And, if you're already a Hannon fan, this is a MUST, MUST, MUST read to add to your shelves!

FATAL JUDGMENT by Irene Hannon is an action packed inspirational romantic suspense set in present day St. Louis. It is the first in the new series "Guardians of Justice". It is well written with depth, details, twists, turns, action packed, and fast paced. It has romance, faith, healing, murder, danger, justice, guilt, survival, mystery, suspense, second chances, love, FBI, special tactual forces, U.S. Marshalls, and redemption. The hero, Jake, is handsome, a U.S. Marshal, assigned to protect a judge, who just happens to have been his best friend's widow. The heroine, Liz, is a federal judge, just had her sister murdered in her house, is assigned to protective custody,in danger, has an unknown enemy and must keep her feeling in check. The police,FBI, U.S.Marshals and other law enforcement agency detail is amazing and adds authenticity to the story. This is a fast paced, page turning story of second chances, changing opinions, high stakes, life or death situation, finding peace with ones own actions and finding faith again during times of turmoil and trouble. This author has done it again with this story packed full of suspense and romance. Its a really cute story. Not overly steamy but it developed nicely. Great potential in supporting characters too! I'd read another.

It is nice that BnN has free friday but i would like to see something recognizable. Some free books have been good but...... Also Free Friday should be separate for kids, teens and adults. Three choices.

Irene Hannon sure can write a compelling story! Her research impresses me, and her characters are quite believable. From cover to cover, this story demanded my full attention; I could not allow any interruptions. I have one complaint, however; the author writes in sentence fragments, which throws off this retired English teacher. I guess it's her style, but I prefer complete sentences. Nevertheless, this is a book worth reading, and I recommend it heartily. Thank you to Donna Hausler of Baker Publishing Group for my copy. This is one Christian fiction that I think most readers will enjoy.

I wish people would appreciate different genres and not be so judgmental. Try reading with an open mind. We had to do that in high school and they called it getting an education!

Decent story but writing style a bit sophomoric and completely predictable.

Since the blurbs don't always alert us to a book being "Xtian" or YA, I appreciate reviewers who point this out. Even in a free book, I'm not interested.

Not a bad book, but strictly formula mystery. Pretty ho-hum. I usually enjoy series books, but probably won't be following this one.

I love romantic suspense - as long as the story moves at a good pace. 'Fatal Judgment' is a near miss. The writing was professional, but there wasn't enough conflict to keep me interested. I started skimming in the 6th chapter - and quit reading after Chapter 9. I did like the fact the hero had brothers and a sister. It was a refreshing change from the 'lone wolf' Alpha. I even liked the fact the characters talked about religion and going to church. That earned 2 stars. However, the story didn't work for me.

Irene Hannon is a new author for me, I down loaded this simply because it was the free Friday book this week and the overview sounded like it would be something I would enjoy. This was a great read I was hooked from the first chapter could not put it down. It was fast passed and kept my interest the entire book. I can't wait to read the second book in The Guardians of Justice Series. I will be recommending her to all my friends. I also look forward to readimg the Quantico Series.

This is an interesting book. The characters are well written, and traverse many backrounds. The good guys all had some type of poor choices in their past, which is true to life. Even the bad guy had some redeaming qualities, which made him more real. The plot is well thought out, though it could have been tweaked to be slightly shorter. I skipped some to get to the better parts in the last 50 or so pages. Mostly my interest was on the page I was reading and not projected into another part of the book. I found this CHRISTIAN SUSPENCE NOVEL quite enjoyable. I appreciate the chance to read a book without having to skip pages of trashy sexual scenes that add nothing pertinant to the plot. I did not feel as though the book was "preachy" in any way. In times of stress real people often turn to their God to bolster their strength. It seems logical that well written stressed book characters would do likewise. I likes that the author reinforced the theme that people change. Sometimes in one direction, sometimes in another. In some places its spelled out, in others it is understood, but it is a theme that was well developed. From my viewpoint the book was a success. It kept my interest. It had believable characters, and was written for an adult audience. The fact there wasn't a lot of sexual content also makes it a good read for adolecents.

Fatal Judgment picks up with the story of U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor. He's been in Iraq on a special mission and now he's returned home to St. Louis. He's felt a need to return to his family since his sister was hurt in an auto accident. Before he can even go home and change he's assigned a new mission-protecting his deceased best friend's wife. The one he felt didn't treat his friend right. Her life is in danger so he will do his job. He finds an attraction growing between them every time something happens to her. I love reading books that take place in my old home town and this one is a fast-page turner. Hannon's characters Jake Taylor and Liz Michaels quickly become real people to readers.

Guardians of Justice Irene Hannon 2011 Revell Fiction/Romantic Suspense Reviewed by Cindy Loven When U.S. Marshall Jake Taylor finds himself assigned to a new case, he is shocked to find out that the federal judge he is assigned to is the widow of his best friend from college. A shooting in Judge Liz Matthews' home has left her sister dead, and the U.S. Marshalls and the FBI wondering if the shooting was a sad case of mistaken identity. Was the real target the Judge? Dealing with the feelings that he has towards the Judge, Jake finds that maybe all the information he had been given about his best friend Doug's wife, might not be all factual, in fact the more he learns of Liz Matthews and observes her, he cannot seem to place that information to what he has been told and what he is seeing first hand. Dealing with his own guilt and grief from his own wife's death four years earlier, Jake recognizes that the feelings he has for Liz is turning into something that he is not sure about, but positive he must explore further. Irene Hannon once again brings us her wonderful talent in the suspense genre. I thought it was a good read and had a nice plot. I think what the character went through is how most of us feel when we lose a loved one. Anyway, the story went along at a good pace and kept my attention. Give it a shot and you might be pleasantly surprised like I was.

I really enjoyed this book and the entire series. I also enjoyed the other books written by this author. The story kept me on the edge of my seat or entertained the entire time. There weren't any slow parts. My only warning is do not start this book at night unless you plan on staying up. There is no good stopping point. The romance that is intertwined throughout the story is based on respect, intellegence, and a common relationship with God. I wasn't made to feel uncomfortable with any inappropriate language or intimacy. I highly recommend this book as a clean romantic suspense.

I really enjoyed this Suspense Romance Novel. The action starts out strong and keeps going throughout the entire story. Each character is strong and well developed. It is clean without sex or language and suspenseful without being gory. The action, romance and religion are well balanced to create a compelling, inspiring story. I would like to read the story that follows.
