Father Mine: Zsadist and Bella's Story: A Black Dagger Brotherhood Novella by J. R. Ward

Ever since the birth of his daughter, Nalla, Zsadist has been regressing further and further into the life he led before he met Bella, his beautiful shellan. He has been waking up in cold sweats due to nightmares from his past, hasn't made love to his wife, and won't hold his baby girl, for fear that he might hurt her. While Nalla's presence had consisted of only joy and excitement in first couple months of her life, now it seems to be driving the couple apart. Bella is afraid that she and Nalla just may need to leave her hellren.

But then Zsadist gets injured on a mission to fight the lessers and because he hasn't been feeding from Bella, almost loses his life. Could this near-death experience create the motivation to pull this couple back together? Or has the gap between them spanned too far for redemption?

For all of us who really enjoy a good vampire but not really interested in the Tween version Twilight Series ( not that I am knocking those stories). The black Dagger Brotherhood is for a more mature audience of Women. No, its not very intellectual, but a good romance does not always have to be Pride and Prejudice. I really enjoyed having a short story on the characters of Bella and Zsadist. To read more on what happened after the birth of their child and the things that Zsadist continued to struggle with. We finally get a good sense that he was able to conquer the ghosts of his past and come to terms with what happened to him. All in all a good read.

This low rating is not for the novella "Father Mine". It is for what is promised and not delivered. I purchased this thinking it was an Insider's Guide for The Black Dagger Brotherhood readers plus the novella about Zsadist and Bella. After I purchased it I found that it was only the novella (Father Mine) which I already had. It did NOT include the Insider's Guide, stats for the Brothers, Interviews with the author, etc. as described in the book's description.

First off Ill say I love the series and am a devout fan of The Black Dagger Brotherhood. Just a quick FYI, you can go to her website and read everything that is in this guide, minus Zadist and Bella's story, for free.

I have enjoyed this entire BDB series. Zsadist and Vishous have been my favorites and so I enjoyed this side story on Zsadist and Bella. Can't wait for book 12. Hope it goes into Blay and Qhuinn..

another great book by J. R. Ward I haven't found a book from her I don't like yet. This short story explains in more detail the struggles Zsadist goes through and how love never fails.

I loved this book. At the time of the reading I had just finished Vishous' and Phury's story and I must admit, I did not think they were as good as the first books. I almost felt cheated. That is until I read this book. It explained a lot of things about those books and I came to understand and finally love them just as much as the first books. This book showed how Ms. Ward wrote these books and how much she loves her warriors. It made me fall in love with the BDB men all over again!

Okay,so I was a little dissapointed when the series ended with "Lover Mine" So this short story about the fiercest Brother and his "Shellan" Bella(called Father Mine) was a GREAT READ. It really brings you closer to those characters, and the book had a bit more realizm in it because we all know being that in love dosent last forever and being married has its Problems! but the book makes you think about your own relationship and when was the last time.....we made love or looked into.eaxh others eyes or bought your spouse something nice jist because. A definate great book for all to read. I just really truley hope "Ward" does at least one more book necause a lot has been n answered or un discussed and I would really love to see ALL the characters in BDB SERIES have their happy ending or at least some ENDING!!!! GREAT JOB ON WHOLE SERIES WARD, You truly are a great and creative writer. I would love to know how you come up with it All? The characters, stories dor eaxh novel, plots, and I gotta say THE NAMES OF YOUR CHARACTERS WERE AMAZING AND I WOULD NAME MY CHILDREN AFTER THEM! Plus I also liked how you put these hard core names with the hard core males mated with these females with the most BASIC INNOCENT NAMES........GENIOUS

I have to admit....everytime I finish reading a book in the BDB series, I am sad. Just when you get to know the brothers, it seems like the story is done. J.R. Ward did an outstanding job telling the story of Z, and his Bella and baby Nalla. I have to say that this family has been through more than the other brothers. The strength that each character has is truly amazing. I am thankful that J.R. Ward wrote about Z, because it helped explain the kind of life Z was subjected to and what he had to overcome to be the man he is now. You definately need to read this book! If you love the BDB series, this is a must read. You will not be dissapointed! I hope there are more books coming. I have read all the BDB books and I am truly a big fan! Intrigued by Romance

Although I do not embrace the frat boy language, the sentence fragments, and the lack of editing in this book, anyone who had read Ward's third BDB series has to pick this one up, too. Ward is a great story teller, and she has managed to tweak the archetypical vampire to create these ones. As I said, her writing is pretty bad, she can't write fight scene to save her life, but her gift is the ability to write a good story.

If you love the BDB series, you will adore this short extension of Z's story (Dance with the Devil). I am a huge fan of the BDB & Z is one of my favorite characters. I've re-read his story several times.

This is DEFINATELY a must read... Z is my favorite brother, the way that he loves Bella is amazing... And the way he acts with Nalla is just precious... This was a great compliment to Lover Awakened... Thanks JR Ward :) I would love to see more about Z and Bella & of course little Nalla... And even more so I would love to see more from the brotherhood... Thanks so much for one of the best series I have ever read....

I am addicted to JR Ward's Brotherhood series and happened to come across this special which simply couldn't be resisted. Z's story with Bella is amazing and their newborn's arrival the dynamics of their relationship change as Z must finally come full circle in dealing with his painful past. Bella is strong, beautiful and a new mother who questions the strength of their union as she deals with her lover's withdrawl and pain. The post partum issues she faces regarding her self image, questioning her new role as mother versus wife and lover, etc show a real sensitivity and new perspective in this series. I am enjoying the whole collection and although just starting on book #3 I did read this not knowing about Z and Bella, etc or the order of things. I loved it and can't stop reading JR Ward's books. The characters are complex and richly drawn, their strengths and vulnerabilities described with a touching attention to their individualities. The whole series rocks and not just for the romance but because the characters are cool, the women strong and independent and of course, sexy as hell.

Zsadist has always been the extremely troubled brother. After his time served as a blood-slave left some very deep emotional and psychological scars. His relationship with Bella has helped to heal some of those scars, but after the birth of their daughter, Nalla, things fall into a quick downward spiral. This isn't a romance so much as it is a reconnecting of souls. Bella will have to prove once again that Zsadist isn't the monster he believes himself to be. It's a touching story and a nice look deeper into their relationship. It was a sweet story of redemption and second chances, of leaning on those you love and allowing them to help you.
