Here is what can happen in the midst of a huge company wide crossover: a great idea can morph into an illogical mish mash of what could’ve been. The overall theme in this book is what happens in Europe during the Flashpoint event, the crux being the trial and tribulations of the nations of Atlantis and Themyscira. We get some really good issues involving the entanglement between the two royal families. Unfortunately due to the logistics of the books release schedule it’s a strangely paced book that is given no time to flesh itself out. Add to that the Lois Lane “freedom fighter” book and you have a strange package. Not to mention huge things being omitted like why all of a sudden women heroes flooded into Europe to hang out with Wonder Woman without explanation. DC also added a throw away series called the Outsider, which was just James Robinson playing in an alternate DC timeline and being himself, which is a little weird and usually boring. The art, as expected is good and bad but doesn’t stand out. Overall the book doesn’t live up to its fantastic premise.
