Forever Wild is a collection of various poems, drawings, and other forms of art and activism that aims to be an ambitious and collaborative project celebrating the importance of nature, the environment, and the Ashley Schiff Preserve, located in Stony Brook University. This compilation also serves as a call to action to promote environmental justice and the preservation of nature.
The 26-acre nature preserve was dedicated in the memory of political science Professor Ashley Schiff (1932-1969); he was an early conservationist & expert on the politics of forest management, and his death shocked the young Stony Brook community. Stony Brook students organized to establish a forever-wild nature preserve within the campus. The preserve also serves as a 'living lab' for many students and professors at the university.
As of 2023, the Ashley Schiff Preserve has yet to gain legal protection. The various works in these pages were created by Stony Brook students, especially for Stony Brook students, in unity for environmental conservation and continued advocacy for the legal protection of the preserve and to one day keep it Forever Wild.
The Editors would like to personally thank the following contributors for all their hard work: Silas Baluja, Mia' Lyn Bonventre, India Carranza, Alex Casamassima, Emily Chao, Minal Chawla, Danielle Correia.
