Herbal remedies have been used in chicken keeping for generations, if not centuries. The methods described in this book are all time-tested and  considered 'old timer's methods, if not common knowledge. The health benefits of herbs are certainly well-documented in people and in animals and my book uses that information and applies it to chicken keeping. Herbal remedies have been around probably nearly as long as humans have been and can't be credited to any one source or any one person. If you want to learn how to raise your chickens naturally, this book will take you through all aspects of chicken keeping and show you how to incorporate weeds, herbs and edible flowers into your chicken keeping.

Lisa Steele has written a book that gives some good information on keeping a flock of chickens. She doesn't preach or go over your head but writes as if she is talking to you as a friend. I wish I had this book before I got my flock. If you are thinking or already have a flock of chickens I highly recommend this book.

What a fabulous book about keeping chickens the natural way. The author touches on every aspect individually and where they overlap, providing a list of pertinent herbs at the end of each chapter. The included recipes for everything mentioned are wonderful inclusions. At the end of the book is an appendix listing all the good and bad herbs and natural supplements for your chickens. There's even a list of the herbs and what they are good for. And the photos are delightful, as well. The natural method of keeping chickens as explained by Lisa Steele is easy and inexpensive, and also a great way to add flavor and variety to your own garden and table. I can't wait to apply these methods when starting my own backyard flock.
