I love this author and her characters. I went back to the first scrapbooking mystery to start at the beginning. These are great rainy-day books and a cheery escape from reality. Not too heavy, delightful ladies day stories.

Laura Childs gives you more than just a mystery novel. As you follow Carmella Bertrand, scrapbook shop owner, and her involvment in the murder of a model you are fed scraps of New Orleans history as well as excellant ideas for those who love to scrap. Carmella has an instinctual curiousity that keeps her in the game of helping to solve the murder that has touched her life and livelihood in this great southern city. The characters who come in and out of her life and those she associates with on a regular basis are colorful and interesting. The scrapbook series is just right for those of us who love to put our skills as scrapbookers to use in new and unique ways. The tips and recipes in the back are a wonderful bonus and very user friendly.

Carmela runs a scrapbooking store, Memory Mine, in the French quarter of New Orleans. Her best friend, Ava, has a Halloween party at her voodoo shop, Juju Voodoo. Her new employee Giovanni is a sexy tarot card reader and brings in the crowds.

When Carmela is knocked unconscious and Amber's dead body is found near her in the alley near Ava's shop, Giovanni becomes the prime suspect. Ava and Carmela believe him to be innocent so they set out to try to locate the real killer without putting themselves in further danger.

I really enjoy this series. Ava and Carmela are such fun. I enjoy all the descriptions of the scrapbooking as well as the ambiance of New Orleans. It's a place I'd like to visit someday, so I enjoy reading mysteries set there.

This series is a great cozy mystery series that is easy to read and well plotted out. I highly recommend this book and series.

It is days before Halloween with post-Katrina New Orleans getting into the spirit of the holiday hoping to revive lagging morale and bring in some much needed revenue. Carmela Bertrand, the owner of the scrapbook store Memory Mine in the French Quarter, is visiting her friend Ava Grieux, owner of the Jujo Voodoo Shop, and is impressed with her newest employee Giovanni, a sexy charismatic man who tells fortunes.------------------ After she leaves the store she goes across Ava¿s alley on the way home she is pushed from behind, sees a flying white dove with blood on his wings and finds the dead body of Amber Lalique, the lead fashion model of Chadron who is giving a show this week. The police find Carmela knocked out on the corpse whose throat is missing. Suspicion first falls on Giovanni and later his brother Santini who didn¿t hide his anger with his breakup with Amber very well. Carmella investigates at Ava¿s request because she wants to know if Giovanni or Santini are killers. Both women are curious about the killing and start nosing around but as usual Carmella finds herself in danger from a killer who has no mercy.--------------------------- Laura Child gives readers an interesting glimpse of post Katrina New Orleans as the city tries to make a revival with many people pulling together to make their Big Easy as glorious as it once was, but more inclusive. Carmella is a delightful lead character who finds herself in unusual predicaments as she tries to track a killer while trying to keep her soon to be ex-husband from her. She leads an interesting life full of action, adventure and danger without coming across as a hero. Laura Childs keeps readers interested as they become absorbed in the fascinating storyline.-------------- Harriet Klausner
