Overview

When B. J. Clark, the young and pretty manager of the Lakeside Inn, met the new owner, Taylor Reynolds, she was fully prepared to dislike him. For she feared – with good reason –that he planned to transform her sleepy old hotel into a resort for jet-setters.

That sparks should fly between them was inevitable. But that these should be fanned by a mutual passion was no in her plans. Against all reason B.J. found herself torn between her professional antagonism and her growing attraction to the man she had sworn to despise.

As a huge Nora Roberts fan, this was a big let down. The interactions of the main characters left me aggravated and at times lost. In defense, this book was written in the early 80's when the man/woman relationship was portrayed differently than it is now.

This book was written in 1983, though recorded for audio listening in 2009. Now I know why, as a young person in the early 1980's, there existed an obsession to be simultaneously "taken seriously" by men and wanting to be "dominated" by them. So naive on both accounts when looking backwards. THANKfully, I have extricated myself from such notions.
Having said that, this book serves as a great reminder as to how so many of us out there achieved in one arena, only to suffer in the other. I wanted to turn off this book many times, but I needed something in the background to listen to while doing work on my P.C. It truly is painful to listen to such malarkey. Don't blame Ms. Roberts for having written this almost 30 yrs ago - blame publishers for thinking an '80's book can still strike a cord in 2012. It was a sign of the times, and really should not be revived.
NOTE: The star is for the reader whose performance was as multi-faceted as the material could lend her.

This was my first Nora Robert's bok and it was very boring. I'll read another boo by her and see if I'll read anymore of her novels.
