About the Author

Steve Umstead has been the owner of a Caribbean & Mexico travel company for the past ten years, but never forgot his lifelong dream of becoming an author. After a successful stab at National Novel Writing Month, he decided to pursue his dream more vigorously…but hasn’t given up the traveling.

Steve lives in scenic (tongue-in-cheek) New Jersey with his wife, two kids, and several bookshelves full of other authors’ science fiction novels. Gabriel’s Redemption was his debut novel, published in February of 2011; Gabriel’s Return, the second in the trilogy, launched in August; the finale, Gabriel’s Revenge, book 3, hit the virtual shelves in December.

I really enjoy a character driven story. Steve Umstead delivers one. As a teenager, I read Heinlein, Asimov, Clark, Bradbury and the reason I read them all was character. 40 years later, I still prefer a "character" driven story. I hope to read more by Umstead and maybe some more about Gabriel? I enjoyed all 3 books and look forward to more.

Not the typical military scifi I read but really enjoyed the detailed and original story and recommend it to any who enjoy the genre. The books focus more on the setting and characters than the specific science which makes for an imersive fast moving story.

Great end to the trilogy. The balance between space action and surface action was perfect. A quick fun read.

Evan Gabriel has foiled the SARs plans yet again but they have something he wants very badly and will do anything to get: Renay. Rescuing her will take all of his skills and the help of his loyal team. But the SAR will stop at nothing to control Mars and to get rid of the thorn in their side. But this particular thorn has no intention of giving up. And he comes packing some serious heat. Through tragedy and triumph, Umstead weaves this tale of a man who is sick of death. But to save the woman he loves, he will have to visit his old friend once again. I am sad to see the end of this trilogy, and yet couldn't put it down in order to savoy every last word and draw out the enjoyment as long as possible. I doubt I'm the only one who thinks this trilogy will look mighty good on the big screen. Hat's off to Umstead for finishing up this amazing trilogy with a bang! I look forward to more from this author!

I've read all three books of the Gabriel's series and enjoyed each one. Albeit the books do not go heavy into details on the technical aspects of the time period, dives deep into the characters. They were a good, easy and enjoyable read. I would definitely read other books by this author.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was engaging and the science was very interesting. I felt like most of what he wrote about could happen and that is science fiction at it's best.

This three-book series was a wonderful adventure in space. The characters are ordinary, likable, people thrust into extraordinary circumstances. The "tech" seems believable and is easy to understand. The author does a wonderful job of explaining the "gear" without going into boring detail. Fast paced action. I highly recommend this collection to sci-fi buffs and Ialso think war story enthusiasts would enjoy this, too.

Quick reading space marine series. No really imaginative elements with regards to plot, alien worlds, characters, or technology. Given the dearth of really good current science fiction, this is entertaining.

I enjoyed the trilogy from beginning to end, This was an action packed series of stories about well trained soldiers with high tech gear and enhanced mental communicators, lots of well thought out battle plans with a plot line strong enough to warrant the intesity of the fight scenes,
