About the Author

Will Hahn has been in love with heroic tales since age four, when his father read him the Lays of Ancient Rome and the Tales of King Arthur. He taught Ancient-Medieval History for years, but the line between this world and others has always been thin. Will has written about the Lands of Hope since his college days which by now are also part of ancient history).

Tolkienesque may be the best way to describe this novella which opens up William L. Hahn’s Judgement’s Tale saga. From the opening pages (a touching scene of a boy burying his father) this novella paints a rich tapestry of a world precariously perched on the blade’s edge between an era of peace and one of approaching calamity. The characters are vibrant individuals trying to come to grips with the changing times, yet none are more intriguing then the boy in the opening chapter. Solemn Judgement is a stranger in the Lands of Hope, but I’m guessing he’s going to be key to their survival in the coming crisis. In addition to his strong characterizations, Hahn’s greatest strength is his flair for dramatic dialogue, which moves his story along with deft strokes that had me longing for the next conversation. Be warned that this story truly is also Tolkien-like in that it ends without resolving any of its storylines, but as the next parts of the tale have already been published, this isn’t a problem.

Reviewed by Chris Fischer for Readers' Favorite Wow. Just wow. I just finished reading Games of Chance, Book One in the Judgement’s Tale Series by author William L. Hahn. In an excellent new entry into the fantasy genre, we find a new hero, the enigmatic Solemn Judgement. When he lands on the western edge of the Lands of Hope, he finds a world in chaos. Previously protected by the work of its Heroes, the Lands are now dealing with their absence, and are certainly not faring well without them. The Children of Home, along with Solemn Judgement whom they call the Man in Grey, must learn to play the games required to save their lives and the very existence of the Lands of Hope. They must play the Games of Chance. Fantastic. This book was simply a fantastic read in what I hope will be the start of a great new series. William L. Hahn’s world creation skills are second to none, and the descriptions of the Lands of Hope are detailed and wonderful. Games of Chance is an exciting action adventure set in a fantastic environment and left me incredibly eager to read more. This book will appeal to any lover of fantasy, of great new heroes, or just a plain great read. I am very pleased to highly recommend Games of Chance: Book One in the Judgement’s Tale Series by author William L. Hahn. I am very much looking forward to the next installment in this incredibly promising new line.

Games of Chance introduces readers to a fascinating fantasy world, where chaos is about to change everything. Solemn Justice, a young wizard, joins a band of gypsies after his father's death, before finding himself on the wrong side of the law with his fate in the hands of a scholar elf; a group of explorers seek adventure and find monsters instead, a King reluctantly allows his son to become ambassador to their enemies. All lead up to what very well may be the fight of their lives. With nothing less than hope as the spoils of war. In Games of Chance, William L. Hahn has penned an exciting tale of magic, myth, and mayhem perfect for fans of Tolkien and Game of Thrones. Do check it out!
