What a great start to the series! The author creates such a natural friendship and banter between the two main characters, a dog and teenage boy, that it's easy to picture dogs as equal parts of this future society. The illustrations flow well within the text, making for a quick read. I particularly enjoyed the mix of action and mystery; you get to follow along with the main character as he starts to discover what events led to an barren Earth. The perspective of integrating dogs into society in more formal roles, using language and tools, is a neat twist on man's best friend that allows Frank the dog to guide the teen throughout the adventure.
