An unexpected fresh start leads to an unlikely-but-absolutely-perfect pairing in this male/male new-adult novel from bestselling gay romance author K.A. Mitchell

Ethan may have followed his high school sweetheart to college only to get dumped his first day there, but he's not going to let that stop him from exploring all his new life has to offer. Sex-only hookups, his photography, new friends and a campus-wide game of zombies vs humans all help keep his mind off his broken heart and move him toward building a new, better life without his ex.

And then there's Wyatt. Mysterious, grouchy—hot. And possibly not gay. But Ethan's not going to let that stand in the way of figuring out what makes Wyatt tick. New college goal? Get Wyatt into bed and into Ethan's life.

Step one: arrange a "tutoring" date. Step two: "accidentally" bump into Wyatt as often as possible. Step three: explore the sexy body under that ever-present hoodie. And when their friendship deepens into something neither of them expect, convince Wyatt he's not just a pity fling or a one-time hookup, but that Ethan is in it for the long haul.

About the Author

At a very early age, K.A. Mitchell decided that Ken and G.I. Joe made a much cuter couple than Ken and Barbie and was perplexed when invitations to play Barbie fell off sharply. Today she still loves hanging out with imaginary friends and making up stories. Even better, people pay her to read about them. Now the author of over twenty-five gay romances, she guarantees happy endings for even the surliest of heroes, despite all their baggage.

This story is HOT and full of young love! Getting Him Back is the first NA (new adult) story I’ve read from K.A. Mitchell and it was a good one. Before I started reading this one I already knew that there was a second book about Ethan and Wyatt so I wasn’t sure whether or not to expect a cliffhanger from this book. For my money, I wouldn’t call this one a cliffhanger, rather more of a HFN (happy for now) story. Ethan has followed his boyfriend Blake to college instead of attending the school his parents would have preferred. We already know from the book blurb that Ethan ends up with someone else so I’m not giving away anything when I say that things didn’t work out the way he planned. What Ethan didn’t plan on is being attracted to someone else while he is nursing his broken heart. Wyatt is a quiet guy and a bit mysterious. He always seems to be hiding behind his hoodie and the bangs that he lets flop over his face. Ethan is definitely intrigued and wants to solve the puzzle that is Wyatt. I thought this was a great story and boy was it HOT! Lots of exploration going on, sexual and otherwise, as Ethan settles into college life – even though it’s not the life he’d planned to have with Blake. There is definitely some serious chemistry between Ethan and Wyatt. I found this novella to be a real page turner. I was almost glad that it was a shorter story because I couldn’t wait to finish it; especially since I knew that the next book was already out. Ms. Mitchell has a way of describing college life that kept me very interested even though I’m waaay past the typical age of a college student. This story is told from Ethan’s point of view (POV) and I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying that the next one is told from Wyatt’s POV.

*** Copy provided to the reviewer via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. *** Ethan followed his boyfriend Blake to Coborn College only to be dumped on the first day he got there, determined to get Blake back, he hires Wyatt, Blake’s roommate to be his Calculus tutor, only to find himself attracted to Wyatt and completely confused by his feelings for both Wyatt and Blake. As Wyatt and Ethan get closer, Blake realizes he might have made a mistake letting Ethan go. I wasn’t too sure about Ethan at first, although he won me over in the end. He was a bit self-absorbed, but not selfish, and I just loved the way he treated Wyatt, even after Blake’s revelation. Wyatt was all mysterious and prickly, but I guess between his disease and what happened to him when he was younger, it wasn’t too difficult to understand his behavior. I really liked them together, Ethan was sweet to Wyatt and they had great chemistry. I loved that Ethan just couldn’t resist the pull towards Wyatt even when he was feeling confused over Blake. I hated Blake from the start, and I wish we’d had more of a resolution with him. Makayla and the rest of Ethan’s friends were awesome, and they added more depth to the story. This was a very nice start to the series, with a solid HFN, despite leaving some unresolved issues that I hope will be resolved in the next installment(s). Recommendable! Rating: 4 Stars!!!

What could be more disastrous than following your high school boyfriend to college only to have him tell you he no longer loves you. Depressing and sets you up for a crash, right? This is what happens to Ethan and he schemes to get his boyfriend Blake back. Until he meets Blake’s roommate Wyatt. At first Ethan tries to use Wyatt to spy on Blake but as time goes by he falls for Wyatt instead. Ethan, whose POV carries this story, begins thinking less and less about Blake and more and more about Wyatt. But can he get Wyatt to feel the same way? Wyatt, whose POV we never quite capture, is a loner and a kind of shadowy character. Wyatt is not fitting in entirely into the college scene but the reasons for that are not clear initially. Part of Ethan’s small coterie of friends are Makayla and Conner, who are good enough friends to Ethan to let him know when he’s off track. This is clearly a character-driven story and boy do these characters drive it. I loved them very much and was rooting for Ethan and Wyatt from the first time they met. The sex is hot and the men are hotter. This is a long novella or a short novel and the timeline for relationship building seemed a bit compressed. Even so, I enjoyed the story very much.

This is my first book by KA Mitchell and I didn't know what to expect, I had read some really great things about he books so I was ready to find out for myself. The story grabs you from the get go, right away I felt connected to the characters, it was so easy to fall into the story, to read about their troubles and their successes. We start the book with a heart broken Ethan, who just arrived at his first year of college, one he picked because of his boyfriend, but oh surprise! On his first day his boyfriend dumps him! So we have Ethan sort of trying to find his place in this new life, finding friends and getting involved in the school and finally meeting someone new. Wyatt is our other main character, he is kind of a mystery but soon Ethan manages to get him to open up bit by bit. I liked how the relationship between this two was at times kind of aggressive and raw but at others very sweet and the underlined feelings was always of acceptance. The story moves along very fast, as I said the characters hook you immediately, they are lovable and intriguing and the writing is magnificent. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in their story.
