Ghostly Liaison by Stacy McKitrick

Avoiding love is hard. Catching a killer can be fatal...

When Rob's sister passed away, she left him her dog and her house. He can handle the dog part, but he doesn't need another home. Especially a fixer-upper the neighbor swears is haunted. Then he meets Bridget, who's working on getting her life back together after a car accident left her scarred in more ways than one. She can't pass up Rob's offer of free lodging, regardless of the shape it's in. Or the roommate that's part of the package. She's never believed in ghosts, but now she's living with one who wants Bridget's help in catching a killer. There's only one problem: the killer has unfinished business. . .

Kind of a weird book, but also kind of enjoyable. Bridget's repeated self loathing, blame, guilt and holding everyone at arms length got boring after the first 10 times it was described in the book. That constant was over done and could've def been left out.

I would prefer more ghostly and less romantic.

Rushed and cheesy, lacks propper character development. If you want a good paranormal romance read "love and Decay" by Rachel Higginson.

For a ghost story, this was rather sweet.  I enjoyed it. We begin with Bridget sneaking out of her parent’s house, afraid to wake her mother, and getting ready to ride her bike somewhere – in the rain.  I wondered about this.  I was expecting to read a ghost story or mystery.  Why are we dealing with a delinquent sneaking out of her parent’s house? It just didn’t seem right.   Then I find out this is a 30 year old woman who has been recovering from a serious auto accident.  This is her first day at a new job and she desperately wants to reassert her independence.    Being an only child, mom is a bit overprotective.  Okay, she is a helicopter mom and doesn’t think Bridget is ready to be on her own.  No wonder Bridget is sneaking out.  I think I would too. So, when an offer to house sit a fixer-upper just around the corner from the new job presents itself, who wouldn’t jump on it?  Even if it includes a rather unexpected house mate.  Bridget thought she had been going crazy.  As it turns out, she just sees ghosts.  She can almost deal with that.   So begins a wonderfully fun and entertaining story.  I mostly liked Bridget.  She was strong with an independent streak a mile wide. She was also cautious.  She liked to think things to death before acting.  A few times her cautiousness and tendency to take extended guilt trips were just plain irritating.  Like Charlie, the ghostly house mate, I sometimes wanted to yell at her or shove her into the moment.  But once she had her mind made up and decided to take action, nothing deterred her.  A rather interesting character.   Now Rob – Charlie’s brother – he was sometimes too good to be true.  He owned a construction company inherited from his father so he was rather handy to have around.  Rob was hot, nice, loved dogs, and just an all-round good guy.   Like I said, almost too good to be true.  However, he was an action type of guy, not very good at the office work.  It was very obvious to me rather early on in the story that he was being taken advantage of.  He sensed something wasn’t right, but didn’t know enough about the inner workings of the company to pinpoint what.   Charlie – the irritating little sister and house mate.  Yes she is one of the main characters.  Okay, so she is also a ghost.  Doesn’t meant she isn’t important to the story.  In fact, one might say she is the main character of the story.  If not for her, there would be no story.  It is all about how and why she died.  It isn’t what Rob thinks it was just because she used to have a drug problem.  Enter, the mystery and action.   This turned out to be a rather action packed adventure.  Several heart-stopping moments, some near misses, a couple trips to the vet, a couple trips to the hospital, unexpected ghosts who aren’t totally friendly, and a little romance thrown in for spice.  I liked how this ended.  Although all the threads were tied up for this story, there was an opening for more.  Since this indicates a book one, I will look forward to another “ghostly encounter.”  This was fun.    I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is not acliffhanger! It was a story of a man who loved his sister and a woman who was an only child. It was a story of a man who had flaws and a woman who was lost. It was a story of ghosts and love. I enjoyed the quirks of the story and the lovers who won.

Very cute story. Loved the suspense and the characters were great. It's nice to read about a hunky guy that cries over a hurt dog. That's my kind of man!
