Going Gentle Into That Good Night: A Practical and Informative Guide to Fulfilling the Circle of Life For Our Loved Ones with Dementias & Alzheimer's Disease
This book is written to give practical and real-world help to those us responsible for the care of loved ones with dementias and Alzheimer's Disease. It's not like all those other books. Believe me, I found most of them to be a waste of my time because they were not hands-on and accessible and they didn't tell me the stuff I really needed to know and had to learn on my own.

If you want a lot of theory, this is not the book for you.

If you want to read one more book that talks about dementias and Alzheimer's Disease from a high-level and clinical standpoint, this book is not for you.

But if you want succinct and practical experience and advice from somebody who's walked your shoes as when I cared for my mom, this book is for you.

I wish there had been one like it when I was starting that journey. Fortunately, thanks to Mom's journey, I have a chance to pass what I learned on. This is part of paying it forward.

About the Author

Biography
I ended up being a book author without setting out to be one. I have been a writer, however, all my life, so maybe this was just the next step.

The first book I wrote, Fields of Gold: A Love Story began as a project to preserve my parents' story and our family's story, and turned into a memoir of our lives that chronicles the good times and bad times, the ups and downs, and the miracles - and there were - many of our lives together.

Embedded in this memoir is a rich history of Appalachia and northeast Tennessee (Johnson City, Jonesborough, Erwin, Flag Pond, Limestone, and Telford among others) and North Carolina (beginning in Alamance County and traveling throughout the state from the mountains to the coast) during the 20th century.

And also included is the last journey of this life that Mama and I took together through congestive heart failure, vascular dementia, Lewy Body dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease.

Going Gentle Into That Good Night is a big-picture, practical, and hand's-on guide for caregivers of loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. It is the result of what I learned on this journey with Mama. There was no book like it and I saw an opportunity to give caregivers something that was actually useful and helpful as they walk through the same journeys with their loved ones.

I created and update a companion blog, Going Gentle Into That Good Night , to continue to provide this practical and in-the-moment information about specific topics to caregivers.

Building Trust and Being Trustworthy is an outgrowth of the topics I discuss on my The Quintessential Leader blog.

While these components I list in the book apply to leaders, they also apply to everybody else. All of us should strive to build trust and be trustworthy everywhere in our lives. This is really a foundation that all our lives should be built on.

Qualities of Quintessential Leaders is a "this-is-what-it-looks-like-in-action" description of some of the qualities that quintessential leaders have.
