Mary Ruth Furr was born in Nashville, Tennessee. Her mother died when Mary Ruth was 4 years old. Her father remarried and the family moued to Pegram, Tennessee about 18 miles from Nashuille. She attended Dauid Lipscomb from the 7th grade until she graduated from Lipscomb University with a BS degree in Education.
