Overview

Going the Distance by Julianna Keyes

Olivia Clarke’s fall from pretty, perfect, and popular happened in an instant. With her life in tatters, she impulsively accepts a teaching job in the small city of Lazhou, China. Three months in, she’s ready to admit she made a huge mistake. She doesn't speak Mandarin, the teachers at her school refuse to include her in anything, and she spends her nights watching counterfeit DVDs in her twin bed. Alone.

Jarek McLean is a loner. He’s not looking for friends, and he’s definitely not looking for love. The former army interrogator now works as a carpenter for a small construction company rebuilding a travel office in Lazhou. When he meets Olivia he knows immediately she’s too wholesome to be his type, but when he discovers the pretty kindergarten teacher is hiding a secret, his inquisitive side rears its nosy head and demands answers.

Olivia isn't interested in a one-sided interrogation, and makes her position clear: if Jarek wants to ask questions, he’ll have to answer some, too. Jarek’s never let anyone in—not into his apartment, not into his life, certainly not into his heart. But the closer he gets to Olivia, the more he falls for her, and suddenly the man who doesn't do relationships finds himself in a most unexpected one. When he reluctantly admits that this could be love, he’s faced with the most terrifying question of all: What the hell does he do now?

I read a lot of books; however, I rarely write a review. This book was terrific; I finished it in one day. I won't rewrite the synopsis, but I do encourage you to take a chance on this relatively new author. This is one of the best books I have read thus far in 2015, and I don't think you will be disappointed. There is no cliffhanger and there is a HEA. I would like to read more about what the future has in store for this couple, though I don't think that it merits another novel. Maybe a novella or even better an epilogue that Ms. Keyes publishes on her website?

I really liked both main characters. The dialog was real and at times very humorous. The interaction with her students was also very real and down to earth. I will definitely read other books by this author.

Setting is great - rich descriptions that place you there but not overdone. Jarek's slow fall for Olivia was nicely paced. Ending was emotionally wrenching and yet satisfying - epilogue would have been great but not really needed.

OMG !!! YUMMY --FANTASTIC --TERRIFIC WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN MEL AND ALEX ?? A MUST READ !!! Mousiey has a TERRIFIC books for you today. The name of this book is GOING THE DISTANCE. Is by none other than JULIANNA KEYES.  I rec'd an ARC of this FANTASTIC -TERRIFIC-ROMANTIC -EROTIC AND THE FACT THAT I COULD NOT PUT DOWN - from the author. In exchange for an honest opinion. This is mousieys very honest opinion of her book. Once I started reading "GOING THE DISTANCE" - I found myself so captivated  with this Alex and Mel that I had to keep reading it until the end.  It left me wanting more of the story of Alex and Melody. Ms Keyes has a style so unique thats she brings her characters  like right before your eyes. As for her scenes - they are so amazing you feel as though you are right there in China. I am so looking forward to reading more books from Ms Keyes. And I do hope that this story continues into another book.  Going the Distance is about Mel and Alex both are living in China. Mel is a kindergarten teacher- Alex is a carpenter. Alex has been told about Mel from his friends. He decides to go to the gym an see for himself. When he gets there - he sees Mel and wants her real bad! He walks over to the treadmill and introduces himself to her.Alex ask her to run with him the next night except it will be outside not in the gym. Mel agrees.  Before long they start having sex. Then Alex finds out something from Mel's past and it makes Mel mad. Alex won't tell her anything about himself. Can they get over their problem and get together? What will happen to Alex and Mel?? Do they decide to go back to the states?? For these answers you need to get this TERRIFIC book.  I recommend it foreveryone especially those that love romance.. Mousiey gives it 45 out of 5 stars.
