Overview

King Grim Vasteri is the strongest and most feared warrior in the Tornian Empire. He is the King of Luda, blood brother to the Emperor and his line will die with him. He will have no offspring for no female would Join with him, for once he was scarred he was considered 'unfit'. The Tornian Empire has been dying ever since the great infection caused the birth of females to become a rarity. Since then they have been searching the known universes, for compatible females. The Emperor's discovery of a compatible female on a slave ship changed that. He has ordered Grim to find his Empress' home world so more 'unprotected' females could be obtained, knowing Grim would never be allowed to Join with one.

Lisa Miller is a widowed mother of two little girls, Carly and Miki. Her husband died just a year ago, after a long battle with cancer and she misses him immensely. Friends want her to start dating again, but in her heart, she knows there isn't a man on the planet she could love like her Mark and who could love their girls as their own. Therefore, she'll stay alone.

When Lisa is discovered 'unprotected' at her husband's grave site, she wakes on an alien ship heading for an alien world. Refusing to accept this she confronts the large alien males, demanding she be returned to her children. Seeing his chance to have a female, Grim agrees to accept and protect her offspring if she agrees to Join with him and only him. Realizing this is the only way she can retrieve her children, Lisa agrees and the Tornian Empire changes forever.

Grim 4.4 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 76 reviews.

I gave Five stars because this story was good enough to make me want to work through all of the errors, which are numerous. I also saw on kindle there is already a 1.5 book a Grim Holiday the editing for that was wonderful in comparison.

A review from Feb 25, 2015 says that the editing was corrected by the author and to archive and unarchive this book to reap the benefit. I'm not sure it works since I bought this a year later and should have received the corrected version, right? NOT!!! How in the world can you have tense changes within a sentence? Many many times! AAUGH! That said, the story was captivating (pun intended...) and although the grammatical errors were hugely jarring at first, I was able to "see" past them as I read on. Kind of like your nose getting used to a bad smell. Despite its grammatical shortcomings this story is worth the read (especially for S.E. Smith fans as stated by another reviewer), and I've already purchased the prequel, "Wray". Just to be on the safe side, though, I've archived and unarchived it. Hey, It can't hurt, right? This is the second book by this author that I've read and will eventually read them all. Enjoy! ***Smiles and waves goodby***

The author has edited this story and has reissued it. It was good before, but it is great now. She has added dialog and expained scenes. If you have already purchased this story, you can get the newer version by archiving the book then unarchiving it.

I agree with the other reviewer, about the way the writer spoke.... but i got used to it and actually realy liked the story. This would be a great series, if the author decided to right them. I would strongley sugest an editor and spell check. But even with my negative coments, I would still reccomend the book because the story like was great.

Present tense was a little strange but worth every penny

The series was ok. Needs more editing on the tenses and was a bit dry on humor. Was more sappy romantic that sci-fy romantic. The men were teddy bears and the women were passive aggressive on a worrior planet. The series is out of order and gave me a back and forth feeling. Read at your own risk and look forward to more by this author. Looking forward to Ull's and Callyn's stories soon if the author continues to write more in this series.

I read the preview and was hooked from page one! Wonderful love story! However the grammatical errors through the book book drive me nuts! Still this one was well worth it! Looking forward to the next in the series and praying the editor for the rest of the series did a better job!

Excellent read!  Loved it, and really look forward to more of this series.  Great world building, not tedious detail but enough to set your imagination soaring!  And did I mention HOT?!!  So good you are willing to overlook the serious need for editing/proofreading, frustrating to read with the tense changes, etc.  but otherwise really enjoyable storyline.

Really, really enjoyed this book. The other reviewers were correct about the strange present tense and other errors, but after a few pages the characters and strong story overcame the negatives for me. This book was worth every penny and I highly recommend it! I went ahead and purchased the other books in this series and is happy to report that they are much better edited. This is now one of my favorite authors and I am looking forward to what's to come.

Jagkaren. Really good, great story line. 297 pages. I agree, it needs proof reading. Heck, it wouldn't take much to get someone to check for errors before publishing.

I fell as though I'm beating a dead horse by saying the author desperately needs a good beta reader and editor. (Did you get what I did here? Fell instead of feel. THIS is what I'm talking about peoples!) Unfortunately the book was sprinkled with incorrect word usage and bad grammar. The fact that it was written in the present tense also pulled me from the storyline several times. As to the storyline itself...I'll admit to rolling my eyes a couple of times at the beginning with how quickly Lisa falls for Grim. HOWEVER, I have to say that even with everything else pulling me away from the story (bad grammar, present tense, etc.), I was completely engrossed in the story and had a hard time putting it down. The world-building was complete and the characters were fleshed out. If you'll pardon the pun. Grim and Lisa were extremely likable and I was pulled in by several secondary characters as well. I gave this story 3 stars strictly for the story itself. The storyline pulls the technicalities of writing from a 1 star. I sincerely hope the author takes this as the positive criticism it is meant to be. I would hate to see an undeniably talented author suffer a lack of success due to minor issues.

I read this and quickly bought all the remaining stories. I was not disappointed and will say the writing improves. I'm waiting for Ull's story and will grab it as soon as it is published.
