Being kind, being patient, being quiet- there are so many picture books about good and bad behavior. But what about being grumpy? This funny story about a blue bird in sneakers who wakes up on the wrong side of the bed is great to read with your little one. Each of the animals Bird encounters on his grumpy walk has a unique personality, giving the storyteller an opportunity to get creative. Bird's responses positively drip sarcasm, which help make the experience of reading this story out loud for the hundreth time as enjoyable as that of the first. Trust me- you'll be asked to read this book again and again. The payoff? Bird learns that if you give it a chance, Fun can beat out feeling Grumpy. This book might not teach a huge lesson, but it deals with a common childhood (and adult) issue and reminds us how to deal with it properly. Listen to those around you and get happy!

A bird wakes up one morning feeling grumpy; too grumpy to do anything except walk. On his walk his friends ask him what he is doing and he replies "walking". They follow him and copy him until eventually he finds himself having fun and is no longer grumpy. Genre: FictionAge(s): 4-7

One of my favourite books. It was interesting to hear the different predictions, insights and connections by children from age 4 to 12.

Funky illustrations and great journey but it would have been more fun if Grumpy Bird didn't easily forget about being grumpy.

This is a great read aloud, I like to use different bad accents for the animals, and it is fun to be so very grumpy.

Great book for toddler to 2nd grade groups. The large clean illustrations go well with small to extremely large groups and invite audience participation when read aloud.

Bird gets crabby that everyone is asking him questions. Soon, the other animals start to follow him and he think's is fun. He forgets about being mad.

Cute book.Excellent illustrations. I got ths book for my sister, who is a Second Grade teacher. She read it to her class . They loved it. I also read it. The story is about a bird who wakes up grumpy. Instead of flying he takes a walk. On his walk he encounters a number of animals and his mood starts to change.

Very cute book. Grumpy Bird is having a bad day and while he is walking (not wanting to fly because he is so grumpy) his friends start to follow him. They stop when he stops, jump when he jumps, and so on. Grumpy bird forgets he is having a bad day because he is having so much fun with his friends. I think would be great to read for kids to see that it is okay to be grumpy/sad some days, we all have a bad day now and again. Great illustrations. Multicultural.

Bird wakes up grumpy, too grumpy to even fly. He walks along snapping at all the other animals who talk to him, who ignore his grumpiness and follow him anyway -- eventually breaking his gloomy mood. Bird's pinched grumpy face and the surreal animals are perfect. Fun, fun, fun.
