It's a tale as timeless as storytelling itself: two children, lost in the woods, stumble upon a candy house that isn't all that it seems. From Hansel's trail of bread crumbs to Gretel's ingenious triumph over the witch, the details of this familiar fairy tale enchant children year after year. Now, in an update on her classic retelling, Caldecott Honor winner and New York Times bestseller Susan Jeffers brings Hansel and Gretel to life for a new generation.

Susan Jeffers has given to the children of today another book to treasure in this beautiful recreation of the old favorite folk tale of two children who outsmart the witch who has planned to eat them. Highly recommended both for reading aloud and reading independently when the child is able to do so.
For many years, I have collected Susan Jeffers books. I am now sharing them with my 2yr. old grandson hoping he will appreciate her illustrations and storytelling as much as I do. I have quite a collection.
